This research seeks to analyze the variables involved in prosocial behavior and his ability to act as a protective factor against gambling addiction. This study is quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional and correlational. The sample was made up of 258 adults residing in the province of Valencia (59.5% women) with a mean age of 20.95 years (SD = 2.19). Questionnaires were applied to measure the variables involved (Brief Resilient Coping Scale, cuestionario de apoyo social, Escala de Prosocialidad y South Oaks Gambling Screen) and a structural equation model was performed. The results showed good fit indices (X2 (41) = 59.31, p = .06; CFI = .97; GFI = .96; RMSEA = .04) and indicated that social support and resilience were not related, being both predictors of prosocial behaviors. Furthermore, prosocial behaviors were predictors of gambling addiction. This research presents an explanato...

Addictionology as a component of the health sciences is rapidly becoming recognized as a medical discipline, specifically as a subspecialty of psychiatry. The problem of addictions is a subject that extends and worsens in postmodern society, due to its multidimensionality and multifactoriality. The health conditions of the countries have improved in terms of reducing mortality and the incidence of some communicable diseases. However, there is a greater incidence of chronic noncommunicable diseases related to lifestyles, as well as the emergence of health problems derived from violence, drug consumption, social, recreational addictions and digital addiction (connectivity). Family factors, including rejection by parents and family conflicts, due to substance abuse and mental health problems, are among the strongest and most consistent predictors of adolescent behavior problems. Therefore, ...

The World Health Organization defines smoking as a chronic addictive disease widespread worldwide. It represents one of the greatest threats to public health, affecting children, youth and adults. It is estimated, that there are 1.300 million smokers in the world and about 80% of these live in countries where there is a high rate of morbidity and mortality associated with tobacco mainly in adult consumers. In particular, the consumption of tobacco among young university students is evident and worrisome. Different authors in the world have raised factors for tobacco use among adolescents and young adults. Such studies argue that the habit of smoking usually begins during adolescence and consolidates in the university stage. Smoking in parents, relatives, and friends is a factor, perhaps the most remarkable, which is associated with the acquisition of smoking as a habit.

The objective of this study is to determine validity and reliability of the Mobile Phone Dependency Test (CPDT), in a 22 items Likert scale-based instrument. The Test was administered to two samples, a public university (N=1044) and a private university (N=356) in the Peruvian city of Arequipa. Validity was determined using an exploratory factor analysis. Three factors were identified: abstinence and tolerance (α=0,901), abuse and problems with impulse control (α=0,853), and problems with excessive mobile phone use (α=0,853). Additionally, percentile ranks were created for both public and private universities.
