This experimental study was to evaluate the effect of prednisone on the ratio of the length of tooth movement in rats (Rattus norvegicus). The evaluation of this relationship was performed in 20 male Wistar rats 12 weeks of age, weighing 225 ± 25 g, to which adapted a orthodontic breaker in their upper central incisors, were then randomly divided into two groups: control (physiological saline to 2 mL/kg) and experimental (prednisone 20 mg/kg ip), the treatment began five days before placement of the device and then to the first, third and fifth day. With a gauge, was measured the interincisisor distance to finish placing the device, as so as to the first, third, fifth and seventh day. On the 1st day of testing, the control group and the experimental group had a interincisiva distance 1,13 ± 0,18 mm and 0,24 ± 0,09 mm and the 7th day was 1,76 ± 0,14 mm and 1,56 ± 0,20 mm, respectivel...

Were used 48 albino Sprague Dawley rats of 200 to 250 g, 8 weeks of age, of whom 40 underwent surgical removal of both ovaries, following the technique of bilateral ovariectomy on the flank. After the post-operative were divided into six groups and hydroalcoholic extract was administered orally under the following scheme of work: Group 1 negative control: (OVX), vehicle of the extract 2mL/kg; Group 2 positive control: (OVX), estradiol subcutaneous 3 µg/kg; Group 3, 4 y 5: (OVX) more extract 100, 500 and 1000 mg/kg, respectively; and Group 6: not OVX control the surgical procedure (SHAM). The treatment lasted 14 days and was evaluated the body weight, uterine weight, changes of oestrus by vaginal smears and hormonal profile analysis. ...

Male albino mice Mus musculus BALB/c of two months, 25±5 g weigth, were used for induction of hypertension with N-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) administered at doses of 130 mg/kg/day, orally for seven days, measuring baseline and post induction blood pressure. The mice were divided into six groups of ten animals: negative control (distilled water), positive control (L-NAME), experimental groups at doses of 200, 400 and 600 mg/kg of methanolic extract, and enalapril group to doses 75 mg/kg. The treatment was administered for 30 days continuous and blood pressure was measured every five days. The study of chronic toxicity was determined to repeated doses for 60 days in normotensive rats, divided into three groups of six an...

The present study aimed to determine the effect of the essential oil of oregano (Origanum vulgare L.) on the external otitis in dogs by Malassezia spp. Were used 38 animals, 22 had bilateral otitis and 16 unilateral (60 ears). Were collected the ear discharge of both ears using sterile swabs and samples were evaluated by performing yeast count per field, after had been subjected to Wright staining. Were made stable dilutions of essential oil of oregano in mineral oil at 1, 2 and 5%. The evaluation of the antifungal effect in vivo was determined by comparing the three dilutions with clotrimazole 1%, used as positive control, and with pure mineral oil in placebo group. The effectiveness of the effect of the dilutions was compared by counting yeasts visual field to the 3rd and 8th day of treatment. Got Better effect to the 8th day with the essential oil of oregano (AEO) 5% with 75% of ears ...

This study was designed in three phases: 1. Preliminary assessment of the extract of calyces. 2. Formulation and assessment of gels incorporating the extract. 3. Assessment of the anti-inflammatory activity of the gel. Objective. To evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity of a gel based on the lyophilized ethanolic extract of calyces of Physalis peruviana “goldenberry”. Methodology. Calyces of goldenberry collected from a processing company in the department of Cuzco were subject of a reflux extraction with petroleum ether and, from the residue, it was prepared an ethanolic extract, by maceration, which was lyophilized and incorporated at concentration of 1 % in different formulations of gel base of sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), polyacrylamide and carbomer. Those preparations that presented better physical compatibility were subjected to preliminary stability. For the assessme...

Were studied the antioxidant effect and toxicity of the hot springs of San Antonio de Putina-Puno. Were used methods of lipid antiperoxidation, malondialdehyde (expressed as TBARS), in vivo oral acute toxicity at fixed dose according to 423 OECD and the physical chemistry composition by inductively coupled plasma source mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The antioxidant effect presented significant difference between control group (0,0527 ŋm) and the study group (0,0390 ŋm) and malondialdehyde (p<0,05) and in vivo oral acute toxicity at fixed-dose treatment. Not evident signs of intoxication, moreover, in the composition of these hot springs were found: chloride 71,9%, sodium 80,3 % and sulphate 22,7% meq. Was concluded that the thermal mineral hot springs, are not toxic, have antioxidant effect and are chlorinated, sulphate and sodium type.
