A bibliographic review was done to update and systematize information on Toxocara human infection. Transmission mechanisms, epidemiology, clinical forms, diagnostic methods and treatment are described. Its importance as an infectious cause of blindness in young people that is potentially preventible and curable by early diagnosis is emphasized. Proposal is done to establish epidemiological surveillance, improve current laws to reduce transmission risk to the general population and increase knowledge on this infection in Peru.

We report 30 cases of tuberculosis of the breast observed among 1,023 male and female patients who consulted at the National Institute of Neoplastic Diseases with the presumption of being carriers of mammary tumors. Tuberculosis of the breast in our study represents 2.94 percent of all breast lesions. The disease has been observed in all ages, most frequently between 30 and 40 years; 67 percent of cases was included in this decade. The clinical course of the disease goes through the stages of nodule, skin adhesion and fistula, with or without lymphadenopathy. From the viewpoint of differential diagnosis with carcinoma of the breast, it is possible to distinguish two periods: an initial one which shares many of the physical signs of carcinoma, and other subsequent, very characteristic that identifies with the stage of fistula and which can make the correct diagnosis. Este trabajo tuvo como objetivos, determ inar la incidencia de hidatidosis en la población del Valle del M antaro; precisar cuál es la técnica adecuada, con menores complicaciones y más usada para el tratam iento de quistes hidatídicos tanto en pulmón como hepático. The association between leptospiral infection and reproductive problems in ewes from a large sheep enterprise in Junin, Peru, was evaluated in a Case-Control study during the breeding season of 2003. Serum samples from 2-10 year-old ewes with abortion or infertility problems (Case group, n = 220) and from ewes without reproductive problems (Control group, n = 220) were collected for the detection of antibodies against Leptospira serovar: pomona, hardjo, canicola, icterohaemorrhagiae, grippotyphosa, wolffi, ballum and bratislava by the microscopic agglutination test. The prevalence of Leptospira sp. was 24.8 ± 4.6%, corresponding 28.6 ± 7.0% to the Case group and 20.9 ± 5.9% to the Control group. El objetivo del presente estudio fue describir las percepciones de los usuarios respecto a la consejería brindada en los Centros Referenciales para la atención de las Infecciones de Transmisión Sexual (CERITS), aplicando un diseño combinado de tipo cuanti- cualitativo. La población de estudio estuvo conformada por 144 usuarios: 72 Hombres que hacen Sexo con Hombres (HSH) y 72 Trabajadores Sexuales (TS) y consejeros de seis CERITS de Lima y Callao. Las enfermedades asociadas a la atención en el sector salud es una problemática que no solo implica a los pacientes que ingresan al servicio, si no al personal y a los estudiantes que llevan a cabo sus prácticas en las diferentes instituciones. Las infecciones intrahospitalarias están definidas como: “Enfermedades localizadas o sistémicas que resultan de una reacción adversa consecuente a la exposición a un agente infeccioso o a sus toxinas, sin evidencia que la infección estuviera presente o en periodo de incubación en el momento de la atención” . La falta de conocimientos por parte del personal y estudiantes de las ciencias de la salud que están en contacto con los pacientes, además de la realización de prácticas sanitarias sin tomar en cuenta las medidas de bioseguridad pertinentes son los principales motivos para contraer una infección nosocomial.

The diseases associated with care in the health sector is a problem that not only involves patients who enter the service, but also the staff and students who carry out their practices in the different institutions. In-hospital infections are defined as: "Localized or systemic diseases resulting from an adverse reaction resulting from exposure to an infectious agent or its toxins, with no evidence that the infection was present or in the incubation period at the time of care." The lack of knowledge on the part of the personnel and students of the health sciences that are in contact with the patients, in addition to the realization of sanitary practices without taking into account the pertinent biosecurity measures are the main reasons for contracting a nosocomial infection.
