Introduction: Suicidal ideation is the behavior of the individual linked to irrational thoughts about the life. At present, it is considered as the first step towards suicidal behavior and is mostly associated with teenagers. Method: 251 students between 12 and 18 years old participated (ME = 14.73, SD = 1.57) which responded the Paykel Suicide Scale (PSS) and sociodemographic data. Results: Factor analysis was performed confirmation of 2 unifactorial models, the first model did not present adequate adjustment rates, so which proceeded to the covariance of items 4 and 5, obtaining optimal results in the second model of the one-dimensional instrument. It was subsequently performed a third model of MIMIC invariance, where it was used as predictors to the variables of sex and age to the model previous, which allowed to determine the lack of difference between these categorical gro...

In the assessment process, health professionals often evaluate for the presence of suicidal ideation to rule out any risk of suicide attempt. However, it is necessary to understand that suicidal ideation is not a static construct. On the contrary, it is ambivalent and differs in severity from passive suicidal ideation to active suicidal ideation. Because the likelihood of suicidal behavior may occur due to the severity of suicidal ideation, the assessment of active suicidal ideation has been primarily emphasized. However, recent research indicates a high prevalence of passive suicidal ideation in clinical samples and in the general population. Therefore, the aim of the manuscript is to provide a brief description of passive and active suicidal ideation, as well as its comorbidity with other emotional disorders. In that sense, both types of suicidal ideation and their importance of assess...

Body dissatisfaction is disspleasure with the appearance or size of some parts of the body and high levels of prevalence have been evidenced in the university population that constantly worries about their physical image. Therefore, the study sought to analyze the validity process based on the structure and internal consistency of the BSQ in a sample of university students. The research is of type instrumental and 272 women were evaluated using the BSQ. By means of a confirmatory factor analysis checked that the one-dimensional model explained the construct better compared to the models proposed by other studies. Furthermore, evidenced excellent internal consistency and of construct by means of the ω and H coefficients. The results support the use of the BSQ in the university population and its one-dimensional structure. Furthermore, the impo...

“Background: Globally, arterial hypertension (AH) has increased by 90% over the last four decades, and has increased by 1.6% in Peru over the previous four years. Scientific evidence indicates the prevalence of depressive symptoms in patients with AH and its importance in the comprehensive evaluation of the adult for adherence to clinical treatment. Previous studies carried out in the Peruvian population with AH mostly report the prevalence and associations, but do not indicate which depressive symptoms are more relevant in patients with AH. This study involved a network analysis of depressive symptomatology in Peruvian patients with AH using network estimation. Network analysis is used in this study for analysis, control, and monitoring purposes. Method: A representative cross-sectional study at the national level, using secondary data from 2019 Demographic and Family Health Survey (E...

Loneliness and depression are the most prevalent mental health issues among older adults, and their relationship has been documented in studies using reflective psychopathological models based on the total scores. However, mental health problems should be investigated at the level of individual symptoms in order to develop intervention strategies aimed at mitigating the adverse impact of both variables. The goal was to examine the extent to which symptoms of loneliness relate to symptoms of depression in elderly Peruvians using the network method in 328 Peruvian adults with an average age of 68.44 years (SD = 7.64). The participants were selected through non-probability convenience sampling, which may limit the generalizability of the results. The Patient Health Questionnaire-2 (PHQ-2) and three-item UCLA Loneliness Scale were used in this study. Network analysis was used to identify cen...

This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Grief Impairment Scale (GIS) using a network psychometric model. A total of 1048 individuals from Peru and El Salvador participated. A network psychometric model was used to determine internal structure, reliability, and cross-country invariance. The results indicate that the GIS items were grouped into a single network structure through Exploratory Graph Analysis. Reliability was estimated by structural consistency, and it was found that when replicating the network structure within an empirical dimension, a single network structure was consistently obtained, and all items remained stable. Furthermore, the network structure was invariant, thus functioning similarly across the different country groups. In conclusion, the GIS presented solid psychometric evidence of validity based on its internal structure, reliability, and c...

The Grief Impairment Scale (GIS) is used to measure functional impairment due to grief following the death of a loved one. However, there is no information on its cross-cultural utility. Thus, this study assessed the measurement invariance of the GIS using a large sample of bereaved adults (N = 2060) from Peru, El Salvador, Ecuador, and Colombia. Specifically, we employed two measurement invariance techniques: multi-group confirmatory factor analysis (MG-CFA) and the alignment optimization method. The results indicated that the GIS demonstrated configural and metric invariance, but not scalar invariance through MG-CFA. The alignment optimization method indicated the presence of an approximate invariance. Therefore, the results suggest that the GIS measures grief-related impairment similarly across the four Latin American countries. Among the countries examined, Peru reported the highest ...
