As a translator, a witness, and a litigant, Guaman Poma well serves to describe the implementation of Spanish administrative and juridical institutions in colonial Peru. In lettered texts, as well as in black andwhite drawings found in his Nueva Corónica, Guaman Poma references the paper artifacts of Spanish juridical processes in his project to preserve native Andean cultural practices and properties. This essay examines his knowledge of legal processes, legal formats, and his program for a legacy of justice in the Andes. In closely studying exemplary texts such as the writ of amparo, cédula (decree) and permuta (exchange), Guaman Poma uses Spanish law for his Andean purposes. With attention to previous research by Adorno, Quispe-Agnoli, de la Puente Luna, and Burns, this study examines concepts of European law and history deemed advantageous for native Andeans.

This paper follows the political life of documents produced in relation to a World Bank-funded road engineering technical study in the Peruvian Andes. By contrast with Weber’s emphasis on documents as instruments of rationalisation and transparency, and the more recent focus on documents as aesthetic artefacts and instances of institutional form, I attend to the ambiguous political processes enacted through document flows. I suggest that the ways in which project documents circulated, accumulating multiple connotations as they travelled, generated not clarity, but rather increasing indeterminacy, arguing that their political quality had to do precisely with their dual character, calling up at once normativity (and its promise of justice and order) and the play of unscrupulous «interests». Mr. Editor: We read with interest the article "Barriers to safe abortion under Peruvian law" published in the latest issue of its magazine (1). The article is in English version in Scielo-Peru, and in Spanish and English on the website of the magazine. In this regard we analyze the version published in English and found a translation error in two paragraphs that change the meaning of the statement in the article, and suggest the commission of crimes in public hospitals in Peru. Este estudio tiene como objetivo validar las propiedades psicométricas de una herramienta de recopilación de datos para explorar si la relevancia de la investigación en gestión empresarial es una construcción de alto orden compuesta por su interés percibido y su relevancia percibida. Los autores realizaron un análisis factorial confirmatorio para validar una escala de dos factores. La muestra estuvo compuesta por 148 estudiantes de MBA de una escuela de negocios peruana. Los resultados mostraron los niveles apropiados de validez y confiabilidad y confirmaron la utilidad de este conjunto de datos para explorar la relación entre el interés percibido y la relevancia. The mechanics of unsatured soils are strongly related to the suction phenomenon that occurs between solid soil particles, which change when the water content of the soil does not remain constant. The soil-water characteristic curve (SWCC) provides information related to soil suction and water content; and to obtain said curve, different direct and indirect methods can be used. In this research, the soil-water characteristic curve for sand is obtained by implementing the filter paper test. For this, three reconstituted samples of sandy soils from Lima - Peru (relative density between 20% and 60%) were tested following the wet trajectory of the curve. Objective: To describe bibliography source characteristics that support published investigations in Peruvian biomedical journals. Design: Bibliometric study. Setting: Faculty of Medicine, Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Lima, Peru. Bibliographic material: Scientific articles published during 2005-2008 identified in SciELO Peru’s database. El presente proyecto de investigación experimental se efectuó tomando como fundamentos la innovación de materiales sustentables, técnicas y procesos constructivos. Para ello se decidió involucrar al papel reciclado como un posible material del concreto para uso estructural. El concreto y el papel, combinados reciben el nombre de Papercrete. Se trabajó con distintas proporciones de papel reciclado (50%, 70%, 90% y 100%) que reemplazaron parte del agregado grueso de la mezcla de concreto. The article presents the results obtained in the structural, physical and chemical characterization of the stubble fiber of the pineapple harvest (Ananas Comosus) Golden as an alternative to elaborate paper. The biometric properties of the fibers were determined (length and diameter, wall thickness and lumen diameter), to later obtain the pulp quality indexes for paper, as well as the percentages of cellulose, Holocellulose and lignin, according to the TAPPI Standards for each component and the Jayme-Wise method.
