Counterclockwise tectonic rotations in the northern central Andes and clockwise rotations in the southern Central Andes have been systematically reported (see Roperch et al. 2006 and Arriagada et al., 2006 for a recent summary) and interpreted to be mostly driven by oroclinal bending associated with shortening in the Eastern Cordillera and in the subandean belt. Large counterclockwise rotations have been found in the Eastern Cordillera of Southern Peru (Gilder et al. 2003). While these rotations were initially attributed to a Cretaceous event of deformation, Gilder et al. (2003) interpreted these rotations to be coeval with the rotations found along the forearc (Roperch et al., 2006). Rotations along the forearc from Arequipa to Caravelli are larger than 40° and occurred mainly during the late Eocene - Oligocene. However, the lack of data within the Peruvian Altiplano precludes a good d...

The rotator cuff injury is a significant cause of shoulder pain and dysfunction. Treating massive and irreparable rotator cuff tears remains a major challenge for orthopedists due to their complexity and severity. One promising alternative for managing these cases is the use of subacromial balloons. In this study, we present the case of a 67-year-old woman diagnosed with a massive and irreparable rotator cuff tear in her right shoulder (Grade III Patte, Grade IV Goutallier, and Grade II Hamada), without glenohumeral arthritis, intact biceps tenosynovitis, and subscapularis. The preoperative Constant score was 40 points. The patient underwent partial arthroscopic repair of the supraspinatus and infraspinatus tendons, along with a suprapectoral biceps tenodesis and subacromial balloon placement. Postoperative rehabilitation led to improved range of motion, reduced pain, and increased stren...

Logistics is an area that determines, in many cases, the prosperity of a company. Regardless of its size, the search for new tools, procedures and management techniques has increased in recent years. In the mining sector, the 49,9% of companies do not have an inventory control mechanism; therefore, a low turnover of this. This can be for three reasons: inefficient purchasing policy, inadequate demand planning, and inadequate storage method. For this reason, a model conformed by the following tools was developed: ABC classification, JIT, MRP, and inventory management. Likewise, the Arena Software was used in an SMEs that imported drill bits for the mining industry to validate the described model. The results were a 62% improvement over the purchasing policy, a 73% decrease in cycle time, and only the use of one worker for theimport process, allowing the other worker to be in another area....

Nonlinear gravity-capillary waves generated by the passage of a pressure distribution over a sheared channel with constant vorticity are investigated. The problem is modeled using the full Euler equations. The harmonic part of the velocity field is formulated in a canonical domain through the use of the conformal mapping, which flattens the fluid domain onto a strip. The Froude number is considered to be nearly-critical and the Bond number critical. The shear effect changes drastically the pattern of the generated waves for large times. Moreover, depending on the intensity of the vorticity, the wave solutions can become smoother with small amplitudes.

Oblique rotation of factors is usually performed in exploratory factor analysis in order to achieve the best and simplest interpretation of the solution based on the prescribed number of factors. Currently available algorithms, however, do not take into account the fluctuation of the correlations on which the factor solution is based. If such correlations’ stability is low, the rotated solution obtained in a specific sample may substantially differ from the rotated solutions obtained in different samples from the same population. The present paper proposes a modified version of the Promin rotation designed to achieve simple and stable rotated solutions through the samples. The usefulness of Robust Promin is illustrated by using an empirical example based on a real dataset. The procedure proposed in this paper has been implemented in the FACTOR factor analysis program version 10.9.

This article presents the results of a qualitative research of ethnographic design, carried out with eight (8) students of fifth grade of the Fernando Belaúnde Terry secondary school of Ate, the objective of the investigation was to know the development of the geometric thought of rotations in the students, according to the Van Hiele model. The data collection was done through a follow up to the development of the activities programmed in the rotation-learning module designed according to the Van Hiele model, the formative test of open answers and the mixed interview. The results show that students mostly exhibited characteristics of level 2 (analysis) with a good path towards the acquisition of characteristics of level 3 (classification).

In this work we investigate rotational waves resonantly excited by a submerged obstacle in a sheared shallow water channel with constant vorticity. In the weakly nonlinear, weakly dispersive regime, the problem is formulated in the forced Korteweg-de Vries framework. We compute the solution of the initial value problem for this equation numerically using a Fourier pseudospectral method with integrating factor. The water surface is initially taken at rest, and once the current is turned on, waves are immediately generated in the free surface. We identify the main effects of sheared current in the generated waves such as rotational solitary waves propagating upstream and sharp crested waves being generated.

The aim of this study was to compare the cardiac parameters of chest X-rays with aligned dorsoventral view with those of the rotated dorsoventral view of the same patient to determine the acceptable degree of rotation for these views. Fifty-three rotated dorsoventral plates from 32 canine patients were used and the parameters compared of those plates with their respective control samples or aligned dorsoventral plates. To do this, the clockface analogy test and the cardio-thoracic ratio were used and complemented with their respective right side-lateral view, allowing obtaining the angle of rotation. The results of the rotated samples were assigned to a group of 0.1º to 6º of rotation and to another group of 6º to 12º of rotation. Each cardiac chamber was evaluated with its respective control plate by the McNemar test. The group from 0.1º to 6º rotation presented a probability valu...

The alteration of the vertical dimension can be caused by different factors, among which, we find partial loss of dental pieces, pathological wear of the occlusal surfaces that are caused by different etiologies, being one of the most common bruxism. This results in alterations in the stomatognathic system that causes aesthetic and functional sequelae. That is why the importance of theoretical and clinical knowledge of partial edentulism when the vertical dimension is altered, because as we know there are currently many biomaterials and techniques to rehabilitate a patient with these characteristics, however, all part of a correct diagnosis. Traditionally different methods have been used to establish the appropriate vertical dimension; however, there is not yet a single method capable of providing total accuracy. The objective of this work is to share the approach to a patient with alter...

Rotational atherectomy is a specific procedure for managing complex coronary artery lesions, especially when there is coronary artery calcification (CAC). This technique was widely used until the last decade of the 20th century; however, although it is rarely used, it currently plays an important role in patients who could be candidates for surgical revascularization but reject surgeries due to different pathologies—such as diffuse atheromatous disease requiring long stents, in-stent restenosis, calcified ostial lesions and chronic total occlusions. Rotational atherectomy is a method that uses a diamond-coated burr to reduce the volume of atherosclerotic plaques and calcification of vessels. This device breaks up plaque into microfragments, leading to an increase in lumen diameter. These fragments, which have a tiny diameter, pass predominantly into the capillary circulation and are th...

Recent investigations have demonstrated that it is possible to incorporate different natural fibers in the rotational molding process. In this perspective, the main purpose of this work is to study the influence of rotational molding parameters on the sintering process of composite materials made of recycled high density polyethylene and wood particles. To achieve this, an experimental procedure of three molding stages was elaborated to make wood-plastic composite materials. At each stage, it was studied the effect of a certain molding parameter on mechanical properties, while the other parameters remain constant during the molding process. The composite materials made during each stage were tensile tested to identify which of them have suitable mechanical properties and to find the most convenient molding parameters for making them. Using a stereoscope, pictures of composite materials' ...

We present method computes the tangent and curvature vector of the intersection curve of two surface, parametric/implicit or implicit/implicit, in Lorentz-Minkowski space E3, by applying a Euler-Rodrigues rotation to a vector projected onto the tangent space. The axis of rotation is the normal vector of the surface (the surfaces can be timelike, spacelike or lightlike), therefore three types of rotations, since the normal vectors can be: spacelike, lightlike, or timelike.
