This master thesis is devoted to the state estimation of a particular form of PDE systems, coupled parabolic PDEs with spatial dependent coefficients. This form of PDEs represent some dynamic systems such as Tubular Reactors, Diffusion in lithium-ion cells and Diffusive Gradient in Thin Films sensor. Other methods for this problem use "Backstepping" observers, in which the estimation error system is transformed into another system that is stable, reducing the problem to calculate the Kernel functions making the transformation possible. In some cases this calculation is not simple, also the simulation in real time of the observer system, that is also a PDE, can be difficult. The method presented in this thesis uses the properties of the so-called Modulating Functions in order to estimate the states. The procedure con- sists of generating an orthonormal basis of functions that can represen...

Foreground detection is the task of labelling the foreground (moving objects) or background (static scenario) pixels in the video sequence and it depends on the context of the scene. For many years, methods based on background model have been the most used approaches for detecting foreground; however, their methods are sensitive to error propagation from the first background model estimations. To address this problem, we proposed a U-net-based architecture with a feature attention module, where the encoding of the entire video sequence is used as the attention context to get features related to the background model. Furthermore, we added three spatial attention modules with the aim of highlighting regions with relevant features. We tested our network on sixteen scenes from the CDnet2014 dataset, with an average F-measure of 97.84. The results also show that our model outperforms traditio...

This paper presents an assessment of the need for more serious proposals MINEDU has worked to overcome the serious problems in terms of reading comprehension are presented in Peruvian education: the modules of the National Mobilization for Reading Comprehension, which has been taking out since 2009. This mobilization has ensured that all students in the country are required readings for classroom work, which have been selected and adapted according to the multicultural reality of our country. This research allowed us to evaluate the implementation of these modules through the use of surveys to a representative sample of Peruvians educational institutions (Lima, La Libertad, Moquegua, Junin, Huanuco, San Martin and Madre de Dios). These information gathering tools were applied to teachers and students, which were then contrasted with the Classroom Observation Form. Through them are eviden...

The purpose of this research is to demonstrate the effectiveness of the use of the constructivist strategy to improve reading comprehension in the English language in students of Alternative Basic Education (EBA) of the Ministry of Education of Peru. The application of this strategy allows the student to get involved with the text, since it gathers his previous experiences as a reader, as well as his daily life; pushing it to put together new concepts, facilitating in this way to understand the texts it reads. The "A busy day in the office" Entry and Exit Test is applied, which has achieved the principles of validity and reliability, before starting the experience. A sample of 32 first-year students of the CEBA "Bartolomé Herrera", 16 of the "A" section, control group and 16 of the "B" section of the experimental group was selected. The ages of the students range from 16 to 29 years; Ac...

Programmable logic controllers (PLC) devices play an important role in automation systems; therefore, technicians must have adequate training with these devices. If a student wants to learn about PLCs, they will find two problems. First, training programs are expensive, and second, PLC modules are not suitable for gaining hands-on skills. This study proposes the implementation and validation of a less expensive PLC module that is accessible to students interested in learning about this technology. Two prototypes were developed using a PIC16F877 and an ATMEGA328P microcontroller. This study describes the enhancement made in the second prototype over the first prototype. Finally, a comparison test between the two prototypes and two commercial PLCs is demonstrated. A MyRIO programmed as a data logger monitored the PLC operation for 12h. The program recorded the response time of the PLC outp...

The rapid growth of the market for the use of renewable energy has increased the use of solar energy which has a significant role in power generation. This requires the insertion of equipment capable of providing precise measurements of the photovoltaic modules, either to verify the operation of the installation or to find specific problems. In this scenario, the current versus voltage curve tracer is used to describe the electrical behavior of the photovoltaic system through all the operating possibilities, but it has an excessive cost for small installations. This paper presents the development of a current-voltage curve tracer, capable of performing current, voltage and power measurements, contributing to the creation of equipment to test photovoltaic installations. The methods to obtain the I-V curves are presented and the characteristics of the embedded electronic system, which is b...

This work describes and evaluates the application of a module to increase the specific abilities set in action when students resolve math problems. Such abilities are: analyzing the problem, identifying and laying out strategies, applying algorithms and revising the process that leads to the solution. The module presents problems solved by the teacher (modelling strategies) and uses the work of peers in order to consolidate and evaluate the work. The study uses a quasi experimental design with two pre defined groups, pre and post test. The sample was not probabilistic and was formed by 70 students. A test with 10 math problems was used as the instrument meant for the students to use the four strategies suggested in the module. Results show a difference in favor of the experimental group, which allows us to conclude that the module has an influence in the evaluated abilities.

The field of autonomous driving has been evolving rapidly within the last few years and a lot of research has been dedicated towards the control of autonomous vehicles, especially car-like ones. Due to the recent successes of artificial intelligence techniques, even more complex problems can be solved, such as the control of autonomous multibody vehicles. Multibody vehicles can accomplish transportation tasks in a faster and cheaper way compared to multiple individual mobile vehicles or robots. But even for a human, driving a truck-trailer is a challenging task. This is because of the complex structure of the vehicle and the maneuvers that it has to perform, such as reverse parking to a loading dock. In addition, the detailed technical solution for an autonomous truck is challenging and even though many single-domain solutions are available, e.g. for pathplanning, no holistic framework e...
