Local development from a basin perspective: the case of the Zaña valley basin” aims to describe the implementation of policies in the management of local development in the districts located in the Zaña valley basin. The central problem of our research is Is there in the local development management in the districts located in the Zaña Valley Basin a basin conception that is based on the rational use of natural resources, the development of social capital with identity and the sustainability of the environment? The object of study are the 8 districts that are located within the Zaña valley basin. It was determined that in the management of local development in the districts of the Zaña valley basin there is no basin approach. The public policies of the central government, regional and local governments are centralist and limit the spaces for participation of social actors. The nee...

The impacts of the El Niño and La Niña phenomena are analyzed in the context of Climate Change in the upper basin of the Piura River, on the infrastructure and equipment for education, health, basic services, roads and residential, in the district of Canchaque, which was one of the most affected in that region. The type of research is applied, the level is explanatory and the approach is mixed, triangulating qualitative and quantitative methods. The results show that the intense rains associated with El Niño and the prolonged droughts of La Niña considerably affect all services and equipment, in turn aggravating the problems of water scarcity, affecting both agricultural production and the water resources available for human and livestock consumption. Finally, it is concluded that the upper basin of the Piura River, as a whole and Canchaque in particular, present risks and dangers; t...

The present research was held in the basin of the river Ramis, located in the hydrographic region of Titicaca, Peru, with the objective of calibrating and validating the Sacramento hydrological model (SAC-SMA) from a semi-distributed approach. The hydrometeorological information used for rainfall, temperature and flow, correspond to a series of records 2005 - 2016. The methodology of spatial interpolation of meteorological data in the virtual station was estimated using the Shepard procedure and potential evapotranspiration by the model Turc, these methodologies are incorporated in the RSMINERVE platform and are automated estimates. The calibration and validation phase of the model was performed randomly with 70% and 30% of the total data respectively. The statistical evaluation of efficiency and error were measured by the Nash coefficient, Nash coefficient for logarithm values and r...

The Santa Eulalia Sub-basin is essential for Lima city. It provides water for its population, which is almost the third part of the national population. This article focus on the expectation and interests on water of the actors of the Sub-basin, as well as the ones beyond it, like Lima city. The new Water Law (2009) and the subsequent norms pretended to overtake the traditional approach to managing water as a resource to turn to an integrated management that, among other things, considers social, economic and environmental dimensions and apply a participative basin-based approach. Nonetheless, go from the promise to reality represents a big challenge. The first section of the article presents a general context of the Subbasin its actors and its relation to Lima city in the framework of relations between urban and rural areas. The second section explains the dynamics between the water use...

This research will try to address the consequences of oil extraction on the access to natural and water resources, especially in two native communities of the Kukama Kukamiria people located in the lower Marañón basin. Furthermore, we analyze the role of the state and enterprises involved in the oil spills occurred in the area. In this sense, even if the oil spills have transformed the access and use of water (for instance the quantity and quality of water and fish in the area) the river and fishing remain relevant for the ecosystem, family economy and Kukama cosmovision. Nonetheless, the conception of a polluted environment continues to create incertainty in the population.

The Puyango-Tumbes river basin derives from the polluting sources located basically in its upper and middle part, which incorporate a considerable amount of heavy metals into the water and, to a greater extent, into the sediments. The main activities that generate pollutants and incorporate them into the Puyango-Tumbes river are mining in the towns of Portovelo and Zaruma in the province of El Oro, Ecuador, as well as the generation and discharge of solid waste and residual water from the towns. seated in the river. This situation has already generated some problems in the lower part of the basin, a Peruvian sector, where it contaminates the rice soils on the left bank of the Tumbes river and the Tumbes mangroves; damaging direct food sources of the population and putting human health at risk. Within the framework of the aforementioned, this project aims to classify environmental indicat...

The integrated management of the basin must be analyzed from a complex point of view and from the different perspectives that address it. The implementation of integrated watershed management actions and plans is not easy, given the high variability of the territory in the Peruvian case, especially when it comes to transboundary watersheds. The Chinchipe basin, Peru-Ecuador transboundary basin, is part of the Amazonian slope, it is located in a strategic and productive area of northern Peru, mainly in the territory of the Cajamarca region, the agricultural activity with coffee cultivation predominates in the middle basin and rice crops, cocoa, other crops in the lower basin. Among its main weaknesses for integrated management is the non-conformation of the Basin Water Resources Council as a basic institutional actor of the system according to Peruvian Law, the limited empowerment o...

Areas with a steep slope and with the presence of rain are susceptible to landslides, which in turn can cause other disasters. The objective of this research is to determine the landslide hazard map using deterministic methods, as a case study in the Cuyocuyo river basin, located in the northeast area of the department of Puno, belonging to the Amazon watershed, considered a moderately rainy and steep slopes. The mapping of ground instability is carried out considering landslides as surface translational, controlled by convergence of groundwater flow, using the infinite slope model. The data required to implement the model includes topography, soil properties, and water states that are highly variable in both space and time. The landslide inventory is used as verification at the points of occurrence. As results, for the saturated, semi-saturated and dry soil conditions, the safety factor...

In this study, the results were evaluated of the application of the meteorological model Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) in 103 days where extreme precipitation events (90th percentile) occurred within the Mantaro River basin. The WRF atmospheric model was used for four areas through nesting multiple, and spatial resolutions of 18, 6, 3 and 0.75 km, respectively, were obtained. Extreme precipitation forecasts were made and the effectiveness of the numerical outputs was evaluated, using observed data {\emph in-situ}, through the SENAMHI weather station network and satellite information. The values of statistical estimators show that the model tends to underestimate the rainfall data in many cases and overestimates it in others, having limitations in representing the spatial variability of the observed data. Accumulated precipitation satellite data always overestimates precipitation...

This research approaches the effects that the water quality of Rimac river has presented opposite to the development of the mining activity in San Mateo’s district of Huanchor located in Huarochirí’s province in Lima. The area of study is a zone where the mining polymetallic activity has developed from many decades behind approximately from the 30s, epoch in which there had not the current requirements of the environmental legal regulation and for such motive we have nowadays catalogued in the zone 21 environmental mining liabilities between mine entrance, tailing ponds and infrastructures seated on the banks of the Rimac water and of it’s principal tributaries like Blanco and Aruri rivers which nowadays are important sources of lixiviados to Rímac river water, due to the fact that they aren`t being handled by the private company and for the State. The quality water investigation...

Water security in Andean watersheds depends on adaptive water management in the face of glaciohydrological and socioeconomic impacts. The Parón sub-basin in the Santa River basin (Ancash, Peru) is a suitable case in this respect. Water is regulated by a floodgate in the Parón lake, which has become a focal point of social conflict. This study analyzes the water balance of this sub-basin using a semi-distributed hydrological model for the present (2006-2016) and future (2030-2050), considering different scenarios of precipitation variation, glacial melting, and increased water demand. Without regulation of the lake, the sub-basin would enter into a strong water deficit in the dry months (June-August). Until 2030 (2050), assuming a maximum regulation of 2.6 m³/s, a 15% (35%) increase in precipitation, and a 10% (26%) decrease in the glacier contribution to the annual flow, water availab...

The Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment ...

In recent years, corporate governance and corporate social responsibility have come closer in academic research, and especially on sustainability indexes. In fact, the most significant indexes handle the matter of corporate governance along with other environmental and social criteria. The purpose of this study is to find out if all the variables included in the corporate governance dimension on the above mentioned indicators are equally relevant and material for both corporate social responsability and corporate governance. To carry out the study, a sample of academics and professionals from Spanish universities and businesses sector was taken. We defend the plausible hypothesis that not all items included within corporate governance dimension on sustainability indexes are homogeneous and interchangeable and, therefore, equally relevant. As a result, the measurements provided by these i...
