The subjects of religion and culture have been fundamental for the knowledge of Peru, even before its existence as a nation in the international context. These are not issues that put some theoretical frameworks or certain theories of interpretation of reality into “intellectual fashion”; socio-cultural and religious phenomena preceded them. It is in this long duration that we have to register the emergence of studies on religion and culture in the Andean populations. Retaking this long journey will allow us to locate the analytical and interpretive efforts, as well as the ethnological collections that took place for more than five hundred years, and in this way enrich our knowledge of the studied phenomena in order to place them within the interpretive scheme that allows locating to Peru as a nation.

The article begins with an exploration of sociology´s historical development, always in close connection with the sister discipline of anthropology, rst in the proto sociologists and protoanthropologists, thereafter in the founding fathers, Émile Durkheim, Max Weber and Karl Marx, who are at the same time sociologists and anthropologists. Next comes another scientic triangle: the romantics or neokantians, the scientic functionalists and the Marxists, who curiously coincide in sociology and anthropology as well. Before reaching the conclusion, that suggests that the separation of sociology and anthropology is a separation with an extremely frail foundation, we make two excursions: to an invention that was made at the same time in sociology and anthropology, in the rst discipline named “ethnomethodology”, and in the second “cognitive anthropology”, and the shortlived fashion of p...

Due to its critical, demystifying and emancipating nature, the chair of sociological thinking contributes to the analysis of the relational nature of social processes, as well as the demands that the performance of its formative function requires. Hence, teaching becomes relevant, since it provides students with theoretical concepts, instruments and techniques so that they can approach reality with professional competence. In that sense, in the first class, I always wanted to know the students not only as a person, but mainly about their sociological thinking and abilities to carry out research and intervention as social managers. Students were asked a set of questions for their discussion in the classroom: what did they understand by sociology as a scientific discipline? What theoretical and methodological approaches had most influenced your professional training? among other questions....

The article describes the main characteristics of Neoliberalism and its effects on Social Sciences, with references to the key themes of that ideology. It also describes the way it became «common sense» in economic thinking and its effects on State management, public policies and precarious basic education and health services, among others. Thus, for almost three decades, Neoliberalism isolated Social Sciences, especially Sociology, because of a supposed «efficient pragmatism», revealing the individualism, the minimization of the State and the absolute law of the market in the reproduction of society. However, three decades later, and especially in 2020, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, all the fallacies of «Neoliberal Thought» have been demonstrated, creating new conditions for a return of Social Sciences, with the capacity to understand and to analyze the new social proces...

This paper is about the anthropology and sociology of law as an interdisciplinary education. The author starts pointing what we do understand by interdisciplinary: two or more integrated disciplines that co-work to achieve the same goal. He points that this work is enlightening for the involved disciplines. Furthermore, he indicates the differences of this concept with the multidisciplinary and the transdisciplinary. Further on, he mentions that the interdisciplinary education has the learning and teaching as a key aspects in order to accomplish a deeper understanding. He specifies that we found the interdisciplinary education in three levels: research work, educational work and professional career; however, he elaborates the first two only. Then, he points the experience of the interdisciplinary education as a legal anthropology and as a legal sociology. First, from the legal anthropolo...

Abstract: This article aims to conduct a critical review of the concept of generations from a sociological perspective to elucidate its analytical potential. To this end, firstly, the subject is introduced, and the ambiguities inherent in the concept, particularly regarding its temporal and spatial extension, are identified. Secondly, an exploration is proposed into the various interpretations of its use, starting with the studies of Karl Mannheim and subsequently delving into contemporary receptions utilizing theoretical tools derived from Pierre Bourdieu. From this exploration, the utility of understanding generations within specific social spaces is derived. Hence, thirdly, its intersection with notions of field (from Bourdieu himself) and traditions (from Raymond Williams) is addressed, gauging its application in the peculiarities of the political field and narratives within traditio...

A bibliographic review was made over the published literature on the relationship between social sciences, specifically sociology and medicine. For this, various publications were analyzed and the most relevant aspects were summarized. The objective was to reflect on the emergence of the sociology of health as a discipline, and its relationship with medicine, given that despite the fact that the disease has always been linked to sociocultural aspects, it was not until the middle of the last century that medicine recognizes the importance of sociology in explaining the health-disease process. Even so, sociologists were rarely part of a multidisciplinary team with medical professionals. Currently, sociologists participate with medical professionals in research, to explain health problems that affect people.

In a child's life, there are numerous influences that are projected on him, both in his primary and secondary socialization. Indeed, the roles and functions that he gradually acquires in the family and, later, in school and in the neighborhood, play a fundamental role in the structuring of his subjectivity and his intersubjectivity in relation to his environment. It is a reciprocal relationship between him and his context, where he must strengthen his security for the constitution of the self, while he will contribute with his creativity and commitment to the social space where he immerses himself with full intention, focusing on his identification and constant integration. Childhood is crossed by a performativity that will repeat a dichotomous process around the social differentiation of the sexes that both the boy and the girl will internalize under the label of normality, becoming per...

The article addresses the problem of the community in the sociological studies of Aníbal Quijano elaborated between 1966 and 1970. These writings were produced during his stay in Chile as a researcher of CEPAL. The theoretical approach that guides these investigations is the “dependentist historical structuralism” and, in part, Marx’s historical materialism and theory of capitalism. Its object of study is urbanization and marginality in Latin American societies. The methodology chosen to investigate the problem of the community in this section of the author’s work is the “problematic approach.” The article proposes three hypotheses. The first is that in these works the community intertwines traditional and modern culture, giving rise to a sui generis configuration. The second is that from these investigations emerges a conception of the community that presents two dimensions...

The essay aims to show that the “first Quijano” of the 1960s adopted an attitude of suspicion in the face of the ideological bias of the North American social sciences, that were implemented in the universities of the “Third World” countries, in the context of the institutionalization of sociology, as a scientific discipline that carries the promise of social change. This attitude of suspicion was translated into the use of the Marxian notion of “ideology” as a tool for criticizing the colonial / imperialist orientation of the social sciences. Which suggests and reveals a certain “thematic unity” linked to a type of sociology that we call the “sociology of suspicion”. This sociology has a preparatory character and was developed between 1962 and 1965. However, it was prolonged and reappeared in other contexts, as it was part of a broader theoretical project of “epist...

The history of Peruvian Sociology (1896-1930), is part of a major research project about a theoretical reconstruction of both evolution and development in Peruvian sociology. The investigation covers the pre-sociological period also known as the sociological background phase of ideas and theories, the development of the university professor or the general sociology teaching phase, the so-called National Sociology phase named later as Peruvian Sociology, and finally the phase of scientific and professional development of sociology. This last period is a greater challenge to investigate making an evaluative and critical stocktaking of its institutional dynamics.

The 21st century began with very complex problems that have been producing a great ecological, social and economic impact: natural catastrophes, social inequalities, wars and migrations of scale. All this in a context of globalization with exclusion and segregation of an increasingly precarious and vulnerable population. This situation produced by the establishment of an extractive and predatory model that has been installed in the Latin American region, which constantly threatens the possibility of sustainability as a way of life. The main objective of this article is to reflect on the fundamentals of the current crisis and its link with the region's development model and the risks to sustainability. For this, and hermeneutical analysis is proposed, the theoretical approach of decolonial sociology is used, which allows us to situate ourselves in our Latin American.

This study focuses on the knowledge of «scientific achievement» in Colombian sociology. There are two objectives: to analyze scientific achievement as a particular matter; and examine as an expression of the state of discipline. It seeks to complement the «states of sociology» global approaches, generally tending to observe the evolution of research topics and institutional, pedagogical and methodological developments in the field of sociologists. «Scientific realization» encompasses academic «production» and «productivity», but as a concept it is part of a perspective that locates them in another theory, which enables an alternative interpretation of these same phenomena. The study is based on a sample design whose unit of analysis is the sociologist from the academic plants of the universities with sociology programs. Its source is the resumes that researchers provide to the ...
