The recent suspension of U.S. government support for various health and development programs in Latin America highlights the risks of dependence on foreign cooperation. This decision compromises Peru's progress in public health, particularly in strategic areas such as HIV prevention, tuberculosis control, and the elimination of communicable diseases. Despite the historical dependence on international cooperation, USAID reports have highlighted the potential for self-sustainability of the programs implemented in Peru. However, the suspension of foreign support significantly impacts on the development of activities that favor health care coverage, continuity of services, and research capacity in public health. These effects could be sustained in the long term, with consequences that are difficult to reverse if compensation measures or national strengthening strategies are not adopted.

Plagiarism is a serious, yet widespread type of research misconduct, and is often neglected in developing countries. Despite its far-reaching implications, plagiarism is poorly acknowledged and discussed in the academic setting, and insufficient evidence exists in Latin America and developing countries to inform the development of preventive strategies. In this context, we present a longitudinal case study of seven instances of plagiarism and cheating arising in four consecutive classes (2011–2014) of an Epidemiology Masters’ program in Lima, Peru, and describe the implementation and outcomes of a multifaceted, “zero-tolerance” policy aimed at introducing research integrity. Two cases involved cheating in graded assignments, and five cases correspond to plagiarism in the thesis protocol. Cases revealed poor awareness and high tolerance to plagiarism, poor academic performance, an...

A quasi-experimental study was carried out with the objective of determining the effect of a neuropsychological intervention program on academic skills in reading, writing and mathematics in a group of first grade girls and boys of primary school at the Cadena Las Playas educational institution. municipality of Apartadó, Antioquia, Colombia, aged between 5 and 6 years, belonging to a low socioeconomic condition. Two groups were formed, the experimental and the control, each with 19 students. Measurement tests in reading, writing and arithmetic were applied to each participant. Subsequently, a neuropsychological intervention program was applied to the experimental group for seven months, consisting of group training using the NeuronUP kids program. At the end, measurements were applied again in the academic skills of both groups.   At the pretest level, no significant differences were f...

Introduction: There is a high prevalence of anemia in Peruvian children. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of nutritional talks at a health center in Chiclayo in reducing and preventing anemia in children from 6 to 36 months of age. Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study. We studied 78 children cared for in a primary health care center. Information from growth evaluations was extracted from a database generated by the center. We recorded the hemoglobin level (close to the date of the intervention and in subsequent controls ≥1 month later), we also collected information from the participants and care. Results: 41 children (52.57%) participated in the nutritional talk, no significant differences being observed with the group that did not participate. We observed a higher frequency of anemia in the group that did not participate in the nutritional talk (23.03%) with respect to the o...

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an additional slow-evolving pandemic that precedes the COVID-19 pandemic and will continue when it ends. However, in countries such as Peru where there is high consumption and inadequate prescription of antibiotics, a more challenging future scenario can be expected. Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs (ASP) are multidisciplinary teams of professionals that aim to contain the emergence of multidrug-resistant organisms through strategies such as audit of antibiotic prescription or creating antibiotic treatment guidelines based on local AMR rates. The difficulty in the timely diagnosis of co-infections or superinfections in the clinical course of COVID-19 leads to inappropriate use of antibiotics, forcing ASP to adapt their strategies in this changing scenario. In Latin America, ASP not only has to promote behavior change in antibiotic prescribers but also ...

This study aimed to analyze the differences in condom use with respect to the level of information about HIV, and the motivation and behavioral skills to use condoms in males deprived of freedom from three age strata. A total of 1,104 males belonging to long-term pretrial detention facilities for adolescents (comunidades de diagnóstico) and a social rehabilitation center in Mexico City were evaluated. They were divided into three groups using as criteria the distribution assigned by age quartiles, as well as the comparison between those who used and those who did not use a condom in their last sexual intercourse. A 3x2 factorial analysis was carried out and differences were found regarding the level of information and behavioral skills in relation to the age groups and condom use; however, there were no significant differences in the motivation. The results are discussed in terms of the...

The huge amount of work accidents in Peru has not produced the implementation of policies aimed at reducing occupational accidents rates. Not only that, there is a certain passivity with informal business and persons who break the law, even when it creates risks to workers’ lives. Criminal Law is the best example, because criminal rules do not apply in fact. We have a symbolic norm; that means a situation that counteracts the preventive effect of Criminal Law. In other words, the legislator has weakened non-criminal instances excluding punishment even for the most serious behaviors in which workers’ lives are endangered. In this context, compliance programs play a big role in labor risk prevention and, therefore, in the reduction of criminal rates.

The Internet of Things (IoT) connects schemes, programs, data management, and operations, and as they continuously assist in the corporation, they may be a fresh entryway for cyber-attacks. Presently, illegal downloading and virus attacks pose significant threats to IoT security. These risks may acquire confidential material, causing reputational and financial harm. In this paper hybrid optimization mechanism and deep learning,a frame is used to detect the attack prevention in IoT. To develop a cybersecurity warning system in a huge data set, the cybersecurity warning systems index system is first constructed, then the index factors are picked and measured, and finally, the situation evaluation is done.Numerous bio-inspired techniques were used to enhance the productivity of an IDS by lowering the data dimensionality and deleting unnecessary and noisy input. The Grey Wolf Optimization al...
