Some dye-sensitized solar cells were prepared using TiO2 modified with CuO (TiO2-CuO) like a working electrode. P25 commercial powder and small amounts of CuO powder were used in preparing the modified coating. The coating was deposited following doctor Blade method, on a conductive substrate SnO2:F, which was previously deposited on a TiO2 blocking layer by spray pyrolysis technique. For sensitization of the coating, a ruthenium complex, cis-bis (isothiocyanate) bis (2,2'bipiridil-4,4'dicarboxilato) ruthenium (II) ammonium bistetrabutil, also known as N719, was used. The CuO powder was structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction and its morphology was studied by scanning electron microscopy. The functional groups of TiO2 and CuO were studied by infrared spectroscopy. The oxidation and reduction cycles of Cu were shown by cyclic voltammetry. Through incident photon to current convers...

In this work, it has been studied the influence of oxygenated functional groups on adsorption property of an activated carbon (CA), which was prepared from aguaje seeds (Mauritia flexuosa L. F.) by a chemical activation with phosphoric acid. Later the activated carbon was oxidized with nitric acid. The adsorptive capacity of phenolic compounds such as phenol, 4-chlorophenol and 4-nitrophenol were compared using both of the adsorbents, the activated carbon (CA) and the oxidized activated carbon (ACA). The characterizations of both activated carbons were analyzed by nitrogen adsorption measurements, Boehm titration, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and FTIR spectroscopy. The oxidized sample (ACA) showed an increase in the microporous area from 756 m2/g to 1272 m2/g, likewise ACA presented an increase in the concentration of oxygenated functional groups from 4,22 mmolH+.g-1 to 4,82 mmolH+...

This study analyzes the relationship that presents 11 aromatic compounds with heterocyclic Schiff bases and substituted in position meta and para with antioxidant activity, using the method UB3LYP/6-311G(d,p) within density functional theory. We determine the parameters: bond dissociation enthalpy (BDE), ionization potential (IP), protons dissociation enthalpy (PDE), affinity of protons (PA), electrons transfer enthalpy (ETE) and radical stabilization energy (RSE), all in gaseous phase. The results show that electrodonorssubstituents increases BDE when they are in position para, IP in position meta and para and ETE in position para. In addition, the electroatractors cause an increase in PDE and PA at position meta and para.
