Self-control is a relevant concept for understanding human behavior across different areas of life. It is associated with positive aspects in various domains and has a pragmatic value as a prerequisite for the successful achievement of long-term goals. In this regard, there are different theories and approaches to the study of self-control. Gaining a deeper understanding of the psychological mechanisms involved in this capacity could guide the design of more effective strategies to foster its development across different contexts. This narrative review article focuses on an updated overview of two of the main theoretical models of this construct, identifying potential similarities and differences. First, Roy F. Baumeister’s model proposes that self-control is a limited resource similar to a muscle. Self-control fatigue is known as “ego depletion”. Second, Kentaro Fujita’s model s...

The present work shows the simulation results of the study performed on a system that improves the factor power of a network and diminishes the harmonic distortion of the current consumed by AC drives, giving the network the additional capability of energy regeneration. In order to improve the energie quality of the system, a three phase voltage source inverter is used instead of the classical diode-based rectifier. The proposed AC drive consists of a three phase voltage source inverter that drives an induction motor using the direct field orientation control method. The DC terminals of the AC drive is connected to a second inverter, which in turn is connected to the AC network by means of a three phase reactor or transformer in order to reduce the distortion of the AC current utility by keeping the AC current in phase with the voltage utility and maintaining the voltage at the DC link c...

Following the perspective of the General Strain Theory (GST), this work explored the relationships between stressful experiences for adolescents, in the family (aggression and problems with the police) and at school (bullying), anger, self-control, and antisocial behaviors. Participated in the study, 102 students, 13 to 16 years old, from public schools in a city in the interior of São Paulo state. They answered five questionnaires. Descriptive analysis and simple and adjusted logistic regression were performed. Having committed school violence, having anger as a trait, and having lower self-control seem to interact and foster the conditions for antisocial behavior. Further studies, with larger and diverse samples, should continue to explore the TGT model, including context variables, which may modulate the focused relationships.

This article describes and compares the levels of self-control and impulsivity, key aspects of self-regulation, in three age groups to evaluate possible differences due to age; and at two times: September 2019 (n=190), a normal period, and September 2020 (n=199), a period with lockdown during the pandemic. It was found that self-control increases, and impulsivity decreases with increasing age. Also, improvidence impulsivity was higher during the pandemic, while compulsive urgency and self-control were lower than in 2019. In short, age is a relevant factor in explaining differences in self-regulation, and the COVID-19 restrictions led to a depletion of self-control and greater impulsivity in times of stress.

Dental caries is one of the most prevalent chronic illnesses in early childhood, with repercussions on minors' quality of life. This vital stage constitutes an opportunity for children to acquire oral hygiene habits and control over them, especially in social vulnerability contexts. Objective: To analyze parents' beliefs about their ability to support their children in developing dental hygiene habits and children's beliefs about the acquisition of these habits before and after completing a dental hygiene development program. We established a quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test for two groups: parents and their preschool-age children participating in an educational program focused on developing dental hygiene habits in Mexico. We compared the habits, self-efficacy, intention and control on oral hygiene, through a paired t-test analysis. Results: The findings showed that...

The swift expansion of e-commerce in Indonesia has altered consumer behavior, particularly given the prominence of platforms like Shopee and Tokopedia. This study seeks to examine the correlation between the online shopping experience, attitudinal loyalty, and impulsive buying habits during Ramadan. We employed a quantitative methodology to investigate the impact of informativeness and trust as functional and psychological elements of the online buying experience. Data were gathered from Shopee and Tokopedia users in Jakarta during Ramadan in 2025. The analysis reveals that factors such as informativeness and trust have a positive impact on online impulsive buying, with attitudinal loyalty acting as a mediating variable and self-control serving as an adverse moderating factor. Enhancing informativeness and trust can elevate loyalty and impulsive buying, while self-control dimin...

The objective of this research was to determine if academic self-concept and academic self-efficacy predict academic procrastination in university students from the La Libertad Region. The data of 386 university students of both sexes were analyzed through an associative strategy with a cross-sectional predictive design. The questionnaires used were the AF5 Self-Concept Scale (ECT), the EAPESA scale for self-concept and the EPA Procrastination scale. It was found that there is a statistically significant and practical relationship between the study variables (p <.01) and that the coefficient of determination R2 = .273 indicates that academic self-concept and academic self-efficacy explain 27.3% of the variance criterion of total academic procrastination of the variable. It is concluded that the coefficients β (-, 382, -, 201) indicate that academic self-concept and academic self-effi...

Academic self-efficacy is a powerful predictor of academic success, yet there are several factors that predispose it. Because of this, an explanatory model is proposed using the self-regulation of academic activities, positive affection, and personality. Hierarchical multiple linear regression was used to support the predictive proposal of the model. The Specific Perceived Self-Efficacy Scale of Academic Situations, The Scale of Positive and Negative Experience, Subscale Self-Regulation of Activities of the Academic Procrastination Scale, and Mini International Personality Item Pool (MINI-IPIP) were used. High correlations were obtained in the self-regulation of activities, positive affection, and personality (extraversion, concientousness and openness to experience) to academic self-efficacy. The final predictive model explained 30.1% of the total variance of academic self-efficacy. In ...
