The olive industry (OI) generates large quantities of contaminated wastewater, especially during the alkaline treatment of green olives, posing an environmental problem due to the high levels of organic matter, phenolic compounds, and salts present in these effluents. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of two treatments, adsorption with activated carbon and Fenton reagent, to reduce biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) in OI wastewater. Samples were collected from three affected zones in Tacna, Peru, and both treatments were applied using different reagent concentrations. The analysis included measuring BOD5 and COD before and after the treatments, followed by statistical tests to validate the results. The findings showed that although both methods achieved significant reductions in BOD5 and COD, Fenton’s reagent was more efficient in r...

The objective of this study was to define a technology package, in order to provide an inventory of the technologies used during the processing of the Peruvian green coffee with specialty coffee qualities to export, supported by a technological management perspective. The methodology relied on a technology package construction, by identifying, describing and quantifying four of its components, based on a systematic literature review, and five professional’s endorsements; each of them knowledgeable of the technologies used in agricultural products processing. Here, semi-structured interviews (Massachusetts Institute of Technology protocol) were used. As a result, a technology package was obtained with 79 generic technologies, 76 of these are involved during the processing activities, which develop physical, sensorial and cultural specialty coffee qualities, valuable for foreign markets....

Compost is a natural fertilizer that is obtained from the use of solid organic waste, limiting the environmental impact that it causes. The purpose of this investigation was to determine the influence of Mende and water in the pH stabilization, and the efficiency of the compost made from waste from green areas of the District of Tacna. A 3x3 multilevel factorial design was used. It was verified that a dose of 1.5 L of Mende and 33.5 L of water achieve a pH of 7.95 and a compost obtaining efficiency of 38.80 %. After laboratory analysis, it was determined that this compost managed to meet the internationally required parameters (temperature, organic matter, C/N ratio, humidity, total nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium) in the EPA 40CFR 503, Mexico NTEA-006 – SMA-2006 and Chile Nch 2880 2004. It was concluded that it is possible to take advantage of the waste from green areas in the city...

Green management and going green are not as clear cut and easy as hyped by the general media. While going ecologically green is indeed beneficial and appropriate the process and procedure of becoming green is anything but easy. Firstly turning green is largely not a legal requirement but a voluntary process. Thus even though LEED (which is by far the more publicly known green certification standard) governs the certification of the green management effort it is not a compulsory condition for practitioners to go green. Secondly even with the encouragement of incentives to comply practitioners are skeptical in becoming green due to: (a) a lack of true understanding of the benefit of ecologically friendly procedures (the practice of profits versus the theory of benefits); (b) lack of short term gain in life cycle costing (practitioners want instant incentives); and (c) mostly because it is ...

This article aims to provide a new concept of industrial processes, the so-called sustainable industrial processes that are used in industrial plants and competitive companies responsible for developing chemicals. These innovative processes should incorporate in its design stages that are efficient, producing less waste and scrap, not pollute the environment, using substances which are safe, and the products and by-products produced by them. These processes must be safe, both internally (for workers) and externally (for communities and ecosystems) and must contribute to sustainable development, ensuring the efficient use of natural resources and promoting the use of renewable resources. An example is the production cellulose pulp that is produced throughout Latin America (Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay), but a sustainable industrial process can be developed nationally.

Attentiveness in silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) is due to their optical, catalytic and antibacterial properties; which depend on its size, shape and colloidal stability. AgNPs can be obtained by chemical, physical and biological techniques; However, “Green Chemistry” approach promotes the development of research that does not include toxic substances or high-cost conditions in the synthesis of nanoparticles, an alternative is the use of extracts of plants, algae, fungi, bacteria and viruses as agents. reducers and stabilizers in the synthesis process. For this reason, this research employs ethanolic extracts of petals and leaves of Solanumgrandiflorum Ruiz & Pav to obtain AgNPs with a particle size less than 50 nm. Using UHPLCESI- Q-Orbitrap-MS-MS, the mayor secondary metabolites present in ethanolic extracts were identified, AgNPs were characterized by UV-Vis, FTIR, DLS and FE-SEM...

In the following article, I put forward several ideas that address the promotion of the green hydrogen industry in the region of Tacna, Peru, considering the water challenges and the need to find alternative sources of fresh water. The promotion of the green hydrogen industry in this region is approached in a comprehensive manner, considering the challenges and sustainable solutions related to water scarcity. Turning to alternative sources of water could also reduce scarcity and alleviate pressures on groundwater and other natural water bodies. Aquifer recharging from alternative sources, which allows water to move from surface water to groundwater, is a well-known process for preventing water shortages.
