Objective: Compare the values of the blood biomakers: uric acid, creatinine, glucose, cholesterol and triglycerides, in two groups of university professors apparently healthy. Methods: The first group, formed by 58 professors aged 60 to 64, and the second formed by 35 professors aged 75 to 81, in order to evaluate if there is a significant statistic difference in both groups. Results: The values of uric acid in group I were between 2,50 mg/dL. and 8,20 mg/dL; in groups II were between 2,50 mg/dL and 8,63 mg/dL, showing a significant difference (p=0.035). The values of creatinine in group I were between 0,64 mg/dL and 1,56 mg/dL; and in group II were between 0,80 mg/dL and 1,61 mg/dL., showing a significant difference (p=0.004). The values of glucose in group I were between 63 mg/dL and 188 mg/dL; and in group II were between 60 mg/dL y 297 mg/dL, not showing significant differe...

Objective: Soluble antigens of ABO blood group system are found in the mucosa, this characteristic is called secretor status, has been associated with various pathological conditions and is determined by the allele of the FUT2 gene present in the individual. The aim of the present study was to generate the first report of the secretor status in a Peruvian population. Materials and Methods: 102 undergraduate students were selected, requesting their consent to verify their blood group through direct hemagglutination and a saliva sample donation. Secretor status was determined by hemagglutination inhibition assay with saliva, being found that 5% of individuals were non-secretors. Results: Regarding the ABO system, 76% presented group O (soluble antigen H); 19%, group A and 5%, group B. Conclusion: A high frequency of the secretor phenotype was found, suggesting the importance of conducting ...

Introduction: The assessment of group cohesion is a fundamental aspect in the context of higher education. However, there is a need for appropriate and specific instruments to assess this construct in the university context. Objective: To adapt and validate the University Group Environment Questionnaire (UGEQ) group cohesion measure to the Spanish population. Method: The sample used for this study consisted of 309 Spanish university students, with a mean age of 22.61 (SD=5.5). For data analysis, a confirmatory factorial analysis was performed, following the structure of the original instrument (UGEQ). Results: The results suggest optimal adjustment indices (CFI= 0.92; TLI=0.90; SRMR=0.068 and RMSEA= 0.081 [90% CI: 0.071- 0.092]) and appropriate internal consistency (0.88 [95% CI: 0.86-0.90]) and temporal stability. Discussion: These findings support the use of the UGEQ as a valid and rel...

University studies are crossed by a social environment that makes it difficult to meet others and joint reflection; a context that often tends to the isolation and removal of critical thinking. Faced with this, since 2013 we have developed a working device with workshops and reflection groups with students from Psychology Degree. These devices seek to develop feelings of permanence and belonging to the University, stimulate tolerance, respect, participation, social and institutional commitment, promoting the achievement of ethical and responsible professional subjectivity. In this paper we propose to qualitatively analyze the characteristics of the group ties that were generated within this intervention. To this end, we analyze the participant observation records made from 2013 to 2019. We find that these groups in university offer a prop up that is vitally important to go through the un...

A qualitative study was performed using the focus group methodology with first year university students in Greater Lima, to learn about their drinking habits and explore the main determinants of their alcohol consumption. Four homogeneous focus groups (by gender and social class) were organized, with group sizes between 5 and 9. Content analysis of the discussions revealed that the stressors experienced by these students are similar to those of other western adolescents, yet that economic difficulties and weight concerns (among females) provide additional stress. Expectancies towards alcohol were predominantly positive and partly reflected those of American adolescents (social enhancement, tension reduction and improved cognitive/motor abilities), although additional expectancies were mentioned (pleasure, diversion, loss of inhibitions, selfconfidence and group acceptance) and others w...

The present quantitative study shows the singularities of the university audience in Mexico in 2017, measured according to their civic participation, how they assess national institutions, and how they interact with the media regarding social and political issues. The surveyed population consisted of 1,195 young adults of 23 years of average age and who are part of private universities located in Jalisco, Mexico City and Aguascalientes. The results indicate that the offline participation in social capital is more significant than online participation of this university audience. The only institutions that have an approval index for this audience are religious institutions, universities, and the media. Finally, the university audience in Mexico has features of being passive and conservative regarding its consumption of information and its political participation in media. This population ...

The article supports proposals from the teaching experience and research, regarding emancipatory relationships among teachers and students based on the use of group and collaborative relational and communicative practices. From the standpoint of historical and cultural references, the article insists on the need to dismantle the traditional culture of universities, and to develop intersubjective practices based on respect, symmetry in relationships, affectivity, and collaboration. The feasibility of groups as a foundation for this change in educational institutions is debated. Finally, these proposals, developed from social psychology, are linked to the collaborative learning model.

The university is faced with tensions and demands resulting from the transformations that society demands. The new public management (NGP) imposes new paradigms as far as university administration is concerned. Concomitantly, the international rankings of universities establish standards and classifications, placing the focus on access to information that should be available to interest groups. This work has been proposed as a central purpose, to describe the ways of appointing the rectors in Latin American universities, with the purpose of elaborating in theoretical terms a taxonomy that allows to differentiate and classify the universities of the region, opening the discussion on what is the most appropriate mechanism to provide the position of the highest university authority. The information used for this study was obtained from a primary source: the database of universities in Latin...

The present investigation shows the difficulties that students present for the application of search criteria and selection of texts for the preparation of academic works in the first year of university. Based on this, an improvement proposal was presented that consisted of three didactic workshops in three groups of the face-to-face modality and in three groups of the blended modality of the Technological University of Peru, execut-ed in the second semester of 2019. Likewise, we worked according to the interpretive paradigm, qualitative approach, descriptive design and inductive method. It is concluded that there were diverse effects both in the face-to-face and blended modality, in the permanence of studies, in the assimilation of learning and in the uses of technological information resources for academic research.

A strategy that supports the student’s academic and personal formation is that university consider tutoring as a mechanism that supports with favorable results to fight against the desertion of students. However, there are related prob-lems in performing student segmentation and conducting psychological interven-tions. The objective was to formulate a classification model for intervention pro-grams in university students based on unsupervised algorithms. For this, we car-ried out a non-experimental, simple descriptive study on a population of 60 uni-versity students; we carried out the data extraction process through a chatbot that applied the BarOn ICE test. After we obtained the data, the unsupervised k-means algorithm was used to group the students into sets determined based on the closest mean value obtained from the psychological test. We built a model for classifying students bas...
