This article analyzes the negative evolution of the revenues of the European public media and the audience of its television channels between 2010 and 2018. The financial and share data –mainly obtained from the EAO– have been contrasted, at a quantitative level, with homogenizing economic indicators such as PPP; and have been grouped around the models proposed by Hallin and Mancini (2004, 2008, 2013). At a qualitative level, with the interviews of two academics –Tiziano Bonini (University of Siena) and Marko Ala-Fossi (University of Tampere)– and Mika Ojamies, director of international relations at YLE. However, despite the confirmation of this negative trend, there is no correlation between the decline in income and that of the audience. In any case, the Academy evidences the need to develop new financing systems that guarantee the budgetary stability of public media.

This article analyzes the repercussions on journalistic activity of the regulatory measures adopted by the United States and Europe to protect privacy in the use of drones. Similarities and differences between the adopted regulations are evaluated. It is observed that in the United States recommendations are generally chosen, in which drone user´s willingness prevails over third parties´ right to privacy. However, there are exceptions, such as the cases of the states of Texas and California, where the use of drones without proper authorization is considered a violation of the right to privacy. In Europe, the regulations are applicable to all member countries, and the system provides more guarantees, considering the principles of necessity and transparency.

The Brexit referendum is a good example of the particular vulnerability of the European project when fighting disinformation. Therefore, EU institutions have developed a series of initiatives throughout 2018 to define a European strategy to counter disinformation that emphasizes the responsibility of social networks in reporting false content. In addition, given the weakness of the European public sphere, the European institutions support the creation of European networks of fact checkers. This strategy implies the denunciation of lies, rather than the promotion of alternative interpretive frames, which authors like Lakoff (2004) consider an error from a framing point of view. Empirically, we demonstrate through an analysis of the main networks of actors on this matter (academics, foundations, think tanks, media, social network platforms and fact checkers) that there is a dispute to defi...

Research on media coverage of electoral campaigns point to an increasing mediatization. This paper seeks to corroborate whether the trend also takes place in exceptional circumstances, such as those surrounding the regional elections in Catalonia in 2017. The analysis compares the frames observed in six newspapers (El País, El Mundo, La Vanguardia, El Periódico de Catalunya, Punt Avui and Ara) with those adopted by the seven political parties represented in the autonomous parliament (JuntsXCat, ERC, PSC, PP, Ciudadanos, En Comú-Podem and CUP). The results indicate that the symbolic frames characteristic of collective action were dominant in the political discourses, although the media logic once again became hegemonic in global terms.

The goal of this article is to analyze the degree of maturity in the digital transformation of the public relations and communication departments of the companies with the highest turnover that belong to the Spanish Association of Communication Directors-Dircom by applying the model for digital transformation proposed by Westerman, Bonnet and McAfee (2012), based on the vectors of leadership and digital capacity. For this purpose, a questionnaire was sent to those responsible for communication of this type of companies. This research analyses the opinion articles about the COVID-19 published in the main newspapers of Italy, Spain and Germany. To this purpose, a qualitative inductive-deductive content analysis methodology has been used along two complementary phases. The first included the detailed analysis of the sample, and the second involved a method of comparative textual analysis using the Sketch Engine software. The results show the existence of some common issues about the virus, although with different approaches depending on the country: a certain vision marked by national politics in the Spanish case, an interpretative view in the case of Germany and a more social-humanistic perspective in the Italian dailies. A discourse contrary to generating panic is common in the three countries studied, but with a clear underestimation of the virus’ potential consequences in the first couple of months a...
