The chemical industry has showed steady growth in recent years and, as a result, the rate of intoxication has increased from the use of dangerous substances by employees of manufacturing companies. Therefore, small & medium enterprises (SMEs) in this industry must be committed to ensuring and guaranteeing safe and ergonomic workstations for employees that are mostly exposed to these risks to prevent incidents and reduce rates to a minimum when handling chemicals to produce paints and varnishes, and, at the same time, improve employee motivation and productivity. For this reason, this paper proposes the implementation of a safety management model based on process standardization and 5S for the purpose of promoting best practices in occupational safety and health, thereby reducing the number of intoxications within company grounds through employee collaboration in the improvement and optim...

The general objective of the study was to determine the influence of occupational risk prevention management on the perception of the safety climate in the workers of an SME in the construction sector. It was carried out from the quantitative perspective, with a non-experimental design and explanatory level, for which two ad hoc questionnaires related to each of the variables were applied to a census sample of 20 workers of the organization. The results obtained showed that occupational risk prevention management positively influences the perception of the safety climate in the company's workers (Spearman's Rho coefficient = 0.737 and p<0.05 value). Consequently, it was concluded that the actions carried out by the company in terms of the control of risks and accidents in the workplace have an impact on the perception of workers in terms of safety management, the safety system against...

Cocoa in grain is a tropical fruit considered as a heritage in Ecuador and constitutes 60% of the premium quality in chocolates worldwide, has sensory characteristics unmatched by other producing countries. Manual drying and selection activities contain many occupational hazards, affecting the safety and well-being of the people involved in these tasks, with the ergonomic risk of an intolerable level requiring immediate intervention. This research provides safe automated mechanisms for operations through internationally validated methodologies, without affecting the sensory characteristics.

This article is based on the foundations of the psychological trend called «behaviorism» and the preventive tool called safety based on behavior (SBB). Model behavioral observation applied to safety (BOAS) is a complement for the Management of Occupational Safety and Health, which aims to increase safe behavior of employees in an organization, looking at the short term generate workers attitude change (shown in their behavior) and long term by generating a safety culture that internalizes the worker and adopt as his own, bringing learning taught by the organization to all aspects of their daily lives. During the development of this article the implementation process, maturity and improvement of the Model BOAS is displayed. As the results show the gradual increase in safe behavior of workers in the organization.

In the planning, operation and control of electric power systems as well as in the electric marketsanalysis, some large portions of the electrical networks may be represented by reduced equivalents, thus diminishing the problem's size and easing the computational processing, such as power flow, short circuit analysis, economic dispatch, transient stability, among others, that are routinely performed at the control centers. In this paper are presented the main methods for determining the external equivalents used mainly in the security analysis of interconnected power systems. Are also included the results of security analysis using external equivalentsapplied to the Ward-Hale 6-bus test system, and other application using data of a real system corresponding to a configuration of 313 buses of the interconnected national Peruvian power system (SEIN).

Companies that seek to be differentiated and increase their profitability, including consulting, whose principal asset is knowledge, often implement innovation processes. However, there is a lack of knowledge about how innovation develops in these organizations. This paper aims to show innovation practices in health and safety consulting companies in Bogota?. After comparing several methods to characterize innovation, one that deals with knowledge and its management was selected to develop a descriptive study. The study identified three key aspects of innovation development: creating spaces for informal knowledge exchange, using information technologies to gather knowledge generated in each service, and establishing the registry of excellence to monitor innovation activities and results. These results enable these consulting firms to allocate resources to such actions to improve th...

Influenza pandemics are related to the viral flow of wild and migratory birds, passing to pigs and poultry (intermediate hosts), which would end up infecting humans. Process management through Good Farming Practices for animal production and Animal Welfare should be important preventive measures to avoid this contagion. In coronaviruses and Ebola there are ancestral hosts (such as bats) and intermediate hosts (such as Civettictis civetta or Paradoxurus hermaphroditus for SARS-CoV-1, dromedaries for MERS-CoV, and snakes and Manis javanica for SARS-CoV-2). In its natural state the inter-specie jump would take much longer to occur; however, the existence of wet markets, where animals are traded, would have allowed viruses to find a new host in humans. In addition to pneumonia, the invasion of SARS-CoV-2 produces temporary discomfort, such as diarrhea, due to the abundance of the ACE-2 recep...

Safety is one of the main problems of current tourism worldwide and directly threatening the image of any destination. The media contribute to the formation of this image and provide a perception of security or insecurity. Since the perception of insecurity in Brazil has been one of its main weaknesses, the question arises of how the media influence the formation of the image before a major tourist event. A content analysis on the treatment of tourism security in Brazil was carried out for 16 months prior to the Rio'16 Olympic Games in 1,034 Spanish digital media headlines. It is confirmed an excessively alarmist/sensationalist treatment in tourist topics that are related to the image and the Olympic Games. Although in other tourism areas the news is more flat and descriptive it is noticed that stereotypes of image arise on the occasion of major tourist events.
