The article analyzes a new form of Internet communication - a creolized text consisting of two inhomogeneous parts – visual and verbal. The object of the research is Internet memes, as the most frequent cases of  creolized texts. The Internet meme is a single semantic entity, in which the visual and verbal parts are combined with each other in different ways. Memes, the verbal part of which is represented by the Latin saying "money does not smell" (pecunia non olet), were selected for the analysis. The purpose of the research is to study the parameters of semantic relations between text and images. The attention is drawn to diverse linguistic and creative forms of transformation and reinterpretation of this statement to create the effect of defeated expectancy. Techniques of language play in the texts of the verbal part also contribute to the achievement of a humorous effect.

Ash is a waste product of different commercial activities. For the paper industry, the disposal of this residue, which results from the combustion of the coal used in the production process, represents a problem. For this reason, its use in the production of concrete blocks has been evaluated. The objective of this study is to compare the thermographic response of industrially-manufactured, non-structural concrete blocks that have been prepared with this ash. Additionally, the mechanical behavior of the blocks is compared when the ash is replaced on a percentage basis with cement. Likewise, substitutions of 10, 20, 30 and 40% of ash for cement were made for blocks that were prepared in accordance with quality control requirements of a concrete block plant. Specialized techniques such as X-ray diffraction and microscopy demonstrated the absence of toxic substances in the ash. The study re...

In this investigation, the elasto-plastic behavior and the seismic performance of concrete reinforced frame structures reinforced are evaluated by applying the Pushover method. This evaluation is done on several cases: with high ductility steel (Grade 40), conventional steel (Grade 60) and high strength steel (Grade 75). For the previous, the capacity curve graph obtained from the displacement coefficient method was used to measure the capacity of the structure. In addition, the performance of the structure for different levels of seismic design are evaluated with the resulting values of ductility and rigidity of each case. The results showed that reinforcing a structure with a Grade 40 reinforcing steel increases the energy dissipation capacity, and if reinforced with a Grade 75 reinforcing steel increases the strength capacity in the structure. Finally, the comparative result of the va...

The mechanical behavior of advanced composites can be modeled mathematically through unknown variables and Shear Strain Thickness Functions (SSTFs). Such SSTFs can be of polynomial or non-polynomial nature and some parameters of non-polynomial SSTFs can be optimized to get optimal results. In this paper, these parameters are called “r” and “s” and they are the argument of the trigonometric SSTFs introduced within the Carrera Unified Formulation (CUF). The Equivalent Single Layer (ESL) governing equations are obtained by employing the Principle of Virtual Displacement (PVD) and are solved using Navier method solution. Furthermore, trigonometric expansion with Murakami theory was implemented in order to reproduce the Zig-Zag effects which are important for multilayer structures. Several combinations of optimization parameters are evaluated and selected by different criteria of aver...

The objectives of this study are to evaluate the measurement invariance of the University of California Los Angeles Loneliness Scale (UCLA-LS) three-item version (UCLA-LS-3) in older adults in Peru and Spain, to compare the latent means of loneliness, and to evaluate the psychometric properties of the scale with Item Response Theory (IRT) models, and evaluate the possible moderating effects of the country on loneliness-health relationships. Peruvian sample was composed of 235 old adults from the city of Lima. The Spanish sample was composed of 443 old adults. The three-factor structure of RUCLA-3 anchored to the health measure fitted the data reasonably well in Spain and Peru. The R-UCLA-3 may be considered invariant for these two samples. The latent means of loneliness are different, the Peruvian average of loneliness being greater than that of Spain. The R-UCLA-3 is an invariant measur...

Speaking of ovarian tumors which are to be considered non-neoplastic there are differences of opinion. Thus, p. ex. Goodall (7) agree that follicular cysts and corpus luteum cysts are neoplasms; and many others including Barzilai (4) and Geist (6) classified among non-neoplastic tumors have no real growth of its structural elements, and finally, others such as Ahumada et al (1), considered undeserving even the name of tumors.

A digital image may contain objects that can be made up of multiple regions concerning different material properties, physical or chemical attributes. Thus, segmented simplicial meshes with non-manifold boundaries are generated to represent the partitioned regions. We focus on repairing non-manifold boundaries. Current methods modify the topology, geometry or both, using their own data structures. The problem of modifying the topology is that if the mesh has to be post-processed, for instance with the Delaunay refinement, the mesh becomes unsuitable. In this paper, we propose alternatives to repair non-manifold boundaries of segmented simplicial meshes, among them is the Delaunay based one, we use common data structures and only consider 2 and 3 dimensions. We developed algorithms for this purpose, composed of the following tools: relabeling, point insertion and simulated annealing. Thes...

In this work, a non-parametric and deterministic approach based on multidirectional efficiency analysis (MEA) is presented. The proposed model involves MEA with other important mathematical techniques in data analysis, such as the calculation of the NC value for the analysis of groups with different levels of efficiency. This model allows us to examine the factors that influence the behavior of decision-making units in different contexts such as business efficiency, educational quality, energy efficiency, circular economy, among others. Particularly in this work, we show the results obtained in 1787 Portuguese companies in the materials manufacturing sector (manufacture of wood and paper; manufacture of rubber products, plastics and other non-metallic mineral products; manufacture of common metals and metallic products, except machinery and equipment) in an eight-year period (2006-2013) ...

The eggshell membrane (ESM) is a biopolymer network that may have potential applications in biomedicine, but it also may reveal important details regarding the behaviour of biopolymer networks. In this paper, we have studied the mechanical and morphological properties of the ESM in order to reveal important structure-property relationships. Light optical microscopy and atomic force microscopy were used to assess the morphology of the ESM. The mechanical properties of membranes and individual fibres were studied by means of tensile tests and nanoindentation tests, respectively. The mechanical behaviour of ESM networks in different environmental conditions showed a non-linear and a linear regime. As for elastomers and other biopolymer systems, the non-linear regime was modelled by the Mooney-Rivlin relation. The Young's modulus in the linear regime of the network was related to the Young's...

Morfohistologic and quantitative aspects were studied of the ovary of the Fulica armillata during gonadal recrudescence phase. Were used 5 adult females. Morfohistologic analysis revealed the presence of numerous follicles at different stages of development and regression. The simple epithelium of granulosa cells characterized the primary oocytes and the pseudostratified granulosa cells the previtellogenic follicle, both types showed a marked Balbiani body. In the white and yellow vitellogenic follicles > 1 mm evidenced a complex follicular wall formed by the radiated area, stratified follicular epithelium and well-defined thecal enveloped, while the vitellogenic yellow > 3 mm, was observed a simple epithelium with basophilic cuboidal cells. We identified two types of follicular atresia:1)intact follicle wall or non-bursting, the involution takes place inside the follicle,comprisin...

This paper presents the results of a non-experimental cross-sectional study conducted under a mixed explanatory design (with manifest and latent variables), in an indigenous school in a rural area and an urban school in Morelos (Mexico). The sociodemographic context of the schools of origin was considered as a predictor variable of Mathematics achievement in 6th grade of primary school, and the educational level of the parents and family support were considered as mediating variables. At the end of 6th grade, students from both schools answered a scale on family support and a short test on two mathematical competencies: Communicating mathematical information and Using techniques efficiently. The data were analyzed with two structural regression models of relationships between manifest variables (school context and parents' educational level) and latent variables (family support with eigh...

Due to the increasing amount of data and the reduction of costs in 3D data acquisition devices, there has been a growing interest, in developing efficient and robust feature extraction algorithms for 3D shapes, invariants to isometric, topological and noise changes, among others. One of the key tasks for feature extraction in 3D shapes is the interest points detection; where interest points are salient structures, which can be used, instead of the whole object. In this research, we present a new approach to detect interest points in 3D shapes by analyzing the triangles that compose the mesh which represent the shape, in different way to other algorithms more complex such as Harris 3D or HKS. Our results and experiments of repeatability, confirm that our algorithm is stable and robust, in addition, the computational complexity is O(n log n), where n represents the number of faces of the m...

The objective of this study was to propose a structural model that delineates the relationship between different psychological characteristics in relation to mental health problems through a structural equation model. In a non-random, intentional sample of N = 231 students, the specified model demonstrates that anger-trait, self-denial and internal locus of control variables have effects on mental health problems through mediators such as anger-in, lack of assertiveness, and self-efficacy, and that they keep the expected theoretical relationships (X2 = 50.24, gl = 35 and p = 0.04; razón X2/gl = 1.44, CFI = .98, NFI = .93, IFI = .98, RMSEA = .04) These findings are discussed in terms of their contribution to understanding the mechanisms of the complex relationship among psychological characteristics, personality and health.

Morphological variation of reproductive structures of the Solanaceae in the Yanachaga- Chemillén National Park (Peru). This study analyzes the presence and variation of floral features in species of the Solanaceae family in three localities of the Yanachaga-Chemillén National Park (Perú) during the rainy season from Feb–Mar of 2009. The morphometric data collection of the flowers and fruits of 280 individuals, belonging to 47 species, collected in the towns of Paujil (400 m), Tunqui (1900 m) and San Daniel (2400 m) was analyzed. The quantitative data was analyzed using Spearman’s simple correlation, while for the qualitative data, a descriptive statistical analysis was performed. The analysis of the quantitative data indicates that there are statistically significant variation in the size of certain flower structures, which have a moderate negative correlation with their altitudin...
