It is important for small growing textile companies to make key decisions based on accurate and reliable information about the present production process and how future changes could affect them. Using traditional mathematical methods it is not possible to accurately and reliably reflect the real stochastic behaviour of processes and activities carried out in this industry. There are, however, information technologies such as the computer simulation technique that allow such information to be obtained taking this behaviour into account.he research carried out a simulation study of the garment making process of a small textile company in order to propose a better distribution of resources by experimenting with a simulation model of the process, In addition, some of the quantitative information obtained with this technique is presented. The results obtained show that making changes in assi...

In this article, a simulation model was developed to propose and evaluate improvements that increase the productivity of the production process of a manufacturing company and at the same time help achieve the company's objectives, for which the Promodel simulation software was used. The study begins with the conceptualization of the model explaining the operation of the production process of the company, detailing the transactions used in the operations and then presenting the layout of the model with the different locations, entities and resources provided by the production process. And finally the results of the model are transcribed with the new values of the variables that intervene in the process and with these values compare it with the current ones and obtain the conclusions of productivity improvement.

Original abstract: This paper studies the lake dynamics for avalanche-triggered glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) in the Cordillera Blanca mountain range in Ancash, Peru. As new glacial lakes emerge and existing lakes continue to grow, they pose an increasing threat of GLOFs that can be catastrophic to the communities living downstream. In this work, the dynamics of displacement waves produced from avalanches are studied through three-dimensional hydrodynamic simulations of Lake Palcacocha, Peru, with an emphasis on the sensitivity of the lake model to input parameters and boundary conditions. This type of avalanche-generated wave is an important link in the GLOF process chain because there is a high potential for overtopping and erosion of the lake-damming moraine. The lake model was evaluated for sensitivity to turbulence model and grid resolution, and the uncertainty due to these m...

Debris flows are geophysical phenomena, caused by torrential rain, which occur in mountainous areas, characterized by the detachment of slope and riverbed materials and their consequent dislodge through watersheds and streams. Debris flows usually carry sludge, water and rocks, and can destroy everything in their path. On February 8th, 2019, an event of this type occurred and destroyed Mirave’s community in Peru, which was located in the areas of transport and deposition of debris flows. This research presents the modeling and numerical simulation to reproduce the transport and deposition processes of the debris flow that occurred in Mirave. The initiation process of the debris flow in streams was represented by hydrographs obtained from the estimated rain runoff volumes and solid materials found at each evaluated micro watershed. The numerical simulation results show acceptable result...

The ability of the WRF-ARW (Weather Research and Forecasting-Advanced Research WRF) model to forecast extreme rainfall in the Central Andes of Peru is evaluated in this study, using observations from stations located in the Mantaro basin and GOES (Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite) images. The evaluation analyzes the synoptic conditions averaged over 40 extreme event cases, and considers model simulations organized in 4 nested domains. We first establish that atypical events in the region are those with more than 27 mm of rainfall per day when averaging over all the stations. More than 50% of the selected cases occurred during January, February, and April, with the most extreme occurring during February. The average synoptic conditions show negative geopotential anomalies and positive humidity anomalies in 700 and 500 hPa. At 200 hPa, the subtropical upper ridge or “Bol...

This study presents a Bayesian calibration framework for 2D hydraulic models using convolutional neural networks (CNNs) as surrogate emulators of TELEMAC-2D. Applied to the Lower Piura River Basin in northern Peru, the method estimates spatially distributed Manning's roughness coefficients while accounting for structural model error. A CNN trained on a simulation ensemble predicts flood depth under varying roughness scenarios, enabling substantial computational savings. The emulator is embedded in a Bayesian inference scheme with a Gaussian Process discrepancy model to capture systematic deviations. Validation with synthetic scenarios demonstrates accurate roughness retrieval in hydraulically sensitive areas. Additionally, a real-case validation was performed using PeruSAT-1, a high-resolution Earth observation satellite operated by the Peruvian Space Agency (CONIDA), acquired during the...

Glaciers in Peruvian Andes play an important role for local hydrology. To quantify the availability of glacier meltwater in a climate change scenario, surface energy (SEB) and mass balance (MB) models are required. However, few studies of SEB and MB modeling using coupled process-based models were carried out for this region. In this study, we use the newly updated COupled Snowpack and Ice surface energy and mass balance model in PYthon (COSIPY) in its 2-dimesnional spatially distributed version to simulate energy and mass fluxes over Artesonraju Glacier, Peruvian Andes, from 2016 to 2018. A glacier mass balance program was started at this glacier in 1995, with installation of a network of 22 ablation stakes and two automatic weather stations were started operating since 2005. COSIPY is forced by weather parameters like solar radiation, air temperature, relativity humidity, air pressure,...

The climate of South America (SA) has long held an intimate connection with El Niño, historically describing anomalously warm sea-surface temperatures off the coastline of Peru. Indeed, throughout SA, precipitation and temperature exhibit a substantial, yet regionally diverse, relationship with the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO). For example, El Niño is typically accompanied by drought in the Amazon and north-eastern SA, but flooding in the tropical west coast and south-eastern SA, with marked socio-economic effects. In this Review, we synthesize the understanding of ENSO teleconnections to SA. Recent efforts have sought improved understanding of ocean–atmosphere processes that govern the impact, inter-event and decadal variability, and responses to anthropogenic warming. ENSO’s impacts have been found to vary markedly, affected not only by ENSO diversity, but also by modes...

South America’s hydroclimate sustains vibrant communities and natural ecosystems of extraordinary biodiversity including the Andes Cordillera, and the Orinoco, La Plata, and Amazon basins. Global warming and land-use change are endangering ecosystem health, exacerbating hydrometeorological extremes, and threatening water and food security for millions of people on the continent (Castellanos et al. 2022). Reductions in rainfall and streamflow have been observed in southern Amazonia, the Cerrado region, northeast Brazil, and Chile (Muñoz et al. 2020; Garreaud et al. 2020; Espinoza et al. 2019; Fu et al. 2013). The increased aridity has affected agricultural yield, water supply for reservoirs, hydropower generation and impacted tens of millions of people in the large metropolitan areas of Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Santiago de Chile (Nobre et al. 2016). Andean glaciers, an important ...
