This research explores the discursive construction of the quality of sacrifice of the soccer player Paolo Guerrero in printed Peruvian Sport Journalism during the Copa America Argentina 2011 and the World Cup Brazil 2014 Qualifiers. To do that, various strategies used in the newspaper articles are identified in order to represent the sacrifice as a supposed essence of our national identity. It argues that the exaltation of sacrificial worship through the figure of Guerrero constructs a “must-be” for the Peruvian nation, since this alleged sacrifice is always made for the nation and their entire community’s interests. This article offers a journey through various texts –from the last fifty years of research– about the role and development of Peruvian soccer and its links with communication studies. The aim is to ponder the role played by sports media in the construction of Peruvian social reality, specifically in the case of football historiography in that country. Through a detailed review of three communication sources (written press, radio and television), we see a marked tendency from the Peruvian academy for the investigation of football and communications, taking as a source the written press and television, omitting the radio. Future research should also focus on visual aspects, new technologies and audiences.

Discursive translation allows us to explain how discourses, genres, or formats are transferred and adapted from an existing medium to an emerging one. To verify this phenomenon, the present research focused on studying this process in journalistic coverage of Ibero-American film festivals. Therefore, the objective is to describe the development of the methods of discursive translation and hybridisation of journalistic genres applied to reporting on film festivals in Ibero-America.
