The analysis of the evolution of modal properties and its relationship with changes in environmental properties (i.e. ambient temperature and relative humidity) is of high importance since their effects along time can mask the influence of structural damage. While structural monitoring studies to assess the relationship between modal parameters and environmental conditions are abundantly available for modern materials constructions (i.e. concrete or steel), very few studies are reported for adobe buildings. The present paper focuses on the study of the short and long-term structural behavior of existing adobe buildings through the long-term monitoring of ambient vibration and environmental conditions. With this purpose, the paper describes in detail the case study of the San Pedro Apostol Church of Andahuaylillas located in Cusco, inside the Andean region of Peru, a 16th-century church c...

Remote sensing is the technology that has enabled us to obtain information about the Earth's surface without directly contacting it. For this reason, currently, the Bolivian state has considered a list of interesting applications of remote sensing in the country, including the following: biodiversity and environment monitoring, mining and geology, epidemiology, agriculture, water resources and land use planning. The use of satellite images has become a great tool for epidemiology because with this technological advance we can determine the environment in which transmission occurs, the distribution of the disease and its evolution over time. In that context, one of the important diseases related to public health in Bolivia is Chagas disease, also known as South American Trypanosomiasis. Chagas is caused by a blood-sucking bug or Vinchuca, which causes serious intestinal and heart long ter...

Integration of the zircon U-Pb ages available on the Toquepala Group, La Caldera batholith (s.l.), and porphyry Cu systems, in combination with geochemical data, unravels the evolution of the magmatic arc of southernmost Peru during the Late Cretaceous and Early Paleogene. Arc magmatic production increased starting ~90 Ma, and culminated between ~74 and ~62 Ma through a flare-up characterized by large plutonic and volcanic (especially ignimbritic) volumes. This long process resulted in the thickening of the arc crust, to a state of overthickening that triggered its extensional collapse, starting diachronously 61–59 Ma, during which giant porphyry Cu systems were emplaced between ~60 and ~53 Ma. Our empirical reconstruction of this protracted evolution provides simple guides for exploration of giant porphyry Cu deposits in southern Peru, as well as a magmatotectonic theoretical framewor...

This dissertation investigates the potential improvement of volcanic eruption understanding and forecasting methods by using advanced data processing techniques to analyze large datasets at three target volcanoes (Piton de la Fournaise (PdlF) (France), Sabancaya, and Ubinas (Peru)). The central objective of this study is to search for possible empirical relationships between the pre-eruptive behavior of the accelerated increase in seismic activity using the Failure Forecast Method (FFM) and velocity variations measured by Coda Wave Interferometry (CWI), since both observations are reported to be independently associated with medium damage. The FFM is a deterministic method used to forecast volcanic eruptions using an empirical relationship of increased and accelerated evolution of an observable (e.g., volcano-seismic event rates). The event rates used with FFM in this study were generate...

Trypanosomatids are a group of kinetoplastid parasites including some of great public health importance, causing debilitating and life-long lasting diseases that affect more than 24 million people worldwide. Among the trypanosomatids, Trypanosoma cruzi, Trypanosoma brucei and species from the Leishmania genus are the most well studied parasites, due to their high prevalence in human infections. These parasites have an extreme genomic and phenotypic variability, with a massive expansion in the copy number of species-specific multigene families enrolled in host-parasite interactions that mediate cellular invasion and immune evasion processes. As most trypanosomatids are heteroxenous, and therefore their lifecycles involve the transition between different hosts, these parasites have developed several strategies to ensure a rapid adaptation to changing environments. Among these strategies, a...

The adoption system in Colombia faces many challenges in the face of the high percentage of children who cannot be placed in a family. The purpose of this study was to analyze the pitfalls in the Colombian adoption system. The methodology used was based on theoretical-legal and empirical research. When inquiring about the main aspects of the adoption system we found that, despite the evolution of regulations and case law, the process is lengthy and difficult, thus many minors are institutionalized for a long time, thus many minors are institutionalized for a long time and potential adoptive families desist from adoption. Adoption is a choice based on love, on a deep conviction of welcoming a new member into the family; it is a measure to restore right and hence need to be addressed and prioritized by legal systems in general.

The article revised the history of the Bosque Nacional Alexander von Humboldt in 1965. Since the first forestry law in 1963. The usage model of forest resources on the peruvian Amazon has been in constant evolution due to diverse drivers at multiple scales, as for example the changes in the country’s economic model. As a long process of changes on national politics framework of forest management, there has been a loss of important referents. A distinct example of this was the first forestry law with its tool on forest management: Bosques Nacionales (National Forests). The motive behind this research is to make evidence of the evolution process on the national politics of Bosques Nacionales by the case study of the Bosque Nacional Alexander von Humboldt by assessing spatial, economic and social dynamic at multiples scales of the constantly changing territory. We aim to comprehend the di...

It approaches the motor ontogenesis in all its dynamics. It conceives human motor learning as a functional system, where capacities, skills, habits and abilities, constitute the integral elements of this system. It analyzes in detail each one of the «sections» of the dialectic spiral which its evolution becomes, from its departure point: the capacity, to its destination the ability. The last one is identified as the maximum level of profit or experience at which the apprentice arrives after a long process from formation, consolidation and improvement. It considers the process of formation of abilities from a holística and transdisciplinar perspective. Even though one talks about the field of the sport motor action and intends to explain the process of learning and motor improvement, postulates that the underlying theory can generalized to any type of learning, independently of the dis...

The visualization of areas, volumes, topologies and perspectives objects that stay in our environment are making by ours eyes and brain, which have a long evolution through millions years ago. This ensemble between eyes and brain must be simulated by technology in which an artificial intelligence entity take an autonomous decision based on data information acquired by sensors and computer vision. The fidelity of acquired information from the environment is the fundamental key for a good decision. In this context, the cameras and optical lens miniaturization involves distortions which modify the acquired images of areas, volumes, topologies and perspectives objects. In the present work, we make a calibration process of optical cameras which involves radial and tangential distortions, and using OpenCV libraries we calculate the intrinsics and extrinsics parameters which permit us to obtain...

This paper analyzes the main factors behind pension expenditures and projects their evolution to 2075 in four Latin American countries: Chile, Peru, Colombia, and Mexico. Pension expenditures are defined as those included in the national budget and allocated to specific benefit plans and to non-contributory pensions. Using a model developed by Clements et al. (2013), it was found that, currently, expenditures are between 1.8 and 6.4 percent of GDP. However, they will rise between 2 and 4 times by 2075, mainly due to population aging. Two simulations were conducted. The first boosted the aging process while the second assumed universal coverage of non-contributory pensions. Expenditures significantly increased in both scenarios and it is recommended that countries pay more attention to aging and its consequences in the long run, especially to the fiscal sustainability of pension systems, ...
