One of the most difficult tasks is to define quality. The term has been evolution over the last century to the present. There is no consensus for its conceptualization; however it has been a constant search for diverse organizations and more recently, in the field of education. The emphasis on quality in superior education demands a revision of its definition among different stakeholders from academia to improve educational processes. The measurement of quality is another aspect that deserves attention by the diversity of approaches and therefore difficult to define the parameters for evaluation. The evaluation of educational quality can be internal when the institution evaluates your processes academic or related to these, and on the other hand, the external evaluation that allows access to the accreditation of the degree program or institution as recognition of the quality. Various int...

Most seismic eruption forerunners are described using Volcano-Tectonic earthquakes, seismic energy release, deformation rates or seismic noise analyses. Using the seismic data recorded at Ubinas volcano (Peru) between 2006 and 2008, we explore the time evolution of the Long Period (LP) seismicity rate prior to 143 explosions. We resolve an average acceleration of the LP rate above the background level during the 2-3 hours preceding the explosion onset. Such an average pattern, which emerges when stacking over LP time series, is robust and stable over all the 2006-2008 period, for which data is available. This accelerating pattern is also recovered when conditioning the LP rate on the occurrence of an other LP event, rather than on the explosion time. It supports a common mechanism for the generation of explosions and LP events, the magma conduit pressure increase being the most probable ...

This thesis will be oriented in the study of open quantum systems. The transition of processes that go between the Markovian and non-Markovian regime will be studied. The diagnose of non-Markovianity will be made in terms of the variation of the coherence of the state. Accordingly, an optical setup will be implemented that allows us to manipulate certain degrees of freedom, like the polarization and the optical path. Theoretically, we have found that the coherence of the system is transferred to the environment and it decreases as we move a parameter that we will take as time. This situation has been confirmed in the experiment. Then, due to the second part of the setup, which produces a non-Markovian evolution by also changing one of its parameters, we have accomplished the goal of returning the information back into the system and to measure the non-Markovianity of the process.

This article reviews the evolution of the surgical treatment of breast cancer, from radical mastectomy to extremeoncoplastic surgery. Through this progression, radical axillary dissection has also been substantially transformed. Therefore,we present the de-escalation process of axillary dissection, highlighting sentinel lymph node biopsy as the most widely accepted standard of care in cases with clinically negative nodes and negative sentinel nodes. This is because it has demonstrated comparable outcomes in terms of disease-free survival, overall survival, and low local recurrence rates when comparing axillary dissection with sentinel lymph node biopsy alone in randomized patient groups. Additionally, recent studies show that axillary dissection after neoadjuvant therapy and radiotherapy may be omitted in specific cases of patients with clinically positive nodes or positive sentinel node...

Purpose: The main goal of this paper is to examine the evolution of Latin American productive integration in terms of the regional value added incorporated in intra-regional exports of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru. In addition, the study traces the trade and productive integration trajectories for each of these countries from 1995 to 2015. Design/methodology/approach: Based on the use of OECD’s global ICIO input-output tables, this paper applies the methodological framework by Wang et al. (2018) for the analysis of trade flows at the bilateral level, which allows breaking down the value of gross exports of each sector-country, depending on the origin of the value added contained in exports, as well as their use. Findings: The estimates show very low shares of value added from regional partners in the intra-regional exports of the countries studied. Conversely, th...

In recent years, the district of Huánuco has presented a population growth of 1.05%, through a forced settlement on unstable areas, increasing vulnerability to extreme events. The shape of the earth’s surface can be considered as resulting from an evolutionary system within time scales. Therefore, it is intended to analyze by means of digital image processing, mass removal volume using ALOS PALSAR satellite images (2006-2019) and Landsat 5 EMT and 8 OLI (1987-2018), to establish a relationship between the evolution of the landscape and the occurrence of landslides through topographic profiles. Finally, it was possible to demonstrate the difference between means of the evolution of the slide of the Tingoragra creek in the district of Huánuco (2006-2019), according to the intensity classification based on the volume by landslides (222,129,497 m³) to establish a risk analysis.

The analysis of the evolution of modal properties and its relationship with changes in environmental properties (i.e. ambient temperature and relative humidity) is of high importance since their effects along time can mask the influence of structural damage. While structural monitoring studies to assess the relationship between modal parameters and environmental conditions are abundantly available for modern materials constructions (i.e. concrete or steel), very few studies are reported for adobe buildings. The present paper focuses on the study of the short and long-term structural behavior of existing adobe buildings through the long-term monitoring of ambient vibration and environmental conditions. With this purpose, the paper describes in detail the case study of the San Pedro Apostol Church of Andahuaylillas located in Cusco, inside the Andean region of Peru, a 16th-century church c...

Remote sensing is the technology that has enabled us to obtain information about the Earth's surface without directly contacting it. For this reason, currently, the Bolivian state has considered a list of interesting applications of remote sensing in the country, including the following: biodiversity and environment monitoring, mining and geology, epidemiology, agriculture, water resources and land use planning. The use of satellite images has become a great tool for epidemiology because with this technological advance we can determine the environment in which transmission occurs, the distribution of the disease and its evolution over time. In that context, one of the important diseases related to public health in Bolivia is Chagas disease, also known as South American Trypanosomiasis. Chagas is caused by a blood-sucking bug or Vinchuca, which causes serious intestinal and heart long ter...

Calibration of the Nelson-Siegel (NS) model to adjust to sovereign yield curves has been found to be problematic since the model exhibits a correlation between its factors, and generates objective functions with local multiple optima. These problems are often disregarded in the Colombian market, enough importance is not being given to the calibration process. This study aims to evaluate two non-gradient based methods for solving the non-linear least squares problem: the differential evolution metaheuristic and an incremental search procedure on the non-linear parameters. Comparisons of the results are made in terms of the achieved fit, consistency (for the metaheuristic) and the shapes obtained for the curves. The same procedure is carried out on the Nelson-Siegel-Svensson (NSS) model, evaluating the advisability of its use in the local market. Doi: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jefas.2016.0...

This dissertation investigates the potential improvement of volcanic eruption understanding and forecasting methods by using advanced data processing techniques to analyze large datasets at three target volcanoes (Piton de la Fournaise (PdlF) (France), Sabancaya, and Ubinas (Peru)). The central objective of this study is to search for possible empirical relationships between the pre-eruptive behavior of the accelerated increase in seismic activity using the Failure Forecast Method (FFM) and velocity variations measured by Coda Wave Interferometry (CWI), since both observations are reported to be independently associated with medium damage. The FFM is a deterministic method used to forecast volcanic eruptions using an empirical relationship of increased and accelerated evolution of an observable (e.g., volcano-seismic event rates). The event rates used with FFM in this study were generate...

Social networks have become essential means of communication and have modified the concept of political communication, allowing new audiences to continuously track both candidates and parties during different election processes. This paper presents a systematized study of the communication that took place in social media during the first round of the 2022 Costa Rican electoral process (February 6th). The information has been collected from the data available at the Digital Media Communication Observatory of the Universidad Latina de Costa Rica, using the social listening tools Minerva Data, Kantar IBOPE Media’s Adspend and Mention, with the objective of revealing the digital conversation trends in this campaign, an unprecedented electoral process with 25 presidential candidates. The reports from the Digital Communication Observatory show the evolution of the electorate's behavior in te...

The study of the human genome, when performed only through the DNA sequence information, does not completely explain the high level of inter-individual variation usually observed. It is the control of gene expression by the epigenetics what allows to explain those variations of gene expression, as a reversible and hereditary process in the short term under the influence of the environment during various stages of development and adulthood, without modifying the genetic sequence. Epigenetic alterations are already being studied as valuable candidates in the eventual identification of biomarkers. Furthermore, their reversible nature makes them promising factors in the amelioration of disease symptoms through the use of therapeutic approaches. This article explains the epigenetic mechanisms and its relationship with the environment, diet, and its influence on evolution, the occurrence of di...

One of the first phases of cancer is known as angiogenesis by the which are created new blood vessels from the pre-existing one. In this paper, the well-known equation of Fokker-Planck is used to describe the time evolution of the new vessels since their creation until the time that them acquire certain stability. In particular, emphasis is done to the term of drift that encompasses the stochastic character of angiogenesis. Once the theory is proposed, computational simulations are carried out. For this, the Gaussian approach with a time-dependent width is employed. This yields a oscillating scenario of ions due to the repulsion and attraction forces at the events of permeability.
