Objective. To evaluate the effects of endosperm of tara seeds (ETS) and powder of Agave americana leaves (AAL) on body weight and intestinal transit time in Holtzman rats. Materials and Methods. Twenty-five male Holtzman rats, individually caged, and distributed into five groups were fed for 21 days with one of the following treatments: T1, diet with 6% alpha cellulose (Control); T2, diet with 6% ETS; T3, diet with 6% AAL; T4, diet with 10% ETS; and T5, Diet with 10% AAL. The endosperm of tara seeds (EST) and powder from the leaves of Agave americana (HAA) were evaluated as new sources of dietary fiber, using wheat bran (ST) as a reference. In vitro experiments were carried out to determine functional properties and in vivo experiments were used to determine the physiological effects of fed Holtzman rats with diets with 6% of each fiber source. Endosperm of tara had 32.2% solubility, 45.0 and 47.9 g/g absorption and water retention capacity, respectively, and 46 ml/g swelling, values significantly higher than wheat bran (p< 0.01). On the other hand, Agave had higher adsorption capacity of oil than wheat bran (6.38 g/g vs. 5.27 g/g; p< 0.01). El objetivo del presente trabajo fue evaluar el efecto de las diferentes condiciones de germinado sobre los valores nutricionales, los compuestos fenólicos totales, la actividad antioxidante y las propiedades funcionales en las semillas de basul.

Objetivos. Evaluar el efecto del endospermo de semilla de tara (EST) y polvo de hojas del Agave americana (HAA) sobre el peso corporal y velocidad de tránsito intestinal en ratas Holtzman. Materiales y métodos. Veinticinco ratas machos Holtzman distribuidas en cinco grupos y alojadas en jaulas individuales, fueron alimentadas durante 21 días con uno de los siguientes tratamientos: T1, dieta con 6% de alfa celulosa (control); T2, dieta con 6% de EST; T3, dieta con 6% de HAA; T4, dieta con 10% de EST y T5, dieta con 10% de HAA. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of mordants on the variation of mean fibre diameter (MFD), spinning fineness (SF), and colour tone in alpaca fibre threads dyed with colli flowers (Buddleja coriacea). The dye was extracted using boiling water, followed by immersion of the thread in 160 ml of extract and post-mordanting with collpa, alum, and lemon salt at boiling temperature. MFD was measured using S-Fiber Med equipment. Colorimetry parameters were obtained using a spectrometer, and FT-IR spectrophotometer was used for identification of functional groups. MFD in colli-dyed and post-mordanted threads significantly increased with the addition of mordants, with the highest change observed with lemon salt (30.09 μm). The same trend was observed for SF.
