Abstract. The present article aims to present a reflection, within the Ibero-American context, on the use of digital resources in the classroom and its relationship with media education to highlight common points and diverse strategies in addressing both aspects in education systems, as well as to establish the main challenges for a real media education that could take advantage of new technologies in the classroom. Media literacy, or educommunication, has audiovisual literacy as one of its dimensions. This has always been promoted for application in schools and civil society, however, there are not many studies on its application in the university setting. Therefore, this research aims to study audiovisual literacy applied in communication faculties in Latin America through the teaching of the documentary genre. A qualitative approach was used through semi-structured interviews with teachers from educational institutions in nine countries in the region. The results obtained show that, although curricula do not explicitly address it, teachers and students carry out this literacy at different levels and depths, which is why an initial typology is proposed consisting of audiovisual literacy: by genre, intergeneric, transversal, and instrumental.

The university is faced with tensions and demands resulting from the transformations that society demands. The new public management (NGP) imposes new paradigms as far as university administration is concerned. Culture and national identity are key aspects of the social and economic development of a country. Consequently, cultural communication promotes the processes linked to artistic activities and cultural manifestations that allow preserving the values of a nation and contribute to human and social development, creating a full awareness of the importance of cultural diversity at local, national, and international levels. Little is known about contemporary research on communication in Latin America and, in particular, in Peru. Existing studies show the impact that current research policies have had in academia, the heterogeneity of topics covered, the distance between training and research, the development of research groups, and the type of topics of interest. In order to start an analysis of the scientific production of communication research in Peru, this study offers a descriptive bibliometric approach to the research of students and teachers of the University of Lima’s Faculty of Communication, one of the oldest in the country. The results show the impact of regulatory frameworks on the development of research, the importance of research groups in developing indexed publications and the type of topics that have been addressed.

El discurso populista ha encontrado en las redes sociales en un gran aliado para la difusión de mansajes. La presente investigación tuvo la finalidad de analizar el impacto de los mensajes políticos de corte populista en las redes sociales Facebook y Twi!er entre jóvenes electores de la ciudad de Lima. La investigación-acción, proveniente de las ciencias sociales, es una metodología participativa y aplicable a cualquier problema de gestión empresarial. No obstante, es poco conocida en ingeniería. Access to information is a fundamental right that becomes relevant in the case of television, especially public television, due to its mission of public service and social inclusion. Guaranteeing access for people with disabilities to audiovisual content is essential to achieve the objectives of quality of life and full equality of opportunities.
