We study a system formed by M dimers through half-filled two-site Hubbard model, with two electrons. Our approach use the third version of Nonextensive Statistical Mechanics as tool for calculating thermodynamic and magnetic parameters such as entropy, internal energy, magnetization and specific heat. In the computer simulations, we vary the q entropic index values between 1 and 2, such that, q = 1.0, 1.4, 1.7 and 2.0. These values are interesting to study small magnetic systems. We find the critical temperature regions in simulations with the simple Hubbard model, i.e. without the intersite interaction. For other side, adding this additional term, we notice an enlargement and shifting of the thermodynamic parameters comparing with the obtained from simple Hubbard model; even more, we found in some cases the absence of the critical temperature regions.

Objective: To study the presence in two hospitals of Lima of extended spectrum β-lactamases (BLEE) and to identify TEM and SHV types produced by Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae strains. Material and Methods: The selection and confirmation of BLEE producing strains was done by antimicrobial susceptibility tests. The identification of bla TEM and bla SHV genes was achieved by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and DNA sequencing. Results: One hundred and thirty seven Escherichia coli and 18 Klebsiella pneumoniae strains were isolated from hospitalized patients between July and September 2000. Most showed high resistance to third-generation cephalosporins and aztreonam;2,9% of all E.coli and 44,4% of all K.pneumoniae isolates were confirmed as BLEE producer strains. The aim of this research was to evaluate the use of different extenders for cooling of rabbit semen and its effect on sperm quality. Thirty semen samples from 10 sexually mature rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) were used. Each sample was diluted separately in a 1:10 ratio in four extenders, composed of skim milk and sugars (T1); dextrose, sodium citrate, and potassium acetate (T2); sodium caseinates, phosphates and sugars (T3); and tris-citric acid and egg yolk (T4). The semen was kept at 16 °C for 72 hours. At the time of dilution and every 24 hours, total motility (MT), progressive motility (MP) and sperm kinetics were evaluated with the Sperm Class Analyzer® system, and vitality and morphology were evaluated by the eosin-nigrosin staining. A literature review is presented on the effects of school day extension programs implemented in various Latin American countries. According to their objects of interest, the studies are grouped into four types of impacts: a) school performance, b) academic and career paths, c) labor, and d) school organization and culture. A predominance of quantitative evaluations that analyzed the results in Mathematics and Language were identified, thus it was considered pertinent to broaden the knowledge search proposed from the programs. Other studies identified positive impacts on students' trajectories and their household economy; however, these results still need to be strengthened through similar studies in other contexts, which also inquire about the factors that explain these causes. Lastly, future studies should consider the particularities of each program in the search for their effects.

Se evaluó el efecto del contenido de materia grasa (%MG), en leche descremada UHT usada como diluyente seminal sobre la integridad de membrana plasmática y la motilidad progresiva (MP) de espermatozoides caninos preservados a 4 °C. Se obtuvieron 20 eyaculados mediante manipulación digital de 10 perros Bulldog Inglés y American Bully de fertilidad probada. Cada eyaculado fue evaluado a través de espermiograma convencional y de una prueba hipoosmótica simplificada (HOST-s). Las muestras fueron fraccionadas y diluidas en relación 1:3 con leche descremada UHT como diluyente a 0%MG y 0.5%MG, con adición de estreptomicina (50 mg/100 ml) y penicilina sódica (50 mg/100 ml). The search for microchannel wall modifications of simple use, that provide the desired functionality while the nonspecific adsorption is reduced to a mínimum, has allowed the development of new wall coatings. Specifically, the study of modifications that will enable to create robust microfluidic devices for the direct analysis of complex samples in which no sample pretreatment is required, are becoming a very important field of research, since they will allow microfluidic devices to become the analytical tool of choice for pharmaceutical and bioanalytical research fields.

The effect of glucose, fructose, trehalose, and sucrose, as components of the extender, was evaluated on canine sperm viability during refrigeration at 5 ºC. The spermatic fraction of 16 dog ejaculations were distributed in 5 aliquots containing an extender based on Tris – citric acid – egg yolk, but differing in the presence of one of the sugars, plus a control without sugar. The five treatments were evaluated after 24, 48, 72, and 96 hours of refrigeration in relation to progressive motility and functional integrity of the membrane by the hypoosmotic swelling test (HOS). All groups, with the exception of the control group, the sperm motility maintained within acceptable ranges during the study (90% on day 0 and 60% on day 4). The electronic energy and geometric parameters have been calculated, for the Phthalocyanine (Pc), Naphthalocyanine (Nc), Anthracenocyanine (Anc), ZnPc, ZnNc, ZnAnc, CuPc, CuNc and CuAnc. Obtained the results with Hartree-Fock (RHF/6-31G *) calculations show that certain correlation exists between the size of the system p-extended and the distances of the internal cavity. A minimum variation of the dihedral angles exists showing in general a planar tendency in all the structures.

The cryoprotectant effect of two hypertonic extenders (trehalose and lactose) on the post-thawing characteristics of ram semen (n=4) was evaluated. The extender composition included Tris 27.1 g/l, Citric acid 14.0 g/l, Fructose 10.0 g/l, Glycine 10.0 g/l, egg yolk 10.0% (v/v) and Glycerol 6.5% (v/v). Semen was collected in an artificial vagina. Extenders have been established as an alternative to compensate the antioxidant deficiencies of stallion semen during freezing. Several research works have aimed to evaluate the effect of various additives with antioxidant properties on the equine sperm cryotolerance; however, in limited occasions this has been linked with the extender total antioxidant capacity (TAC).
