The study was conducted in 500 adolescents schoolgirls aged between 9-17 years in order to study dysfunctional bleeding. The age of the respondents and the age of menarche were similar, there were no significant differences. The duration of menses for Lima, Tarma and Tarapoto have been within the limits set by the authors as they progress downward trend cycles. The menstrual interval has been normal for the most part, the characteristic aligomenorrea at this stage was little tendency to decrease as the cycles progress and polymenorrhea and hypermenorrhea have been rare, but medical consultation originated less than 10%.

Violence against children and adolescents are multiple and complex problems, made  visible as a necessity to be faced by the states, in particular from the International Convention on the Rights of the Child. The internal order of Argentina continues to advance with specific legislation of national and local order. The Argentine Civil and Commercial Code - hereinafter CCCN - in force since 2015, reinvigorates the responsibility to effect the adequate development of minors, fundamentally in relation to the express recognition of progressive capacity, the process of dejudicialization of the issues referred childhood, adolescence and family, which can be resolved in the administrative sphere, and the prohibition of mistreatment (art. 647 of the CCCN). This article proposes some cases with resolutions through multidisciplinary approaches, wit...

The aim of this study is to expose the reality of adolescent labor in Peru. Adolescent workers aged fourteen have been the object of regulatory protection for around one hundred years in Peru; however, although our standards of protection have been brought in line with the global context through international conventions, an adequate exercise of rights on the part of interested parties has not been achieved, and the result has been the generating of an informal labor market. This has occurred in spite of the existence of valid legal norms that meet accepted standards of effectiveness, but which in reality do not offer the progress being sought.

Refractory depression is defined as a depressive disorder that does not respond to psychotherapy and two periods of pharmacological management. During adolescence, depression may have different manifestations than in adults, with therapeutic interventions based on the same premise but with variations for each age group. The prevalence of refractory depression is showing a progressive increase, a reason for which the search for more effective management is fundamental. In the midst of the initiatives to address it, the use of ketamine has been proposed, and several authors have detailed different therapeutic doses, duration of treatment and adverse effects. We present the case of a patient with long-term depression, who had undergone multiple therapeutic interventions, without symptomatic control, and who is currently receiving a ketamine regimen with promising results.

Background: Daily stressors are events of low emotional impact but with high probability of occurrence, which in adolescence can come from school, friends and family. Therefore, it is necessary to have instruments for their evaluation. Aim: To determine the validity of the internal structure and measurement invariance of the Children’s Hassles Scale in adolescents from Lima, Peru. Method: The sample consisted of 524 adolescents between 14 and 18 years old. The internal structure was evaluated by confirmatory factor analysis, and the measurement invariance was assessed using a procedure in which restrictions were added progressively. Finally, reliability was obtained through coefficient omega. Results: The original factor structure is not replicated in the Peruvian sample. On the contrary, a parsimonious structure of two oblique factors oriented to stressors in school and family present...

The word 'ankylosis' is derived from ancient Greek, meaning 'a rigid joint', in this case associated to an impediment for progressive mouth opening, as a consequence of a fibrous, bony, or mixed tissue junction between the mandibular condyle and the mandibular fossa. This condition may occur as a sequel of mandible and face trauma, infectious diseases, or as a manifestation of chronic diseases leading to joint damage. This limitation in mouth opening may lead to poor oral hygiene, dental cavities, dental and facial deformities, and obstructive sleep apnea. Surgical therapy is mandatory in such cases, and there are many procedures described in the literature. Our objective is to show our surgical experience in 5 selected patients who were operated in our institution on the basis of the current surgical protocols.

A health technology assessment (HTA) was carried out to critically analyze the evidence on the efficacy and safety of the surgical correction of spinal deformities using the coplanar technique, compared to the conventional derotation techniques, in children, adolescents and adults. A systematic search of the literature was carried out in the PubMed, Cochrane Library and LILACS databases. In addition, a manual search was carried out in the reference lists of the included studies, on Google and on the websites of specialized societies and groups that produce clinical practice guidelines (CPG) and HTA. In addition, we searched ClinicalTrials.gov and the International Clinical Trial Registry Platform (ICTRP) for clinical trial records in progress or not completed. Five documents were selected for evaluation, including two CPG, a randomized clinical trial, and two observational studies. After...

On the basis of the current context of use of mobile devices by adolescents, the need arises to establish the theoretical and practical criteria to promote family communication based on this reality. From a quantitative, descriptive and interpretive study, theories were identified that support the insertion of these devices as well as those that describe their use as objects of conflict and family intrusion. It was concluded that, in the early adolescent stage there is a moderate extension of use that increases progressively with age, and the need to design proposals that guide families about the advantages and risks that the use of these devices generate.

The pancreatic disorders, as acute pancreatitis, of biliary etiology are rare in pediatrics, even more the pancreatic pseudocysts. They are liquid collections surrounded of a fibrous capsule without epithelium, secondary to acute pancreatitis. We present the case of a 14-year-old female patient with a history of acute pancreatitis because of biliary etiology, 10 months prior. She complained of intermittent abdominal pain and a palpable mass in the epigastrium. The Imaging studies showed a pancreatic pseudocyst and cholelithiasis. The laparoscopy was chosen because the technical and esthetic benefits for this population. Therefore, a laparoscopic cystogastro-ostomy-anastomosis and cholecystectomy were performed, with good progress. We affirm this technique is a safe and effective method for the management of this pathology in pediatric patients, and it should be considered as the first op...

In Mexico, a high percentage of young people experience symptoms of generalized anxiety, which are associated with difficulties in executive functions (EF). However, previous studies have shown inconsistent results, as they often rely solely on either objective or subjective measures. Therefore, this study focused on analyzing the relationship between generalized anxiety and EF using both a neuropsychological battery and a self-report questionnaire, in order to provide a more comprehensive understanding of cognitive functioning in adolescents. A quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, correlational, and explanatory design was employed. The sample consisted of 96 adolescents between 12 and 15 years old from the state of Puebla, Mexico. A total of 10.41% of participants presented severe symptoms of generalized anxiety. A significant relationship was found between anxiety and one o...

The growing visibility of violence in schools has caused multiple demands to know their condition in our societies. Given this, the conceptual, analytical and methodological challenges faced between those engaged in their empirical research are evident. However, many of those who face these challenges do not analyze the parallel processes that are configured as the research progresses. This is the case of changes about the role of students in this collective effort. The objective of this document is to analyze the advances and dilemmas of the empirical research on violence in Mexico, focusing on the implications derived from the legitimization of the voices of children and adolescents. This analysis based on the specialized literature on school violence and the voices of students, warns that although studies that conceive these populations as individuals capable of providing data on this...

Thirty years after the approval of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the legal status of children, based on the paradigm of comprehensive protection, continues to present challenges that seek to make effective the human rights inherent to all children and adolescents. From the principle of progressive autonomy of minors, the gradual exercise of rights is recognized. Among these we have sexual rights, demanding control and protection by the State to avoid victimization processes. The reduction of the beginning of criminalresponsibility as opposed to the greater protection of children, through the criminalization of conducts, may generate normative incongruities, whose solution may involve the relaxation of procedural guaranteesor impunity of serious conducts.
