A combined experimental/analytical approach for an efficient evaluation of stiffness and characteristic curves of fiber reinforced plastic volute springs is presented in this work. Before performing the analysis mentioned in previous lines, in the early chapters, it can find the most common types of fibers, resins (matrices) and manufacturing processes used to produce composite laminates been briefly described. It also describes the analytical approaches that currently exist to determine the elastic constants of composites such as the longitudinal and transversal modulus, Poisson’s ratios and shear moduli; it also describes the improved and semi-empirical formulas to calculate the effective shear moduli and the transversal modulus. At the end of the chapter, some manufacturing methods of fiber reinforced plastic springs are described. Since fiber reinforced plastic volute springs are n...

Purpose. This paper aims to examine the valuation precision of composite models in each of six key industries in South Africa. The objective is to ascertain whether equity-based composite multiples models produce more accurate equity valuations than optimal equity-based, single-factor multiples models. Design/methodology/approach. This study applied principal component regression and various mathematical optimisation methods to test the valuation precision of equity-based composite multiples models vis-à-vis equity-based, single-factor multiples models. Findings. The findings confirmed that equity-based composite multiples models consistently produced valuations that were substantially more accurate than those of single-factor multiples models for the period between 2001 and 2010. The research results indicated that composite models produced up to 67 per cent more accurate valuations th...

The anterior sector problems are very common in our professional practice and became vital importance to make a suitable rehabilitation in these cases; we can not do a good rehabilitation if we do not know the basic characteristics, both aesthetic and functional. Today the composites are a valid alternative for the restoration of the anterior sector, since they offer to us a conservative and aesthetic possibility, but independently of the material to use we have to based on certain rules or parameters to realize a suitable rehabilitation. In this article the basic criteria to keep in mind are detailed to restore the anterior sector as well as the skills on having used composites.

The evolution of direct restorative materials for posterior dental pieces has led to the generation of simpler processes that are easier for the clinician to perform. This is how bulk fill composite resins arise, in order to simplify the technique and provide the clinician with speed and practicality when performing the restoration. Although it is true that these materials have been used, there is still a lot of ignorance on the side of the professional about how to use them correctly. In addition to certain limitations in published research since they are relatively new materials on the market. This research aims to review the literature in indexed databases to date on bulk fill resins, detailing clinical trials, composition and classification.

Owing their wide range of exceptional properties, for example thermal conductivity values of more than 3000W/(mK) and strength in the range of 100 GPa, Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) have recently gained much attention as reinforcement for composite materials. Considering the practical application in metal matrix composites (MMCs), tranferring those favourable properties from nano to macro scale represents a main challenge. Methods of the powder metallurgy route show promising results so far, but also lead to long process times and damage of the tublar structure of the CNTs due to prolonged ball milling times. At this point, the application of Friction Stir Processing (FSP) for fabricating CNT-reinforced MMCs offers the possibility to reduce process times and realize the required reinforcement at the relevant location of the component. The process uses a specially designed tool with a pin to pl...

The brain-gut-microbiota axis is a bidirectional complex that connects the central nervous system with the digestive system. Alterations in the composition of the intestinal microbiota have been linked to the presence of digestive and extradigestive diseases such as neuropsychiatric diseases. Dysbiosis predisposes to the appearance of alterations in intestinal permeability, which facilitates the release of neurotransmitters and cytokines that generate favorable conditions for the appearance of a state known as neuroinflammation, which seems to be key in the physiopathogenesis of neuropsychiatric diseases. Based on these data, the modulation of the microbiota through changes in diet, antibiotics and probiotics could be a useful alternative, not only for the treatment of digestive diseases but also extra-digestive disorders such as neuropsychiatric diseases.

Software Process Improvement (SPI) models are a very important topic for SPI workers as software engineering students that require a good comprehension of the process assessment models. This paper proposes a visual multi-layered representational model describing in a highly practical way the ISO/IEC 33000 Assessment Framework through of structural and behavioural views. This kind of representation comprises several semantic layers based on the dimensions of the key elements of the model with an additional dimension for specifying measurements. The structural elements of the model are assigned on distinct layers and connected through dependence and co-occurrence connector in applying the Assessment Model on software processes. The representation model was tested with software developers, academic experts and students.

We tend to see objectification as a negative act in clinical practice, yet Svenaeus makes us reflect that it has in fact allowed for a better understanding of the functioning and composition of the body. In this article, from his epistemological proposal, we will address the good and the bad forms of objectification in the nutritional practice of adolescents with large bodies by using visualization technologies, specifically electrical bioimpedance. Finally, from a hermeneutics and phenomenology standpoint, we propose that in nutritional practice, in addition to treating the biological body, we also treat the lived body of adolescents, based on listening to and understanding their being/existence in the world.

Livestock production in the high Andes is vital for rural livelihoods and food security but is limited by poor pasture quality, environmental variability, and restricted resources. Pasture improvement, achieved through management practices and particularly through fertilization, may enhance productivity and sustainability in high-Andean livestock systems. This study aimed to characterize mixed herds composed of domestic sheep (Ovis aries), alpacas (Vicugna pacos), llamas (Lama glama), and domestic cattle (Bos taurus) and to evaluate the role of pasture fertilization on herd composition and livestock size. Primary data were collected through structured questionnaires administered to 88 randomly selected livestock producers, complemented by direct field observations of grazing areas, corrals, shelters, and water sources. The survey documented herd structure, grazing management, pasture con...

Grassland ecosystems cover about 25% of the Earth’s surface, providing essential ecosystem services that benefit nature, people, and food security. This study evaluated agronomic and nutritional parameters of ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) based on fertilization levels and cutting frequency in the Amazonas department. The INIA 910—Kumymarca variety was used with nitrogen fertilization rates (0, 60, 120, 180 kg/ha) and cutting intervals of 30 and 45 days for agronomic traits and 30, 45, and 60 days for nutritional traits. A randomized complete block design with eight treatments and three replications was applied. Repeated measures analysis and Tukey’s mean comparison tests (p < 0.005) were performed, along with Pearson correlation and response surface analysis using the central composite design in R. The results showed that applying 180 kg/ha of nitrogen with a 45-day cutting in...

The present instrumental study aimed to describe the psychometric properties of the Coping with Pre-Exam Anxiety and Uncertainty Scale (COPEAU-A) in Chilean university students. 230 first-year students from a university in the north of Chile participated, where 67,4% were women and 32.6% men, with an average age of 18,9 years. By confirmatory factor analysis, using a robust weighted least squares method (WLSMV), five models were compared, finding the best fit indicators in the composite of four oblique factors with 20 ítems (X2=228,795, gl=164, p<,01; X2/gl=1,395; TLI=,929; CFI=,939; RMSEA=,042). The reliability of the four factors was adequate, showing McDonald's Omega coefficients between ω=,716 and ω=,873. In turn, the results showed the factorial invariance of the instrument according to sex. It is concluded that the psychometric properties of COPEAU-A would support its use to ...
