Informal mining in the Peruvian highlands, particularly in La Rinconada, Puno, Peru, shapes an urban environment that reinforces the exclusion of women from public spaces. This article uses a right-to-the-city approach and gender-sensitive urbanism to analyze how the spatial configuration of the city—characterized by precarity and the absence of the state—limits women’s access to essential services, safety, and participation. Based on participant observation and interviews, the research shows how informal mining dynamics and structural violence restrict women’s mobility and relegate them to subordinate roles within the community. Despite this hostile context, the article suggests that transformation is possible through self-organization, community mobilization, and the recognition of care work. Drawing on examples of women’s collectives in other Latin American cities, it argues...

Peru is one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change. Even if the effects of this phenomenon are uncertain and unpredictable, but we can affirm that the increasing temperatures of the earth have impacts on the melting of glaciers and the alteration of the water cycle, in addition to its impact on extreme climate events and conflicts over water use. Even when it is stated that we are one of the richest in freshwater at regional level, the availability of this resource is uneven, and the coastal area represents the most demanding but the one that offers the least freshwater supply, generating a situation of pressure over water resources. This article has a very ambitious goal, since it aims to summarize the main implications of Climate Change in the availability of water for the mining and energy sectors, outlining some options for action in order to meet the challenge of a water ...

According to the institutions (the International Financial Corporation - IFC and World Bank - WB) that regulate population resettlement and are in charge of issuing population resettlement standards, and, according to the entities that enforce these regulations, in theory, resettlements have to take place only when they are “necessary”. However, several cases has shown that what is necessary for mining projects developers differs from what is really necessary for their future neighbours - the population to be resettled. The argument of the political necessity of carrying out mining projects, almost instantaneously, annihilates any alternatives for a population to-be-displaced. This situation has revealed true power that is attributed to a mining company. By implementing a mining project, a mining company becomes the manager of the future of a community, hence of its present....

This work, in synthesis, is about the exercise of good corporate management practice. The systematic nature of administration, alignment, strategy and skills in the metal mining sector in peru, influence of the Resource and Capacity development theory. We also deal with the value chain, competitive advantages, strategies and skills in the metal mining activity and mining strata. From the development of these points, we set up as conclusions that all formal, legal or illegal strata coexist somehow because the legal ones can export all production. On the other hand, it is required a strategy, promotion, planning and specialized professional leadership in this industry. At the same time, it is required that the government support all this effort and the centers of technical and vocational training in geology, mining, metallurgy, chemistry and related competences define and design formation ...

Global consumption continues to generate growth in mining. In lesserdeveloped economies, this growth offers the potential to generate newresources for development, but also creates challenges to sustainabilityin the regions in which extraction occurs. This context leads todebate on the institutional arrangements most likely to build synergiesbetween mining, livelihoods, and development, and on the socio-politicalconditions under which such institutions can emerge. Buildingfrom a multiyear, three country program of research projects, Peru, aglobal center of mining expansion, serves as an exemplar for analyzingthe effects of extractive industry on livelihoods and the conditionsunder which arrangements favoring local sustainability might emerge. This program is guided by three emergent hypotheses in human environmentalsciences regarding the relationships among institutions, knowledge, learnin...

This article explores the intersections of gender and power in the Peruvian Andes where local populations are affected by large-scale mining operations framed within extractivist and patriarchal structures. Aiming to develop an ethnographic reflection on queerness in research the study highlights the challenges of negotiating multiple positionalities through the lens of qualitative fieldwork experience. The article reflects on the methodological strategies employed to address tensions and patriarchal power dynamics in the field, offering new perspectives on ethnographic research in regions where the control of bodies and territories is contested due to mining activity.

The presence of mining in Peru is an essential factor in economic development. In this context, this document aims to apply lichens in mining in high Andean areas of Peru and establish a relationship between mining development and the application of lichens as bioindicators of s pollution. The studies revealed the effectiveness of lichens as bioaccumulator of metals such as lead, zinc, cadmium, nickel, copper, mercury, and chromium. Likewise, the existence of methodologies for heavy metal analysis was verified, and the environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM), was the most useful in the studies reviewed. Keywords: bioindicator – heavy metals – lichens – mining – pollution

The study allows an immersion within the scientific research process in that it presents a qualitative approach by achieving the construction of knowledge based on the rigor of the lines of analysis represent both illegal logging and mining for proper social development and the implementation of national security policies, as pollution rates and areas have increased in recent years pollution rates and areas of ecosystem alteration have increased in recent years, areas where these practices are conducted outside the law. So the main objective is to identify the effects of both illegal activities for the articulation of strategies to counter the damage caused in the environment, but especially on the most vulnerable populations. In this context, a call is made to the integral consciousness of these illicit operators, whose actions deserve to be punished rigorously. A way to deal with these ...

Mining activities are associated with the influence of external and internal factors. Companies have no control over external factors, such as the supply and demand of metals; however, internal factors, such as the optimization and management of their processes, are the responsibility of their managers and supervisors. Costs are the result of continuous improvement, process management, occupational safety management, environmental care, and social relations. In this context, it is necessary to have an adequate cost model. This research aims to show the construction of a new model for cost management in an underground mine that facilitates monitoring, control, and decision making in daily operations, called "MOGECOMS". One of the reports generated from the model is by 'cost center'. It presents the budget for December, the execution for December and the deviation for December, where the d...

Barrick Misquichilca mining company - Pierina Unit, in the process of closure is finding optimal processes, which will improve performance at low cost and with the less environmental impact. In this context, aluminum is evaluated to replacement zinc in the Merrill Crowe process, a series of experimental tests were conducted and it was determined that it is not necessary the presence of neither free cyanide nor vacuum pump for the reaction to occur. All information obtained was analyzed and processed, the results show consistent, representative values and reported good results. The best result was obtained at pH 11.5, an addition of aluminum powder of 0.25 g / l (55 kg for a flow of 220 m3 / h) without deaeration, with 0.023 ppm and 0.041 ppm of silver and gold grades in the Barren solution respectively.

The regulation of mining easement in Peru has sparked debate regarding its impact on property rights. While expropriation for mining purposes cannot be implemented under the current constitutional framework, article 37 of the Consolidated Text of the General Mining Law, which allows it to be requested, has not been expressly repealed. In this context, mining easement emerges as an apparent alternative for mining concessionaires to request access to the land of those who hold surface rights within their concession. However, its application is very unlikely in practice due to procedural complexity, landowner opposition, and regulatory unpredictability. This paper examines the current legal framework of mining easement and its relationship with expropriation, analyzing the key differences between these legal figures and their impact on private property. Furthermore, it reviews the main doctr...

The most distinguished anthropological studies on risk have a common characteristic: peasant agriculture. Anthropologists delight in pointing to the "institutional context" (Wolf 1969; XV) and the farming techniques used by peasants to reduce the chances of crop failure and market uncertainties. A partial list of such techniques includes: inter-row planting, plot dispersal, and planting of different species or varieties of the same crop. Social mechanisms to reduce uncertainty include patron-client relationships, sharecropping, redistribution of land and crops, reciprocity in food and labor, and strategic marriage alliances.

Purpose: This study aims to provide preliminary information to the investor by determining which indices co-movement, with the data mining method. Design/methodology/approach: In this context, data sets containing daily opening and closing prices between 2001 and 2019 have been created for 11 stock market indexes in the world. The association rule algorithm, one of the data mining techniques, is used in the analysis of the data. Findings: It is observed that the US stock market indices take part in the highest confidence levels between association rules. The XU100 stock index co-movement with both the European stock market indices and the US stock indices. In addition, the Hang Seng Index (HSI) (Hong Kong) takes part in the association rules of all stock market indices. Originality/value: The important issue for data sets is that the opening/closing values of the same day or the previous...
