This article aims to point out that Plato’s criticism of Sophists and rhetoric is not a condemnation of them, but a distance from traditional rhetoric in order to introduce his proposal for a philosophical rhetoric. For this objective, the aim is to: 1) outline the definition of the concepts ‘rhetoric’ and ‘sophistic’, and characterize the principles of ‘sophistic rhetoric’; 2) To address Plato’s criticism of the sophists from the Gorgias, pointing out the arguments with which Plato criticizes the rhetoric and the Sophists; 3) To analyze the dialogical method of the Sophists (eristics) and how it opposes the philosopher’s method (dialectic); 4) Finally, to point out, starting from the Phaedrus, Plato's foundations for the consolidation of a ‘philosophical rhetoric’, that is, of a genuine philosophical dialogue that serves as an overcoming of traditional rhetoric.

At Sophist 260e3-261a2, the Eleatic Stranger claims that in order to demonstrate that falsehood is, he and Theaetetus must first track down what speech (logos), opinion (doxa), and appearance (phantasia) are, and then observe the communion (koin?nia) that speech, opinion, and appearance have with non-being. The Stranger, however, never explicitly discusses the communion of speech, opinion, and appearance with non-being. Yet presumably their communion is implicit in his account of falsehood, given his claim that observing that communion is needed in order to demonstrate that falsehood is (260e5-a2). This essay seeks to make the communion that speech has with non-being explicit. I argue that speech has communion with non-being in that the things and actions speech combines together by means of nouns and verbs need not be combined in a way that reveals (?????) how the being a given speech i...

La presente tesis puede resumirse en siete palabras griegas: ΘΑΛΗΣ· ἐραστής καὶ ἥρως τῆς σοφίας ἐστíν.

For the study of Rhetorics as a criticism of ideology, it proves useful to take a look at sofist Gorgias, standpoint on the issue. He separated shared knowledge from common sense and stated that there is no absolute truth because sensorial impressions are not the same for different individuals in different contexts.

The main reason why the developmental interpretation of the platonic Parmenides believes this dialogue constitutes a crisis in the development of Plato’s thought is the idea that the philosopher criticizes therein its Theory of Ideas of the middle period – Phaedo, Symposium, Republic. The theory supposedly criticized would conceive the Ideas as absolutely simple and isolated unities that, as such, would make impossible the fulfilment of their own function. This would only be possible by a new relational conception of the Ideas introduced in Parmenides and developed in Sophist. In contrast to some scholars who do not even mention certain passages in those dialogues (e.g. Cordero, 2014, 2016), I will show 1) that the notion of koin?nia is essential to the project of the Republic, since its central idea, the notion of justice, is unthinkable without the notion of koin?nia of the Ideas w...

Isocrates was Plato's main rival as school founder. The first part outlines the primordial significance of Isocrates for European "humanism." The second part explains the wide-ranged concepts where with lsocrates grounds his rethoricles son, specially in his programmatic writing, Against Sophists. In the third part is explicated why Isocrates, unlike Plato, places and what that means methodologically. From these premisses the fourth part draws consequences for the understanding of apettí in Isocrates' idea of education, and shows how it prepares Aristotle's ethics.

The aim of this paper is to describe the study of Political Com- munication historiographically, showing its theoretical evolution. Political communication involves thinking of a discipline that has several theoretical approaches and schools of thought that, from the social sciences, politics, communication and sociology, have contributed to the construction of po- litical communication as a new academic discipline. Therefore, this paper seeks to contribute to the current discussions on the origin, definitions and approaches to analysis on political communication, which for many is con- sidered an illegitimate and trivial discipline, but which at the moment is in the center of the study of modern democracies from the remarkable crisis of political representation and political disaffection, the lack of political ideolo- gies and high personalization and especially the new forms of communi...
