The constant challenge of increasing quality in the manufacture of green building components and the lack of standards for the prediction of tensile strength is becoming a relevant challenge. For this reason, this research is focused on the development of a logarithmic function that relates the compressive and tensile strength of compressed earth bricks (CEB). To this purpose, the study examines the influence of different cement dosages (7%, 15% and 20%), drying days (7, 14, 21 and 28 days) and establishes critical correlations between tensile and compressive strengths. Key results indicate a proportional relationship between strength and cement dosage, with an optimal balance identified for maximum performance. A comparison was made between the proposed dosages, where the optimum was 20% cement at 28 days. In addition, a "significant positive" correlation coefficient of 0.77 is observed...

The building of modern housing concrete is a fundamental element that intervenes. On the other hand, in the construction of bridges, dams, tunnels, this is in the construction of non‐standard civil engineering structures, the concrete that is used is the high performance (CAR) that apart from the basic components such as water, Cement, fine and coarse aggregates, contain other cementing additives, such as microsílices. The problem is to get a technological resource that helps predict the resistance of CAR from its manufacturing data, but this is impossible. However, we have artificial neural networks that fulfill this role, which after being transformed into true mathematical functions that approximate the expected values ??of the resistance of concrete specimens. The approximation level is estimated by the correlation between the response and the expected value of the network. It is ...

Compressive strength and elasticity modulus are the main mechanical properties of concrete. The non-destructive ultrasound pulse test can be used to determine these properties without compromising the structure’s integrity. This study seeks to assess whether a correlation exists (1) between the Reinforcement Index (RI) and the mechanical properties, (2) between the RI and the dynamic properties, and (3) among the dynamic properties of polypropylene fiber-reinforced concrete. The RI was modified through fiber volume fraction (0, 0.4, 0.8 and 1.2%) and fiber length (40, 50 and 60 mm). The dynamic properties were assessed through dynamic elasticity modulus and ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV), which were determined by direct, semi-direct, and indirect prospect methods. Finally, compressive strength, static elasticity modulus, and Poisson’s ratio were assessed through destructive tests. T...

Cold joints represent concrete flaws resulting from different pouring times needed to complete a structural unit. The current investigation focuses on examining the reduction in compressive strength of concrete with cold joints at different pouring intervals through the development of an analytical model that describes the effectiveness of the use of two adhesion bridges to bond the new concrete to old concrete. To obtain the necessary data, compressive strength experimentation of concrete specimens with cold joints is carried out. The samples were manufactured under on-site conditions to ensure that the results presented faithfully reflect reality in construction projects in Lima, Peru. Furthermore, ANSYS is used to model the samples, which facilitates a more detailed analysis of their strength, and allows obtaining the friction coefficient of the interface zone as a function of the app...

The high performance concrete is a relatively recent material and its use dates of final of the 60’s. However, countless advantages make it to be used more and more in the construction. Its manufacturing comes from the standard concrete to which a series of additives as microsílica or cementitious are added. These additives confer the concrete some better benefits regarding the standard concrete as an increase of the near resistance up to 100%. The mechanical properties of this concrete newly are being studied in detail and at the moment there are not many studies about the influence of the additives in the resistance, formulation optimizations or the evolution of the resistance to compression with the time of curing. Over all the mechanical properties of the concrete, the resistance to compression after 28 days of curing is the most used one in control of quality. In this study the i...

This paper involves a practical approach to perform quality-control/quality-assessment of concrete using vibration-based NDT. The first component is the analysis of compressive strength and dynamic E-modulus of concrete samples from various construction projects. The second component involves continuous measurements of E-Moduli as a function of curing time in laboratory-controlled specimens. The experimental program allowed proposing a correlation to predict the expected static and dynamic E-modulus at 28 days from their measurement at any instant of the curing process. A similar relationship is proposed to predict compressive strength at 28 days based on the dynamic E-modulus measured at earlier ages.

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is a widely used material in container manufacturing, particularly in bottle production. It is characterized by its low cost and widespread availability. However, its improper disposal has significantly exacerbated global plastic pollution. For instance, less than 50% of plastic bottles are recycled. Moreover, studies indicate that this issue has led to a significant accumulation of plastic waste in the oceans, which continues to grow annually and could be considered floating islands of debris. This study proposes replacing PET with polylactic acid (PLA), a biodegradable and biocompatible polymer with suitable properties for bottle production. PLA also has a shorter decomposition time compared to PET, contributing to the reduction of carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions. The research methodology included a diagnostic phase to define objectives, i...

Photoluminescence is revolutionizing construction, especially in concrete pavements and structures, by offering both aesthetic and functional improvements. Photoluminescent pigments, which store and emit light, can positively influence the physical-mechanical properties of concrete. This study examines pigments such as strontium aluminate, zinc silicate, zinc phosphate and calcium fluorescence, evaluating their emission life and their impact on the compressive strength and durability of concrete. Photoluminescent pigments absorb light energy and release it in the form of visible light, providing prolonged luminescence. Strontium aluminate stands out for its high intensity and durability, significantly improving the compressive strength of concrete. Zinc phosphate also offers long emission and is highly resistant to moisture. Zinc silicate improves wear resistance, while calcium fluoresce...
