The present study aims to evaluate the factorial structure and measurement invariance according to sex of the Assertiveness Inventory of Gambrill and Richey (1975) in Peruvian adolescents composed of two subscales of Degree of Discomfort and Response Index, using a non-probabilistic sample of 639 Peruvian adolescents aged 14 to 20 years (ME= 15.84, SD= 0.86). Evidence of validity was obtained based on the criterion of judges as part of the contextual and linguistic adaptation process for the evaluated population. Confirmatory factor analysis was performed on 3 models of the degree of discomfort (GI) subscale and 3 models on the Response Rate (RP) subscale. Subsequently, the equivalence of measurement of both subscales was evaluated, showing that this measure is invariant according to sex in Peruvian adolescents.

“Background: Globally, arterial hypertension (AH) has increased by 90% over the last four decades, and has increased by 1.6% in Peru over the previous four years. Scientific evidence indicates the prevalence of depressive symptoms in patients with AH and its importance in the comprehensive evaluation of the adult for adherence to clinical treatment. Previous studies carried out in the Peruvian population with AH mostly report the prevalence and associations, but do not indicate which depressive symptoms are more relevant in patients with AH. This study involved a network analysis of depressive symptomatology in Peruvian patients with AH using network estimation. Network analysis is used in this study for analysis, control, and monitoring purposes. Method: A representative cross-sectional study at the national level, using secondary data from 2019 Demographic and Family Health Survey (E...

In this chapter, we present the main methodological principles of psychological networks as a way of conceptualizing mental disorders. In the network approach, mental disorders are conceptualized as the consequence of direct interactions between symptoms, which may involve biological, psychological, and social mechanisms. If these cause-and-effect relationships are strong enough, symptoms can generate a degree of feedback to sustain them. It is discussed how such an approach contrasts with the traditional psychometric approach, known as the Latent Variable Theory, which assumes that disorders are constructs that exist but are not directly observable. Furthermore, it is also discussed how new neuropsychological hypotheses have been derived in the network approach and how such hypotheses generate direct implications for the understanding of diagnosis and treatment of psychological disorder...

Context. Knowledge, beliefs, and attitudes toward palliative care (PC) constitute barriers to its access. Few studies have focused on the intrinsic relationship between these variables, and none has examined the relationship between them and self-care self-efficacy. Objective. To examine the direct and indirect effects of self-care self-efficacy, knowledge, and beliefs on attitudes toward PC. Methods. A cross-sectional predictive study was conducted. Self-care self-efficacy, knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs about PC were analyzed using information from the Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS 5, cycle 2, 2018). Data from 1,162 participants were considered. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to represent the statistical mediation model with latent and observable variables. Results. The structural model presents positive coefficients indicating that self-care selfeffi...

Background: Depressive symptoms can affect people’s quality of life and social environment. In addition, in severe situations, they can lead to suicidal behaviors. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the differences in depressive symptoms in underweight and obese Peruvian adults. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out based on secondary data obtained from the Instituto Nacional de Estadística e Informática (INEI), Lima, Peru. A sample of 10053 participants was considered, of which 55.96% were women. Two Gaussian plot models were estimated and the levels of depressive symptomatology were compared between the 2 groups (adults with underweight and obese). Results: A total of 1510 (15.02%) were underweight adults and 8543 (84.98%) were obese adults. There were differences in the reporting of depressive symptoms in the underweight group; the most central items were “Depress...

Introduction: Enneagram typologies may impact psychological well-being and stressful situations in college students. However, the literature is still limited in the study of dynamic personality models such as the Enneagram in Spanish-speaking university students, and a better understanding is needed. Objective: To analyze network associations and centrality measures of Enneagram personality typologies in Peruvian university students. Methods: A total of 859 Peruvian university students responded to two instruments assessing: The Pangrazzi’s Enneagram personality types and healthy personality to psychosocial stress. All instruments showed good psychometric values (validity and consistency). A regularized cross-sectional network structure was estimated with Gaussian graphical model and the graphical LASSO. Results: Enneagram types 4, 5, and 6 presented the highest and positive associatio...

Background: University students often experience significant changes in their eating habits, which can increase the risk of developing eating disorders (ED). This situation calls for the creation of brief assessment tools to identify college students who may be most at risk. The aim of the study was to determine the psychometric properties of the Eating Attitudes Test-8 (EAT-8) in a Peruvian university population; additionally, the possible differences in the scores of the instrument according to sociodemographic variables, such as gender and age, were examined. Methods: A psychometric study was conducted on 610 participants (M =  24.3, SD  =  2.16, and 61.5% female), aged 19 to 31 years, belonging to four universities of different professional careers. Results: The unidimensional eight-item model was found to have fit indices that confirm acceptable factorial validity (X2 /df  =...

Introduction: Suicidal ideation is the behavior of the individual linked to irrational thoughts about the life. At present, it is considered as the first step towards suicidal behavior and is mostly associated with teenagers. Method: 251 students between 12 and 18 years old participated (ME = 14.73, SD = 1.57) which responded the Paykel Suicide Scale (PSS) and sociodemographic data. Results: Factor analysis was performed confirmation of 2 unifactorial models, the first model did not present adequate adjustment rates, so which proceeded to the covariance of items 4 and 5, obtaining optimal results in the second model of the one-dimensional instrument. It was subsequently performed a third model of MIMIC invariance, where it was used as predictors to the variables of sex and age to the model previous, which allowed to determine the lack of difference between these categorical gro...
