Geopolymers are a class of inorganic synthetic materials that in recent years have received extensive interest of the scientific community, mainly due to the variety of applications in which they can be used. The synthesis of these materials is based on a chemical process called geopolymerization, which consists of the alkaline activation of amorphous alumina and silica oxides present in many natural raw materials and industrial solid waste. Therefore, the present work proposes the use of inorganic mining residues (mine tailings) from gold mining in the southern region of Peru, for the manufacture of geopolymeric concrete. The first part of the research focused on the physical, structural and microstructural characterization of the raw material (fine sand and mining tailings), then the volumetric matrix of mixtures for five types of geopolymer concrete was determined. Cylindrical samples...

The purpose of this article is to compare alternatives for the reuse of organic solid waste generated by catering services, this research will be carried out by verifying studies no older than 5 years to date, denoting their progress in each method. to be used, by comparing the methods and results of each study, in order to define the best reuse alternative, taking into account the cost benefit, the advantages, disadvantages and the feasibility of each study. Therefore, in the present investigation, the result was to opt for the reuse of composting, because it is a process that generates great profits at little cost, in general 80% of organic waste is reused, on the other hand, we have the use through the generation of energy by obtaining biogas, being a slightly more complicated process due to the higher incidence in cost/benefit of this reuse alternative. Therefore, the article conclud...

Texture is an important visual property which has been largely employed for image characterization. Recently, Convolutional Networks has been the predominant approach on Computer Vision, and their application on texture analysis shows interesting results. However, their popularity steers around object recognition, and several convolutional architectures have been proposed and trained for this task. Therefore, this works evaluates 17 of the most diffused Deep Convolutional Neural Networks when employed for texture analysis as feature extractors. Image descriptors are obtained through Global Average Pooling over the output of the last convolutional layer of networks with random weights or learned from the ImageNet dataset. The analysis is performed under 6 texture datasets and using 3 different supervised classifiers (KNN, LDA, and SVM). Results using networks with random weights indicates...

Tuberculosis (TB) control efforts are hampered by a mismatch in diagnostic technology. Lack of adequate early diagnostics and Multi-drug resistant (MDR) detection is a critical problem in control efforts. Alternate and novel diagnostic approaches are required, especially in low-resources settings where they are needed most. The Microscopic Observation Drug Susceptibility (MODS) assay is a cost-effective, highly sensitive, and specific method based on the detection of characteristic cording growth patterns of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB), in microscopic examination of a liquid culture under an inverted microscope. By adding antimicrobials to the wells, MODS also determines antimicrobial susceptibility in both MDR and Extreme Drug Resistant (XDR) tuberculosis. The interpretation of a MODS culture performed in a 24 well plate, requires an extensive inspection over the entire surface to ...

Biomorphic SiC/Si compounds were fabricated from copaiba wood (Copaifera officinalis, natural wood native to Peru), by reactive infiltration of molten silicon in a porous carbon preform obtained by a controlled pyrolysis process of wood. Structural and microstructural characterization tests by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy, respectively, revealed, on the one hand, the presence of crystalline phases of SiC, Si and C, and on the other, the typical morphology of this type of material, which it consists of a continuous SiC scaffold with elongated channels in the direction of tree growth and the presence of residual Si and C located mainly in the porosities of the material. The mechanical behavior in uniaxial compression was also studied at a constant compression rate of 0.05 mm/min and as a function of temperature (from ambient to 1400 ºC) and test atmosphere (ambient a...

The present work was developed in the Department of Apurímac, Province of Abancay, in the Unitary Operations Labora-tory of the Professional Academic School of Agroindustrial Engineering. The main objective of the research was to determi-ne which mechanical elements influence the drying time. The problem in the dryers is the consumption of energy therefore the fans that drive the air are incorporated to reduce drying time and also increases the turbulence of the air but the expen-diture of the electric power in higher, the research was developed to optimize the drying time in a fluidized bed dryer, JAR-CON, Model SLFT-60-240X, the method used for the determination of humidity is AOAC (2005) and the design applied was the complete random block (22 * 3) to evaluate the variables of answers, manipulating two factors such as the fan and ex-tractor. The most important conclusions were, the s...

Wetlands provide multiple ecosystem services that multiply the social, economic, and environmental development of the population; However, these problems undergo environmental problems that accelerate the eutrophication process. The purpose of this research was to evaluate the trophic states of Medio Mundo’s main lagoon of the Albufera Regional Conservation (ACRAMM). For this, the Carlson Trophic State Index modified by Toledo (IETM) was used and a predictive mathematical model for the total water phosphorus was formulated; where the dependent variable was represented by the parameter and the independent ones, by the reflections of Sentinel-2 images. The ACRAMM, according to the phosphorus model, was eutrophic on the first 5 dates evaluated (IETMPT> 65.56) and from oligotrophic to eutrophic with a tendency to increase from south to north on the last date (IETMPT = 38.29-56.99). Thes...

Different drying accelerators were studied to improve vegetable drying: acetone (AC), ethanol (ET), isopropanol (ISO) and acetic acid (AA). Pre-treatments were performed by immersion of pumpkin cylinders. Convective drying was performed at 40 degrees C and air velocity 1 m/s. Different aspects were evaluated: drying kinetics, structural changes (microstructure and macrostructure), thermal profile and viscoelastic and rehydration behaviours. The microstructure was modified by pre-treatments, being more pronounced with AC and AA. Thinner cell walls, changes on turgor and extraction of components and air were reported, affecting the mass transfer. Moreover, the microstructural changes reinforced anisotropy and also affected the macrostructure, changing the viscoelastic behaviour. All pre-treatments resulted in a super-diffusive behaviour, decreasing the drying time from 9% (ISO) to 22% (AC)...
