Introduction: The incidence of thyroid cancer has increased worldwide. Peru has few reports describing the national and regional epidemiology of thyroid cancer. Objective: The incidence of thyroid cancer has increased worldwide. Peru has few reports describing the national and regional epidemiology of thyroid cancer. Methods: A descriptive study of trends was conducted with secondary data obtained from a public information source in Peru. The ICD 10: C73.0 coding record was evaluated, by age group, year and region. The age-standardized prevalence (period 2005 to 2016) and mortality (period 2005 to 2015) were calculated by region and year of study. Results: In the 2005-2016 period, 19 513 cases of thyroid cancer were recorded. The age group with the highest frequency was 30 to 59 years (57.7%). The prevalence increased from 4.7 to 15.2 cases per 100 000 inhabitants in the period 2005-2016...

Objective. To estimate the mortality attributable to diabetes mellitus (DM) as recorded by Peru’s Ministry of Health and its association with the human development index (HDI). Methods. This was an ecological study based on a secondary analysis of death records belonging to the Ministry of Health for the period from 2005 to 2014. A death was considered attributable to DM if the underlying cause of death given in the death record was DM. Mortality attributable to DM has been presented descriptively and in terms of geospatial analyses, and Spearman’s rho was used to test for an association between the difference in the mortality attributable to DM (between 2005-2006 and 2013-2014) and the HDI in Peru’s various departments.

The departments with more hospitalizations were Lima (202 cases), Lambayeque (21 cases), and Piura (17 cases). The seasons of the year with more hospitalizations were winter and spring. The incidence of KD increased from 0.52 to 2.28 cases per 100,000 children under five years old between 2015 and 2019. Conclusions: There was an increase in hospitalizations due to KD, more frequent in...

Budd-Chiari syndrome is caused by an obstruction of blood flow to the liver. Published cases of the antiphospholipid syndrome associated with BCS are limited in the pediatric population. We report a 15-year-old adolescent who presented with fever, ascites, and hepatosplenomegaly. Hepatic Doppler ultrasound revealed no flow in the right and middle hepatic veins and in the inferior vena cava. Abdominal tomography revealed extensive thrombosis of the inferior vena cava. During hospitalization, she was diagnosed with antiphospholipid syndrome and systemic lupus erythematosus. She was given treatment with unfractionated heparin, low molecular weight heparin, and anticoagulants. Budd-Chiari syndrome secondary to the antiphospholipid syndrome is a life-threatening disease. Timely diagnosis and treatment improve the quality of life of the patient.

Background. Cervical ectopic pregnancy is the implantation of the embryo in the lining of the endocervical canal lining. It represents less than 1% of all ectopic pregnancies. Case description: We report two patients who come to the emergency room for transvaginal bleeding. The diagnosis of cervical ectopic pregnancy was made by transvaginal ultrasound (7- and 8-weeks' gestation). Treatment was started with methotrexate (28-year-old patient) and methotrexate-folinic acid (35-year-old patient). Due to the increase in human chorionic gonadotropin hormone, it was decided to perform an abdominal hysterectomy (28-year-old patient) and McDonald-type cervical curettage-cerclage (35-year-old patient). There were no complications after surgery in both patients. Conclusions: The treatment of cervical ectopic pregnancy is controversial. The most appropriate therapy should be chosen to preserv...
