Regardless of the difficult scenario facing the Paris Agreement with the recent withdrawal of the US, Peru will continue to comply with its international obligations and consolidating its national policies and frameworks related to climate change. Although Peru entered the international negotiation process late – basically from COP 20 onwards- it has had a decisive participation and influence in its outcome, the Paris Accord. Pero has for over a decade, been developing a robust internal architecture of norms and institutions, to launch the country towards a greener economy. With the difficulties that this means for a developing country like Peru, the future leads inevitably to the search of clean and environmentally friendly and sustainable economies.

Improved tools are required to deliver good information for decision-making on the potential socio-economic benefits of a transition to a low-carbon society. This article reports on modelling approaches to answer policy-relevant questions carried out research teams in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru and South Africa. The teams link detailed models of sectors with economy-wide models and report methodological findings. Combining bottom-up and top-down models holds the promise of addressing short and long-term time-frames technological change, economy-wide interactions, direct costs, emissions reductions, and broader socio-economic implications of mitigation. While making different choices of models, common challenges were identified around: communication between the two models; treatment of time; convergence criteria; trade-offs between model accuracy and requirements of stakeholder process...

Beekeeping plays an important role in global food production and the conservation of wild species. However, determining territorial suitability and future distribution under climate change scenarios is a relatively under-studied area in Peru. This study assessed the beekeeping suitability of the Amazonas region and its variation under climate change scenarios in two projected periods (2041-2060 and 2081-2100), according to Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSP). The methodological framework integrated the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and the Hadley Centre Global Earth Model - Global Coupled configuration 3.1 (HadGEM3-GC31-LL) was used for future climate analysis. The beekeeping suitability of the region was determined based on eleven criteria: four climatic, three topographic, and four environmental. The results indicate that beekeeping suita...

The climatologically changes that involve the global heating, have produced in the last decades a great reduction of glacial areas on earth, and this is evidenced by the glacial back stripping The area of study is situated into a seismotectonic zone where an intercordilleran segment has a Cordillera Blanca’s glaciers, that produces a lot of ice2 s falls, moraines landslides and great rocks. These materials fall in to glacial lakes and produce a violent damage. Huaraz city is in the Quilcay2 s alluvial fan, and consists of the fluvial-alluvial sediments Historically in Huaraz have been reported events like landslides that evidence the risk factor and increase the vulnerability of the zone due to deglatiation and lacustrine phenomena’s of Palcarraju mountain and Palcacocha lake. For the mitigation of the risk we are showing some instructions that must be diffused to the most of the peo...

Climate change will cause alterations in the hydrological cycle, a topic of great relevance to the scientific community due to its impacts on water resources. Investigating changes in hydrological characteristics at the watershed level in the context of climate change is fundamental for developing mitigation and adaptation strategies against extreme hydrological events. This study aimed to analyze the impacts of climate change on flow and sediment production in the Puyango-Tumbes watershed. Projected climate data from CMIP6 were used, corrected through a bias adjustment process to minimize discrepancies between model data and historical observations, ensuring a more accurate representation of climate behavior. The analysis combined two representative climate change scenarios (SSP2-4.5 and SSP5-8.5) with two land use and land cover (LULC) scenarios: (a) an optimistic scenario with reduced...

The spatial patterns of deforestation are usually non-randomly distributed across the landscape. While anthropogenically driven processes are often addressed in land-use regulation policies and deforestation research, less attention is given to the environmental factors that influence tropical deforestation. This study investigates to what extent climate conditions (temperature and precipitation) and biophysical landscape characteristics (elevation, slope, soil type, forest type, and distance to rivers) facilitate or mitigate deforestation processes in Peru's tropical Andes. A Random Forest regression model was constructed for the entire Peruvian tropical Andes, and separate models were developed for some of the known direct deforestation drivers in the region (coca production, gold mining, and land-use by indigenous and non-indigenous communities). Soil type and precipitation were ident...

Climate change represents a major threat to humanity and it is a matter of concern for the scientific community, society and politicians. The lack of contextual knowledge on risk perception generates a gap between developed and developing countries, being the last ones the most vulnerable to its effects. All this leads us to propose a review study on risk perception, psychological distance and risk communication in the face of climate change, contextualised in Peru. Efforts made by different public institutions and non-governmental organizations are intended for proposing solid programs in the face of climate change. In this context, the support of government policies contextualized in the Peruvian reality is fundamental to put a brake on the increase in temperature and the increase in greenhouse gas emissions. Finally, the paper concludes by indicating the need for interdisciplinary stu...

Latin America suffers from a major problem of loss of Amazonian Forest cover, thus making Peru one of the ten most diverse countries on the planet where most of our biological diversity is found in forests and these provide us with various ecosystem services and play a very important in nature. To calculate forest loss, the database of the "Geoforests" platform of the PNCBMCC (National Forest Conservation Program for Climate Change Mitigation) of the Ministry of the Environment was obtained, where Landsat-TM, Landsat- ETM+ and Landsat-OLI during the periods 2001-2020. Based on the evidence, it is concluded that the Peruvian Amazon Forest, over the years, has increased hectares of loss and fragmentation of dangerous forests, predicting that by 2030 there will be almost 4 million hectares lost according to the average of annual growth, being the main causes of agriculture, illegal mining a...

Currently, small- and medium-sized enterprises face order fulfillment issues, thus generating reduced service levels. In addition, these companies are usually not aware of the importance of continuous improvement tools or of training staff as a mitigation strategy for this situation. Within this framework, the authors performed a literature review to compile production models through which downtimes could be reduced. The production model designed therefrom comprises Lean Manufacturing and work study tools within a Change Management approach. This design focuses on model implementation by small companies without requiring large investment, cutting-edge technology, or qualified personnel. Finally, an application case study was conducted in a small textile manufacturing company located at the Gamarra Fashion Center in Lima, Peru. The results that were reported revealed that late order fulfi...

Land use and land cover (LULC) changes in the Piura River Basin, Peru, were analyzed from 2001 to 2022 using global MODIS and ESA-CCI datasets harmonized into six major land cover classes (Forest, Non-Forest Vegetation, Cropland, Bare Soil, Water and Urban) for comparative analysis. Pearson correlation analyses with hydroclimatic variables, including precipitation (PP), maximum (Tx) and minimum (Tn) temperatures, and El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) indices (Eastern Pacific, Central Pacific, and Coastal El Niño), complemented the intensity analysis to explore environmental drivers. The analyses focused on the lower-middle and upper basin regions during wet (December-May) and dry (June-November) seasons. MODIS detected more dynamic LULC transitions, with 32.8% of pixels showing changes, compared to 6.8% detected by the ESA-CCI product. These differences reflect the distinct sensitivi...

Worldwide, coastal wetlands are currently threatened by human activities such as agriculture, infrastructure development, resource exploitation, and urban sprawl. Pressures on these ecosystems disturb their morphology, hydrology, and biogeochemical cycles, thus resulting in the degradation of ecosystem services quality. However, little has been done to understand the coastal wetland response to identify the most efficient conservation and mitigation strategy. Along the Peruvian coast, wetlands present a diversity of landscapes and features. Even though threats and pressures would be similar, the ecosystem response in each environment may be different. In this context, this study describes a methodology to assess the impacts of human activities on ecosystem services based on the understanding of geomorphic features and current state of the Eten coastal wetland, located in northern Peru. T...

Adjustments in Brazilian livestock are necessary to minimize greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, since the largest source of methane comes from ruminants’ enteric fermentation, and of carbon from deforestation. Low-carbon agriculture technologies (LCAT) contribute to mitigating these emissions and this study evaluates the role of these technologies on ruminant forage production in Caatinga. A Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, and Threats analysis was used to elucidate the main features, followed by an Analytic Hierarchical Process, ranking the LCAT, and a risk analysis. Integrated Crop-Livestock-Forest System (ICLFS) is the most recommended technology, followed by Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) and Recovery of Degraded Areas with Pastures (RDA-P). The results can aid in the choice of the LCAT to be implemented by the smallholder in Caatinga, demonstrating the need to strengthen rural t...

Argumentation is a process in which reasons and justifications are produced to support a point of view. It has been widely studied due to its relationship with cognitive change and its significance in education at all levels. The present research aimed to explore three cases of university students engaged in debates across three distinct contexts (persuasion, consensus, and free debate) and their influence on the development of dialogue. The study analyzed argumentation and socio-cognitive integration, defined as the ability of students to incorporate information contributed during the debate. The findings align with previous studies but emphasize the importance of examining individual student characteristics in achieving effective socio-cognitive integration and dialogue development. Furthermore, potential theoretical and methodological implications are discussed.
