This work describes and evaluates the application of a module to increase the specific abilities set in action when students resolve math problems. Such abilities are: analyzing the problem, identifying and laying out strategies, applying algorithms and revising the process that leads to the solution. The module presents problems solved by the teacher (modelling strategies) and uses the work of peers in order to consolidate and evaluate the work. The study uses a quasi experimental design with two pre defined groups, pre and post test. The sample was not probabilistic and was formed by 70 students. A test with 10 math problems was used as the instrument meant for the students to use the four strategies suggested in the module. Results show a difference in favor of the experimental group, which allows us to conclude that the module has an influence in the evaluated abilities.

Three hundred fifty-seven university records of students reported as undergoing academic problems were studied between Abril 1990 and August 1996. Research was aimed at determining the contributing factors to the problem and also at designing academic support programs and psychopedagogical support actions, and others on a preventive basis. Three study areas were selected: intelligence, as assessed through the WAIS test; personality as assessed through both the GuilfordZimmerman Temperament and the MMPI Inventories; and study habit, through Brown’s Study Abilities Survey.

OBJECTIVES: To analyze the labour of a multidisciplinary work group in preparing of an instrument for asssessing the performance of students during work sessions of the teaching strategy tenned ProblemBased Leming (PBL), as well some methods useful for previos assessment of instrument and its results, in order to prepare the questionnaire for its statistical assessment. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Four critical areas were taken into account: Characteristics and organization of both the work group and the instrument to be prepared, appearance validity or content validity, clarity validity, and the labour of the group after the factorial analysis. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: A work group for development of an academic assessment instrument must include people willing to team-working and coordinators expert in this field; enough time, new skills development and thoroughly reviews are required for a...

This article seeks to explain the problem of literacy in Peru (1); it focuses on the lack of information regarding how children learn or acquire writing skills, which allows initial literacy. It proposes to universities and educational institutes to incorporate into their curricula a closest approach to child development, specifically the period of the first seven years, crucial in the reader and writer training. Also, it invokes to decline traditional practices, which determine the failure of active and reflective readers from initial education and explain in part why the university and Peruvian professionals read little or write short texts. Along this line, it outlines the difficulties of the student to use writing as a personal way of processing information and as a tool to interact with their environment. In the last section there is a list of the concepts and processes that should ...

The social programs to combat poverty have been under permanent observation both by the beneficiaries of these programs and by the criticism they received for the political use that was given to them. Two major issues aroused interest in the study of these programs. First, because, despite the investment from the public treasury and the contributions from international cooperation for the strategy to combat poverty, the problems that persisted showed the poor focus of the investment, the loss of objectives, the leaking of aid and the dispersion of the programs, in addition to the serious problems of administration of the resources. Second, because reelectionist political campaigns were associated with the intensification and expansion of food support for urban and rural populations.

In this paper we consider the nonlinear transmission problem for the wave equation with time dependent coefficients and linear internal damping. We prove global existence and exponential decay of solution. The result is achieved by considering energy like - Lyapunov functionals and suitable unique continuation theorem for the wave equation.

This paper addresses «El problema argentino de la lengua», an article published by Amado Alonso in 1932. To this end, we first analyze the type of theoretical and critical intervention that the author carries out; then, we consider it within a broader textual series that comprises a set of texts published between 1927, as Alonso becomes chair of the Institute of Philology of the University of Buenos Aires, and 1935, when he publishes the book El problema de la lengua en America, which includes a highly modified version of his 1932 work. We conclude that this article is an exceptional text in Alonso’s linguistic production as a whole, and that this exceptionality can be interpreted as a sign of the process of theoretical reformulation that he underwent during the period.

A central concern of the Archbishop of Mexico José Lanciego Eguilaz was the deficiency that the Indians had in the knowledge of Christian doctrine, considering that this endangered the salvation of their souls. The Tridentine Church and the provincial councils entrusted this task to the priests, who, however, did not always fulfill it. Then, the archbishop issued short and medium-term measures to solve the problem: decrees for each parish or doctrine, reinforcement in the training of future priests and a parish reorganization. In this way, the prelate dedicated himself to improving the parochial instances for a better teaching of the doctrine to the Indians.

In the present study, we will analyze the socioeconomic characteristics of households in relation to the dwellings they occupy in the regions of Arequipa and Piura, based on information from the National Household Survey (ENAHO, INEI, 2004-2017). We have selected these departments because, due to their population concentration and socioeconomic dynamics, they are representative of the housing problem in the country. We also consider that the housing policy through the MiVivienda and Techo Propio programs has had an important development in the regions in the last years, in general the beneficiaries of this last program, oriented to the social sectors C and D, are concentrated in provinces (Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation (MVCS), 2015). From this frame of reference we will address the housing situation in the Arequipa and Piura regions, especially its impact on the qualit...
