Interradicular miniscrews (MTI) are temporary devices designed to be inserted into the alveolar bone in order to improve anchorage. The aim of this study was to present a guide for dentists that allows identifying the most appropriate anatomical sites for the insertion of these devices, thus achieving a higher clinical success rate in treatments. PUBMED, Google Scholar and SciELO were the databases used to search the literature; articles published between 2000 and 2020, in English and Spanish, were considered. Our review suggests, according to the current bibliography, planning at the beginning of orthodontic treatment, using general guidelines for the insertion of MTI through visual maps of “safe areas” that exist between the inter-root spaces. For these, it was considered that the minimum amount of alveolar bone should be 3 mm.

Presentamos ejemplos ...

The analytical model proposed by Bazant & Oh based on compatibility of deformations and equilibrium of forces in RC cross sections is extended and presented to predict short-time deformations. Stresses and deflections in beams strengthened with 01' without FRP plates epoxy- bonded to the tension face of rectangular and T cross sections. The theory assumes concrete to have a nonzero tensile carrying capacity. A parametric study was conducted to invesugate some design parameters such as plate area. plate stiffness and strength, concrete compressive strength and steel reinforcement ratio. To this end. moment-curvat ure diagrams lI'ere generated to know the influence of such parameters in the flexural response of the section. In all cases studied, adding the plate to the cross section increases the yield and ultimate tnoment capacity substantially in sections with a low steel reinforceni...

Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) of the craniofacial structure has demonstrated its usefulness in the dental area during the last decades, thus it has become a fundamental tool in the diagnosis, planning, and evaluation of treatment, and although it was not developed for the exclusive use in dentistry, as it is commonly considered, it is used in other areas such as medicine. It is specifically used in the head and neck area where different medical specialties interact, and at the same time these interact with dental specialties, so knowing the advantages of CBCT over different imaging technologies in the medical area is necessary. The purpose of this review was to describe the applications of observation, diagnosis, planning, and evolution of treatments using maxillofacial HSCT in different medical specialties. This work highlights the use of TCHC in different medical applications an...

Dental concrescence is an anomaly in which the cementum overlying the roots joins, causing the union of two different teeth. It is often reported in posterior dentition, affecting certain dental procedures such as root canal treatment, periodontal procedures, orthodontic movement, and dental extraction. This case report describes the successful diagnosis and treatment of a 20-year-old male with a moderate skeletal class II who was referred for a radiographic evaluation after 1 year of failed orthodontic movement of teeth 1.1 and 1.2. The radiographic assessment with a Cone Beam Computed Tomography allowed discarding other related pathologies and diagnosis of a dental concrescence. The patient underwent orthognathic surgery in which class II was corrected, and the concrescence was treated with a prosthetic approach.

This article deals with the flexural reinforcement of reinforced concrete beams through carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP), with the main objective of comparing the results obtained with a theoretical reinforcement design and those obtained in beams with CFRP reinforcement. tested under point load, as well as establishing the influence it has on the capacity of the beams to bending. The process of elaboration of the specimens with and without CFRP reinforcement and with the same amount of reinforcing steel is described, as well as the test carried out under point load to each beam, the amount of CFRP reinforcement is detailed, all this based on a beam obtained from the structural analysis carried out for a model building subjected to different overloads to generate an increase in the bending moment, making it necessary to place the CFRP reinforcement. Finally, the comparison between ...

Root fractures are after caries and periodontal disease, the third cause of loss of dental units, being very common in posterior and endodontically treated teeth. The symptoms they produce are ambiguous and their diagnosis depends on the combination of multiple clinical and imaging factors. Among the diagnostic studies available to establish the origin of the symptoms is the cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). The objective of this case report is to describe the strategies used in the acquisition and interpretation of the CBCT in three patients with suspected root fractures. The use of a reduced field of view, with a voxel of 0.150 mm or less, accompanied by dynamic volume exploration made it possible to detect bone defects as an indirect sign for locating root fracture lines.

This paper analyzes different types of failures in buildings of the cities of Portoviejo, Manta and Bahía de Caráquez during the earthquake of April 16, 2016. The evidence derived from the failures refer to existing codes and design considerations in order to reveal how modeling corresponds or not with different reinforcedconcrete columns, floor slabs and rigid frame buildings without structural walls. Given the diversity of constructive solutions found in the steel-deck slabs, a 23 factorial experiment design was performed to identify the influence and independence of the type of node, the rectangularity of the floor plan and the height of buildings on the strength and deformation parameters of floor slabs, in relation to the failures observed. Additionally, this paper undertakes a singular analysis approach of different failure causes in a building demolished in the city of Portoviej...
