This article explains how the family productive strategies of farmer settlers and their perceptions of the forest influence the rate of deforestation. This particular approach, based on the analysis of endogenous processes, seeks to contextualize and understand how farmers operate within a context of «forest transition», as a result of significant economic changes, market expansion and road infrastructuredevelopment. Our central argument is that the farmers’ strategies in Tena, in relation to the rate of deforestation on their farms, are a result of the combination of a set of economic processes of survival in the short and medium term and of their mental or cultural perceptions of the forest. Such endogenous processes arenot only responses to external contexts but are also derived from demographic cycles and accumulation dynamics that occur within the families of producers.

Land abandonment and forest succession in the Polish Carpathians have led to varied impacts on the landscape, from biodiversity benefits to the loss of sociocultural agricultural practices. This study investigates the impacts of land abandonment and forest succession in the Polish Carpathians, focusing on forest regeneration and wolf repopulation from 1970 to 2013. The relationship between increasing forest cover and interface areas is examined. Wild-Urban (WUI), evaluating whether this forest growth provides suitable habitats for wolves. The research contemplates the interaction between forest expansion and human presence, highlighting how the proliferation of human settlements affects the suitability of habitats for large carnivores. The establishment of natural protected areas is one of the most effective strategies to conserve forests and their biodiversity; however, the uncontrolled advance of deforestation resulting from the change of use to expand the agricultural frontier has become a threat to these intangible areas. This research aimed to analyze the dynamics of forest cover in Parque Nacional Tingo María (PNTM) and its buffer zone (ZA) located in the high jungle of the Huánuco region of Peru. The main input was Sentinel-2 images that were classified using the Random Forest algorithm. The evergreen piedmont forests of the Biological Station Pindo Mirador, province of Pastaza, Ecuador, have been poorly studied, proposing with the research, to characterize the tree structure of the secondary piedmont evergreen forest in a sector of the forest area of the Station, providing information for the protection actions that are developed. Four plots of 0,1 ha were established covering a sampling area of 0,4 ha; all trees with D1.30 from the soil ≥ 10 cm were measured, determining their absolute height, and four diametric classes and similar number of height ranges were established with the records. Context: Gold mining is the most destructive activity in the natural forests of the Madre de Dios region in the southeastern Peruvian Amazon. Understanding the natural regeneration process of these degraded areas is necessary to develop forest restoration projects in such conditions. Aims: We aimed to evaluate forest recovery and identify the successional and structure patterns of vegetation governing natural regeneration over time. A new species of Bryophryne (Anura: Strabomantidae) from the Cordillera de Vilcabamba, southeastern Peruvian Andes. We describe a new species of Bryophryne from the Cordillera de Vilcabamba in Department Cusco, in the southeastern Peruvian Andes. The new species differs from all other congeneric taxa, except B. flammiventris and B. gymnotis, by possessing a weakly defined tympanic membrane and tympanic annulus, by the presence of vocal sac and vocal slits in males, and by producing advertisement calls. The new species is distinguished from B. flammiventris and B. gynznotis by skin texture, presence of small, oblique dentigerous processes on the vomer, ventral coloration ranging from bluish-gray to whitish-gray with irregular or reticulate dark brown spots, and call composed of two or three notes. Los Andes están considerados como los puntos calientes más diversos de los trópicos, dentro de estos se encuentra el Parque Nacional del Manu, cuyas complejas condiciones climáticas y fisiográficas albergan una mega-diversidad y endemismo. En el presente trabajo se presenta una lista anotada de especies arbóreas y afines a lo largo de un gradiente de elevación desde los bosques submontanos a 800 m hasta la línea de bosque a 3625 m en la Reserva de Biosfera del Manu. En base a una red de 21 parcelas permanentes de una hectárea y exploraciones botánicas se sistematiza la información florística por rangos de elevación, distribución geográfica y endemismo. The tropical Andes and adjacent Amazon are Earth’s highest biodiversity hotspot. Manu National Park in southeastern Peru encompasses an entire watershed, ranging from Andean highlands to Amazonian lowlands, and is a megadiverse landscape on the Andes to Amazon transition. Here we present an annotated checklist of trees and related species is along an elevation gradient in the Manu Biosphere Reserve that runs from sub-montane forests at 800 m elevation up to the tree line at 3625 m. Based on a network of 21 1-hectare permanent tree plots and botanical explorations, the floristic information is systematized by elevation ranges, geographical distribution and endemism. Este estudio proporciona una lista comentada de las especies de Pitcairnioideae (Bromeliaceae) del departamento de Lambayeque, Perú. Se reporta un total de cinco especies, una de ellas por primera vez para la zona de estudio y dos representan endemismos norperuanos. Las ecoregiones donde se encuentran corresponden al Desierto Cálido Tropical (DCT), Bosque Seco estacional (BSe), la transición Matorral Desértico-Bosque Seco (MD-BS) y el Bosque Pluvial Montano del Noroeste (BPMN), en las tres provincias del departamento. Se discuten las razones de endemismos, amenazas y criterios de categorización de estas.

Tropical peat swamp forests (PSF) are characterized by high quantities of carbon (C) stored as organic soil deposits due to waterlogged conditions which slows down decomposition. Globally, Peru has one of the largest expanse of tropical peatlands, located primarily within the Pastaza-Marañón river basin in the Northwestern Peru. Peatland forests in Peru are dominated by a palm species—Mauritia flexuosa, and M. flexuosa-dominated forests cover ~ 80% of total peatland area and store ~ 2.3 Pg C. However, hydrologic alterations, land cover change, and anthropogenic disturbances could lead to PSF’s degradation and loss of valuable ecosystem services. This research study was conducted in the sector "Pabloyacu" located in the district and province of Moyobamba, Department of San Martín Peru, aiming to evaluate the characteristics of trees from forest timber species predominant in the watershed of the creek Pabloyacu, as this will contribute to existing knowledge ofthe flora in the area. Tremarctos ornatus es el único úrsido que se encuentra en Sudamérica y su mayor área de ocupación está en el Perú. Esta especie habita ecosistemas muy diversos desde los 250 hasta 4750 msnm. El estado de conservación en que se encuentra el oso andino en el Perú es de Vulnerable desde el 2014. En el presente trabajo se realizó un análisis de la dieta de T. ornatus, a nivel de los compuestos alimentarios de 22 excretas. El muestreo se realizó durante los meses de Abril y Mayo del 2014, durante un periodo de 10 días, abarcando los ecosistemas de Páramo, Transición y Bosque Montano en el distrito de Pacaipampa, departamento de Piura.
