Ethnic and racial stereotypes are part of the language that the Peruvian sports press uses in the construction of news. At the same time, such press replicates the complaints of racist events in football. This article refl ects on a methodological strategy to examine the coexistence of both elements in the Peruvian sports press. Taking into account the specific characteristics of this type of press and the particularity of racism in Peru, we detect the need to use a research approach that addresses diff erent dimensions of both textual discourse and discourse as a social, cultural and discursive practice. It is a process that relates three stages of data collection: content analysis, critical discourse analysis and in-depth interviews with discourse producers. Put in dialogue, the results of the three analyzes show that the apparently ...

Nowadays the use of acronyms is of great interest and importance due to the predominance they have in written documents (newspapers, magazines, books, reports, etc.); however, we can also see their use in the mass audiovisual media such as radio and television, in both aspects they are used to identify the names of institutions of all kinds. This use is well reflected in the ability to synthesize and save space in terms of letters and words. In that sense, this study, through a descriptive analysis, is oriented to explain what conditions the use of acronyms as an effective resource, because when they are used or mentioned in headlines they can be unintelligible to the reader or listener due to the lack of awareness of their meaning or of the formal rules applied to their construction, distinguishing their typology. Who writes the news in the Chilean press according to gender? Who are the sources, male or female, in the Chilean press? Is there a relationship between the gender of journalists and the gender of the sources in the Chilean press? This article studies the gender of the Chilean newsroom and their sources in 12,113 news through a quantitative method with a computational social science approach. This method combines web scraping and natural language processing techniques to gather and preprocess data, facilitating the exploration of complex social phenomena. Results show important biases in journalists and source gender. From a sample of 158 journalists, 99 were men (63%) and 59 women (37%). Also, from 12,113 news, 7,565 (62%) were written by male and 4,548 (38%) by female journalists. Of the 12,334 sources mentioned in the news, 9,771 were men (79%) and 2,563 were women (21%). This article analyzes the use of the present subjunctive to express past events in journalistic publications of Peruvian digital newspapers. The aim of the research is to determine whether the favoring of the present subjunctive in the press is influenced by extralinguistic variables such as discursive genre and register. The data have been obtained from 120 digital texts of serious digital newspapers and 30 texts of digital «chicha» newspapers. From a probabilistic analysis, it is concluded that the statistically significant variable is the discursive genre. In addition, informative reports and news are identified as the texts that increase the probability of the use of the present subjunctive.

In the nineties, popular press (also called prensa chicha) became in Peru an important presence in the communication sphere. During this period, this presence was linked to relations of clientelism and subordination formed with Fujimori’s government. Nevertheless, this presence remains important after all these years, even after many changes in government. Our research looks to describe from a semiotic perspective those enunciative characteristics forged and consolidated during that period. Our research aims to outline a description of enunciative strategies more than a content analysis, in order to establish the configuration of the reading contract in this press. We have followed a semiotic approach of enunciation understanding it as a representation: a represented enunciation. Through the analysis of the most read journals in this period (Ojo, Extra, and Ajá), we have established t...

The increased cultural activity in Peru within the last years requires a media complement that contributes to advance in this sector and educate the public. In addition: culture, education and economy are key factors for social development and media must assume their responsibility by not just emitting informative messages, but also instructive, critic and orientated ones. According to academic and operatic music specialists and professionals, cultural journalism in Peru is not fully developed: in many situations great importance events are omitted and in others only trivial aspects are published. In that sense, to address such issues information professionals require a constant preparation and a high sense of ethics so they build a solid section with useful information for the public.

One of the key factors in the maturation of modern Journalism, during the 20th century, has been the evolution of Journalism Genres, especially in the Press. Their domain allowed the appropriately diffusion of data, opinions and analysis into informative, opinion and interpretative texts that respected different styles, but also complementary, if one takesVinto account the overall content of a publication. Within Latin American Journalism, this intention has resulted in tripartite classifications. Currently, the Press interrelates with the new communication platforms (contained in the changing spectrum of Digital Journalism) that constantly used multimedia Internet resources, the immediacy of virtual social networks and the Microblogging. Within this scenario, Journalism Genders take a new importance in Print Media (newspapers, supplements, journalistic magazines, among others), setting ...

This research paper analyzes the Bolivian media coverage of the presidential runoff of the 2021 General Elections in Peru, in which the candidates participated: Pedro Castillo and Keiko Fujimori. The main objective was to study the frames that El Diario and La Razón used in the journalistic articles of their web portals. Likewise, we identified the digital space given to the publications and recognized the profiles that the foreign press built around each candidate. From a mixed approach, we analyzed metrics and used qualitative tools to examine the use of level and generic framing. To do so, we focused on the media with the highest readership in La Paz and analyzed 34 web articles that were published between April 12 and June 6, 2021. The results show that 44% were journalistic products lacking depth in which less than 400 words were used; 35% presented confrontational frames; 43% refe...

Presidential elections are a space of broad public debate, a vent of ideological passions, confrontation of ideas, among other aspects that we can find thanks to the press diffusing role, responsible for describing occurred events. It is important to point out that newspapers played a central role, especially during pre-electoral contexts or in actual elections, either to forge the image for or against a candidate. On this matter, information contrast from various newspapers and even the memories of prefects, witnesses of the time among other sources, allowed us to approach reality objectively and thus demystify the so-called Aristocratic Republic (1899-1919) labeled by some historians as a space of social and political stability. On the contrary, what is exposed in the press shows us a time of great tension and confrontation at the dawn of the 20th century. An example is 1899 presidenti...

If Galicia is nowadays considered a historical community, along with Catalonia and Basque Country, is because Galicia approved, in referendum, its first Statute of Autonomy in 1936. That first Statutory text was presented by Castelao and other intellectuals and politicians to the President of Spain on July the 15th 1936. However the burst of Spanish Civil War, just three days later, prevented the discussions in Court and it was not until 43 years later (1979) when Galicia made its autonomist dream come true. The purpose of this research is to analyze how this autonomist phenomenon was approached by the existingpublications in the province of Lugo during the Second Spanish Republic.
