Introduction: experimentation is an essential tool in learning, allowing an explanation of how knowledge integrates within a scientific academic community. Objective: to analyze the perception of students, teachers, and administrative staff regarding the delivery of practical classes in General Chemistry through virtual modality (use of laboratories) at the State University of the Santa Elena Peninsula (UPSE) in Santa Elena, Ecuador, amidst the health emergency caused by COVID-19 during 2020. Methodology: a mixed approach with an exploratory scope was employed, utilizing survey techniques with an instrument consisting of 15 parametric questions (10 closed-ended and 5 open-ended), exhibiting a reliability of 0.767 in Cronbach's Alpha; the research was non-experimental, adopting a cross-sectional cohort, encompassing the entire sample (133 individuals). Results: Over 50% of educational sta...

The transition of the 30S initiation complex (IC) to the translating 70S ribosome after 50S subunit joining provides an important checkpoint for mRNA selection during translation in bacteria. Here, we study the timing and control of reactions that occur during 70S IC formation by rapid kinetic techniques, using a toolbox of fluorescence-labeled translation components. We present a kinetic model based on global fitting of time courses obtained with eight different reporters at increasing concentrations of 50S subunits. IF1 and IF3 together affect the kinetics of subunit joining, but do not alter the elemental rates of subsequent steps of 70S IC maturation. After 50S subunit joining, IF2-dependent reactions take place independent of the presence of IF1 or IF3. GTP hydrolysis triggers the efficient dissociation of fMet-tRNAfMet from IF2 and promotes the dissociation of IF2 and IF1 from the ...

Objective: to describe the existing patterns of mortality in Peru, at the national and regional level. Materials and methods: a secondary analysis using national death records from 2003 to 2016 was conducted. The Global Burden of Disease 20017 approach was utilized to group underlying causes of death into five groups: non-communicable diseases, infectious diseases, maternal and neonatal, nutritional, and injury deaths. The Mann-Kendall tau test was used to assess trends and changes of causes of death over time. Results: between 2003 and 2016, a total of 1′295,290 deaths at the national level were recorded, but only 698,037 records were analyzed. For 2003, 63.9% of deaths were attributed to non-communicable diseases, whereas 16.9% were due to infectious diseases, and 8.8% for injuries. For 2016, 83.6% of deaths were attributed to non-communicable diseases (p-value for trends < 0.001)...

Nowadays, young workers around the world are facing a paradox: they are better educated but worst employed. This situation is no very different either in Latin America or Peru, where unemployment and underemployment rates reach high levels among young workers. This work reviews some theories trying to explain this phenomena. From this literature review, three variables were selected as appropriated for assessing young labor market in Peru: job searching time, first job duration and skill mismatch. Applying the nested Tobit model proposed by Lee(1992), we found : first, the more educated is a person the less time has to devote to job searching. Second, skill mismatch likelihood increases until the undergraduate level, reducing when persons reach postgraduate level. Further, search time also increases skill mismatch likelihood. Third, regarding job duration, only under and after graduate l...

The study examines the job market of «urban youth» aged between 18 and 35 without higher education (university or technical) based on household surveys (Encuesta Nacional de Hogares – Enaho) and specialized surveys (Encuesta Nacional de Habilidades – Enhab; Encuesta de Transición de la Escuela al Trabajo – Entrans). The results show, firstly, supply constraints in the period 2007- 2012, which coincides with the massification of higher education over the last ten years. Secondly, it was found that students from public schools are more liable to complete high school with maxi- mum educational attainment. Thirdly, it was estimated that urban youths aged 15 to 29 cited in the Entrans 2012—and who received job training in the year prior to the survey—are 4.1 times more likely to obtain «adequate employment» in terms of pay, adequate contracts, and health insurance. Fina...

Transferring commuters on Atocongo (Lima, Perú), between Linea Amarilla (buses) and Line 1 of the Lima Metro (subway) shows various challenges. Commuters have to board the buses on the street, after crossing crowded roads, there are also interruptions like street vendors, crowded sidewalks, and lack of traffic signals at crosswalks. The transfer time is not optimized and the actios is not safe for commuters. This research proposes a multimodal interconnection that reduces transfer time and leads users directly between both transportation systems, on both routes: From Santiago de Surco (SS) and San Juan de Miraflores (SJM). The transfer time was obtained (current situation) and a model was developed with the interconnection infrastructure of both transport systems (proposed situation). From the comparison of both situations, it was obtained that the times were reduced, for the route from...

Hope, optimism and commitment were part of the values deposited in the foundation of our Allpanchis magazine. Perhaps the best evidence of this is the name itself, which, in its Spanish version, intones the psalm: «our land will give its fruit», a profound interpellation that, in addition to the clear theological and pastoral agenda of its time, can be read as the commitment to the academic potential of our heritage. It did not take many years for the intellectual achievements of the research body of what was the Andean Pastoral Institute (IPA) to begin to be reaped, both companies run by a cohort of bishops, priests, nuns and pastoral agents. Within the research projects of the IPA, aimed at understanding the social processes and practices of its time from a religious and scientific perspective, Allpanchis played a key role in that it offered a space for reflection aimed at the ...

The central subject of this article is the analysis of historical developments relating to the establishment of formal democracy in Bolivia as well as the examination of the structural inefficiency and weakness of those institutions which should support the democraiic process. In the authors' opinion, the lack of viability of democracy in Bolivia is largely due to the fact that political parties play no effective role in acting as mediators between the State and Society, thereby making impossible the process of aggregation of divergent demands and thus the stable support from society to the State. On the contrary, to the extent that "caudillista" tendencies prevail among the principal Bolivian leaders, day-to-day politics will encourage the practice of clientelist relations which will erode the very viability of formal political institutions. Thus the authors underline the fact that, ...

A new international order of a transitory nature has been developed since 2008. It shows presenting a set of characteristics that will be the subject matter of this document. We speak of an international order to the extent that we limit our analysis to the order that prevails among sovereign states and we point out that it is transitory because its charac-teristics are not fully defined or established, and might vary along time. Likewise, we mark the beginning of this new order in 2008, as it is from then that the relative decline of the world superpower is evident.

The highly productive waters of the Humboldt Current System (HCS) host a particular temperate ecosystem within the tropics, whose history is still largely unknown. The Pisco Formation, deposited during Mio-Pliocene times in the Peruvian continental margin has yielded an outstanding collection of coastal-marine fossils, providing an opportunity to understand the genesis of the HCS ecosystem. We present a comprehensive review, completed with new results, that integrates geological and paleontological data from the last 10 My, especially focusing on the southern East Pisco Basin (Sacaco area). We discuss the depositional settings of the Pisco Formation and integrate new U/Pb radiometric ages into the chronostratigraphic framework of the Sacaco sub-basin. The last preserved Pisco sediments at Sacaco were deposited ~ 4.5 Ma, while the overlying Caracoles Formation accumulated from ~ 2.7 Ma on...

Fine-grained sediment (grain size under 2,000 μm) builds floodplains and deltas, and shapes the coastlines where much of humanity lives. However, a universal, physically based predictor of sediment flux for fine-grained rivers remains to be developed. Herein, a comprehensive sediment load database for fine-grained channels, ranging from small experimental flumes to megarivers, is used to find a predictive algorithm. Two distinct transport regimes emerge, separated by a discontinuous transition for median bed grain size within the very fine sand range (81 to 154 μm), whereby sediment flux decreases by up to 100-fold for coarser sand-bedded rivers compared to river with silt and very fine sand beds. Evidence suggests that the discontinuous change in sediment load originates from a transition of transport mode between mixed suspended bed load transport and suspension-dominated transport. ...

This article explores the interactions between female and male councillors in two Peruvian municipal councils from a gender perspective. In the first place, some figures about women’s political participation in the councils under analysis are presented, followed by a brief introduction of the main findings of the academic literature about the topic of interest. In second place, it introduces the main concepts of feminist theory in political science that will be used to understand the relationships between the authorities, focusing on the sexual division of labour (SDL). In third place, the main features of the political trajectories, both men’s and women’s, are presented, as well as how they are shaped by individual, family and institutional factors that are mediated by gender. The article concludes that the trajectories of female and male councillors are more similar than differen...

In the present work we realize a systematic study of the optical properties of transition metal dichalcogenides using time dependent density functional theory for the determination of excited states of conduction band considering the electron density as a time dependent functional and temporarily affect the screening Coulomb potential which is used in Dyson equation for electric susceptibility determination. We calculate the real and imaginary parts of dielectric function which permit us to observe the absorption coefficient and the plasmon formation for electromagnetic radiation photons from the infrared (25 meV) to ultraviolet (30 eV) range. And we found that the imaginary parts of zz component of the 2D systems have not absorption peaks, meanwhile, the xx, yy and zz components of the 2D systems have not shown plasma frequencies.

The theory of electronality, born from literary and semiotic studies has been used since 2017 to understand the functioning of the autistic mind. This article updates concepts and terminology resulting from research and practice in daily work with autistic people in EITA - Peru. Autism is a life condition associated with an atypical neurodevelopment (neurotype) where talent is appreciated in the areas of information systematization, detailed processing and pattern search. The form of production of meaning in our current society -still in transit from the scribal to the electronal stage- finds similarities with the way in which the autistic mind processes and perceives information from the world, privileging subjectivity over the objective, the deferred communication rather than immediate and the use of extensional logic rather than intensional. This does not mean that new technologies fa...
