The relict forests of the west slopes of the Andes of northern Peru and southern Ecuador form part of the Tumbesian Endemic Bird Area (characterized by dry forests) and at higher altitudes the Southern Central Andes Endemic Bird Area (characterized by cloud forests and paramo). The Tumbesian Region is recognized for its high level of endemic birds, many of which are threatened and also for the high level of deforestation and fragmentation of its natural habitats. This article presents an overview of the state of conservation of these birds and forests, with recommendations for improving the conservation of the last forests of the western slope.

The situation of the production of cocoa in the province of Manabi (Ecuador) is presented, together with its development possibilities with the introduction of a sustainable cultural revaluation policy. Cocoa producers generally carry out their activities in rural areas and urban peripheries where living conditions are often precarious; each productive unit (farm) has an approximately extension of five hectares, and 90% of their maintenance is carried out by the family. The objective of this research was to identify the different groups of producers, based on their motivations, for the production of cocoa in the north central area of Manabi, Ecuador. The work comprised two stages: (1) exploratory, where data from official bodies was processed on the ARC GIS software; (2) field work, in which a Likert scale questionnaire was used. The sample is made up of 196 cocoa producers. The research...

Based on ceramic and architectural evidence collected from the archaeological complex of Campanario, we identify this site as the political and religious center in the valley of Huarmey around AD 1000. In this article we discuss the activity areas of Campanario and present detailed description of a local style of ceramic which we are calling the Campanario Style. Artifacts and features from surface contexts have allowed us to reconstruct the occupational history and site chronology of Campanario. The results of our analyses have furthered our understanding of the type of sociopolitical organization operating in the Huarmey Valley during the Late Intermediate Period (AD 900-1400).

This article discusses the settlements involved in agricultural expansion on the north side of the Moche Valley between the 5th and 8th centuries AD. While the characteristics of the Moche occupation in this area are not completely known, they do yield important data about irrigation systems, road networks, as well residential and monumental architecture. Furthermore, the local material culture, particularly pottery, serves to create a relative chronology of the sector. In this study, which is based on sites survey and excavations in various locations in the Lower Moche Valley, we revise proposals regarding a long-term relation between the north side of the lower valley and processes of political centralization in the area around the Huacas de Moche. Specifically, we focus on the history of a series of communities and ceremonial centers within a landscape that acquired a new role for all...

Current data from the site of Cerro Lampay (an architectural compound of the Late Archaic Period) provide new insights on the architectural design that characterizes the early complex societies of the north central coast. Excavations at this site have provided a detailed record of the major traits that can be found in a typical architectural compound that correspond to the Late Archaic Period in this region. The analysis of the spatial structure and the sensorial experience of the architecture of Cerro Lampay suggest a scenario of a human community in which leaderships were emerging whereas dual principles of social organization were also appearing. The results of these analyses are compared with recent finds on other neighboring sites such as Caral, in order to propose new perspectives to understand the rise of social complexity in the Central Andes.

I present in this article the results of survey and mapping at sites with early monumental architecture in the Middle Fortaleza Valley. Architecture provisionally assigned to the Late Archaic period is analyzed, and some hypotheses on its development are proposed. The Fortaleza sites are then compared with other ones throughout the North Central Coast. I propose that the architectural complexes in this region seem to correspond to local-range sociopolitical entities, instead of large, regional polities. Finally, I conclude with some thoughts on new theoretical perspectives to understand the origins and development of such entities.

Los Morteros (5726-5041 cal yrs. BP) is an archaeological site located in Pampa de las Salinas, in the lower Chao Valley, on the northern Peruvian coast. This site includes several phases. One of these belongs to the construction of an adobe-brick monumental building dating 5400-5100 yrs. BP. Excavations carried out in 2017, uncovered a context comprised of burnt areas containing marine animal bones, shells, charcoal, articulated human skeletons, and commingled human bones. This context is interpreted as the remains of an offering related to the closing event of the adobe-brick monumental structure. This interpretation is based on the conjunction of osteological, contextual, and radiocarbon analysis. The closing event of the adobe-brick monumental structure, of which this offering is part, contributed to the construction social and ritual significance at Los Morteros, located inside the ...

In an fast-paced world like that of these days, in which information and knowledge change in thousandths of seconds, and therefore education at all levels must adapt to this. Teachers, who are at the center, must carry out all their activities urgently due to media pressure in their environment, the pressure from authorities, coworkers and even their students. This can lead to stress over time, that is why this research focused on relating stress and psychosocial factors in teachers from Latin America, North America and Europe, involving in a non-probabilistic sample n = 81 teachers from different countries, at basic education and university levels. The Teaching Scale (ED-6 α = 0.932) and the Questionnaire of Psychosocial Factors at Academic Work (FPSIS α = 0.916) were used for the data collection, with a non-experimental, correlational, cross-sectional to quantitative approach des...

This paper seeks to analyze the geopolitical causes of the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (TLCAN / NAFTA) until the generation of the new United States Mexico Canada Agreement (T-MEC / USMCA). We consider that the advance of China within the supply chains that enter the geographic area of North America, the existing asymmetries in the productive structures of Mexico and its two northern partners, as well as the new protectionist tendencies in the United States generated the conditions for the renegotiation of the agreement, which creates incentives to prioritize the production of industrial material within the USMCA space against competition from Chinese products. We will do a discussion about the favorable and unfavorable aspects for the implementation of the new agreement and the new perspectives on its possible impact on the automotive industry, which was one...
