The rise of the digital age has presented a significant challenge for social science research methods to adapt. Among the numerous theoretical and methodological approaches under discussion, this article examine the current situation of studies that use digital ethnography as an approach in Ibero-America. From a bibliometric method the objective is to analyze publications indexed in renowned global and regional databases, such as Scopus, Latindex and Web of Science. The purpose is to identify the approaches, influential figures and conceptual frameworks predominant in this area today. The results reveal that, despite its effectiveness in analyzing digital communities and relationships between users, digital ethnography needs to consolidate its epistemological foundations in the Ibero-American context. A marked use of theoretical contributions from outside the region is observed. However,...

Abstract. The present article aims to present a reflection, within the Ibero-American context, on the use of digital resources in the classroom and its relationship with media education to highlight common points and diverse strategies in addressing both aspects in education systems, as well as to establish the main challenges for a real media education that could take advantage of new technologies in the classroom. The methodology used for this purpose is mainly based on a systematic review of the literature on the subject performed between the years 2012 and 2018. Moreover, the article addresses some of the results of the “Citizen’s media competencies in emerging digital media in university environments” project (2016-2019) from the National Research, Development and Innovation (I+D+I) Plan of the Spanish Government. Additionally, it presents reflections from experts in media c...

Quinine, present in the bark of the cinchona tree, native to the South American Andes, is one of the natural medicines that has saved more lives in the history of humanity. Its economic importance, as a treatment for malaria, generated a search for its synthetic route. This promoted the development of organic synthesis and marked the beginning of industrial organic chemistry. Quinine, a compound so connected not only with the history of Peru but also with that of organic synthesis, was highlighted in the XXII Ibero-American Chemistry Olympiad-2017.

The author exposes the critical situation of the state jurisdiction against the resolution of intersubjective conflicts and the distrust and insecurity that citizens have regarding the operation of said jurisdiction; it exhibits against the position the fundamentals and the merit of arbitration as an effective heteronomous means of conflict resolution; and analyzes, in the light of the Latin American political constitutions, some of the most relevant problems that hinder its development, among which the lack of recognition as a jurisdiction and the absence of autonomous enforceability and coercibility of the precautionary measures and of the award stand out. It also explains and weighs the foundations of arbitration, to conclude in an apology of said institution and reaffirm the unavoidable need for its empowerment as a private jurisdiction in the face of the crisis of legal security, co...

Discursive translation allows us to explain how discourses, genres, or formats are transferred and adapted from an existing medium to an emerging one. To verify this phenomenon, the present research focused on studying this process in journalistic coverage of Ibero-American film festivals. Therefore, the objective is to describe the development of the methods of discursive translation and hybridisation of journalistic genres applied to reporting on film festivals in Ibero-America. Regarding the methodology, a qualitative approach was used with a reflexive thematic analysis design, applying the semi-structured interview technique to journalists who cover festivals and event managers. Regarding the results, discursive translation is being carried out intensively by journalists who create their digital media and are hybridising a variety of journalistic genres, which is allowing the revital...

Entrepreneurship that catalyzes opportunities and changing scenarios to develop new brand concepts and their value propositions, has emerged with great force in recent times as a result of the health emergency. In this sense, a humanistic trend has evolved that seeks to enhance the collaborative aspects of entrepreneurs and has remained in the hearts of users. We present data and cases from Ibero-America on these people, who, showing attitude and resilience, have focused on responding to users seeking satisfaction, good treatment, as well as being able to buy and satisfy their needs in a sensitive and empathic way. These actions have contributed to a survival without major fears, which are already caracteristic in the Iberoamerican región. We also suggest taking advantage of the passage through higher educational institutions to continue strengthening the entrepreneurial spirit and huma...

Media literacy, or educommunication, has audiovisual literacy as one of its dimensions. This has always been promoted for application in schools and civil society, however, there are not many studies on its application in the university setting. Therefore, this research aims to study audiovisual literacy applied in communication faculties in Latin America through the teaching of the documentary genre. A qualitative approach was used through semi-structured interviews with teachers from educational institutions in nine countries in the region. The results obtained show that, although curricula do not explicitly address it, teachers and students carry out this literacy at different levels and depths, which is why an initial typology is proposed consisting of audiovisual literacy: by genre, intergeneric, transversal, and instrumental.

In this research, I will study the international and constitutional provisions specific to Amerindian people, located in the countries of the ancient Inca Empire and Amazon region. In the time of the Incas, the Arawak, the Taino and the Caribs, it was impossible to separate health, science and knowledge from religion. Communication played an important role. With the Conquest and colonial times, there were transmissions of diseases between the New and Old World. The first legislation on behalf of Indians was already concerned with health and communication. Nowadays, international standards and constitutions give Amerindians the right to access to health, especially physical and mental health. To guarantee this right, their medicine, traditional knowledge from their ancestors, science and technologies are fully recognized. Clearly, this implies the respect of the intellectual property of a...

The university is faced with tensions and demands resulting from the transformations that society demands. The new public management (NGP) imposes new paradigms as far as university administration is concerned. Concomitantly, the international rankings of universities establish standards and classifications, placing the focus on access to information that should be available to interest groups. This work has been proposed as a central purpose, to describe the ways of appointing the rectors in Latin American universities, with the purpose of elaborating in theoretical terms a taxonomy that allows to differentiate and classify the universities of the region, opening the discussion on what is the most appropriate mechanism to provide the position of the highest university authority. The information used for this study was obtained from a primary source: the database of universities in Latin...

Culture and national identity are key aspects of the social and economic development of a country. Consequently, cultural communication promotes the processes linked to artistic activities and cultural manifestations that allow preserving the values of a nation and contribute to human and social development, creating a full awareness of the importance of cultural diversity at local, national, and international levels. This article, based on a descriptive-correlational study, evaluates and compares the effectiveness of governmental communication on YouTube about culture in the 19 Ibero-American countries that have a channel on this platform. The communication 2.0 index is used for this purpose (Altamirano-Benítez et al., 2018a; Túñez-López et al., 2016). The results reveal a scarce use of the potential of this channel as a tool for the promotion and dissemination of culture that incre...

The Theory of Social Representations, proposed by Serge Moscovici in 1961, is a milestone in understanding social thought. This study analyzed 285 abstracts from Ibero-American psychology journals available in the SciELO database, processed with the IRAMuTeQ software. Five thematic classes were identified within two main axes: the first addresses methodological aspects, Class 1 (analysis techniques and software) and Class 2 (sample characteristics); the second concerns the development of studies on Social Representations, Class 3 (family-related themes), Class 4 (health themes), and Class 5 (contents of Moscovici’s Theory). It was found that IRAMuTeQ structured classes consistent with the abstracts and highlighted the predominance of Moscovici’s theoretical

The article presents a review of methodologies for the assessment of the so-called University Social Responsibility from the analysis of indicator systems in the area of higher education in Ibero-America. A publication-based research was conducted, compiling progress made between the years 2006-2013. A total of two doctoral theses that presented evaluation systems in students; two models proposed by universities in Peru and Spain; and the papers of two university networks that designed a University Social Responsibility conceptual development and indicator systems for its assessment were identified. The article points out that despite the spectrum of conceptual proposals produced during the first decade of the 21st century, only a few assessment programs are still in force. This situation is marked as a positive factor to identify strengths and weaknesses in the proposed models, and to a...
