Abstract Today's society is going through a series of transformations that include uncertainties, accelerated changes that, in a certain way, also generated responses and consequences in a divided, fragmented, intolerant and not very empathetic society; for this reason, more than ever, responsible citizens are needed to improve society. This article is the report of a research whose purpose was to develop a systematic analysis of the formation and development of civic competencies to respond to a globalized world. The objective of the study is to know the relationship between the training strategy of research recruitment and the development of research competences in university students. The research is quantitative, non-experimental, with a correlational design, and it tries to analyze and evaluate the relationship between the variables: strategy of research registration and research competencies. Within the educational realm, teaching methodologies that incorporate the use of digital technologies require specific skills and understandings from educators, leading to a reevaluation and creation of pedagogical approaches different from those initially acquired. In this scenario, research was conducted with the purpose of proposing a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) to cultivate digital skills among faculty members. A design involving pre-testing was used with a sample of 34 university teachers, selected through non-probabilistic convenience sampling. This article presents the results of a descriptive quantitative exploratory study conducted in the countries of Colombia and Ecuador to assess the degree of media competence of 146 journalists from the cities of Medellín (Colombia) and Loja (Ecuador). A self-administered questionnaire was applied, structured with nine sociodemographic questions, four on the generalities of the level of media competence and 24 evaluative distributed in the six dimensions of this type of competition with their respective indicators. The general results of low and medium-level competition obtained by this group of professionals demand priority interventions from local, regional and international works that mobilize scientific, academic and political cooperation to improve the performance of a population that should lead the general formation of the citizenship in media competitions.

This article addresses the importance of developing an instrument that measures media competence, that is, the set of abilities to interact critically with the media. It introduces the problem of media education in the information society and argues the need to assess the skills of citizens in this context. It approaches this need from three perspectives: the pedagogical challenge that implies the little knowledge of the media competence and its little institutional formalization; the political discourse that privileges educational technology over media education; and the methodological question, analyzed from recent assessments of media competence applied in Spain, Chile and Peru, limited to the self-perception. Finally, we propose the construction of an instrument involving two features: integrative in terms of content, and innovative in terms of methodology.

At the university I´d learned all the theory, with joy because i liked it and understood it, because I´d grown up believing that the letters and only the letters were my stuff, so i grew up keeping distance and the necesary relation with numbers. Later, when i finished university, i began to work in different sectors and learned everything that the university didn´t teach me, for example, i learned to understand numbers, their importance, their omnipresence, the advantages of knowing and working with them; and it's not that i have a particular tendency or fondness for statistics, I just think that I´ve managed to reach a better understanding of how numbers can communicate, sometimes even better than ourselves, and this is something that I always try to transmit and teach.

The research evaluated the effectiveness of digital storytelling (DST) in the development of digital skills in its different areas, in university students of a public entity. The approach was quantitative, quasi-experimental. The sample was non-random, of 62 participants distributed in a control and experimental group. A Digital Competence Questionnaire was initially administered to both groups in their different areas. The students of the experimental group elaborated a weekly digital storytelling for 3 months within the framework of their study subjects, while the control group did not.
