Introduction. Hip fractures are a group of frequent pathologies in frail older adults, with a negative impact on functionality. Objective. To determine the clinical, functional, mental, and social characteristics based on the comprehensive geriatric assessment. Methods. 445 patients were evaluated, comorbidity was measured with the Charlson index, baseline functional state with the Barthel index and the Lawton and Brody scale, mental state with the Pfeiffer questionnaire, delirium using the Confusion Assessment Method and social assessment with the Gijón Socio-Family Scale. This article provides evidence on the growing interest of Latin American cinema in hip hop. The cinematographic narration of these films portrays the lives of young people from popular classes who face situations marked by violence and deep social inequalities, through the practice of rap, break dance, graffiti and DJing, components of this culture. The article provides a recount of films and documentaries, made in eight Latin American countries, in the last decade. OBJECTIVES: To review the main features of hip replacements, both partial and total, performed at the Hospital Nacional Guillermo Almenara, Lima-Peru, between 1995-1997. METHODS: a descriptive, cross-sectional, observational and partially prospective review of 232 clinical records from 325 surgical hip replacements. RESULTS: Patients with ages between 59 and 70 years old (60% females), most of them were homeworkers and come from Lima. Coxofemoral artrosis was the commonest etiology conducing to a total arthroplasty, and femoral head fracture the cause of partial arthroplasty. The most frequent short term complication was surgical wound infection, being S. epidermidis the main pathogenic microorganism isolated, and the most frequent long-term complication was dislocation of the implant. Objective. To determine whether the use of antihypertensives is associated with reduced risk of nontraumatic hip fracture in patients at Hospital Belén de Trujillo, 2017-2022. Methods. A retrospective, analytical, cross-sectional study was conducted. According to the selection criteria, 160 adult patients were included and divided into 2 groups: with or without nontraumatic hip fracture; then, the prevalence ratio and the chi-square statistical test were applied. Results. Mean age and frequency of osteoporosis were significantly higher in the group of patients with hip fracture (p < 0.05). The consumption of thiazide antihypertensives was a protective factor for non-traumatic hip fracture, with a prevalence ratio of 0.29, which was significant (p < 0.05). Innovative hip implants should be designed in accordance with biomechanical models of the proximal femur and take into account both body weight and muscle action in order to improve usability and biomimetic performance. This article proposes a finite element analysis of the proximal femur using both cortical and trabecular regions and employing transverse isotropic properties with standardized loads taken from active and young patients. Maximum principal stresses are plotted to show the mechanical behavior of the femur and grouped to evaluate stress shielding. Aim: To assess the association between high waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) levels and insulin resistance (IR) or hyperinsulinemia after oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) in a sample of normal-weight women. Methods: We conducted an analytical cross-sectional study in euthyroid non-diabetic women, who attended the outpatient service of a private clinic in Lima-Peru from 2012 to 2016. Participants were divided in two groups according to the presence or absence of high WHR levels, IR or hyperinsulinemia after OGTT. We considered WHR values > 0.85 as high levels. IR was defined as a Homeostasis Model Assessment (HOMA-IR) value > 2.39 and hyperinsulinemia after OGTT as a serum insulin value ≥ 80μU/mL after 120 min of 75-g glucose intake. Introduction: Hip fracture in the elderly is the most common cause of hospitalization in the trauma department, causing repercussion in several clinical areas, affecting its independence. Objective: To determine the prognostic factors of poor evolution in the study population. Methods: Ambispective,correlational and non-experimental study was designed. The population consisted of all patients over 65 years of age who underwent surgery for hip fracture between January 2014 and July 2015 at the Central Hospital of the Pruvian Air Force (F.A.P). A predominance was found in the female sex (54.3%) and in patients over 80 years old (45%). Most of these events occurred at home (81.4%). Intertrochanteric fractures were the most frequent (60%), especially on the right side (51.4%), osteosynthesis was the most used therapeutic option (62.1%). The hip femoral stem is vital in ensuring patient support and mobility, and research into the femoral stem is critical for improving the durability and strength of orthopedic prostheses. Using the finite element method, this paper evaluates a femoral stem’s static, transient, and fatigue behaviors using three different materials: Ti-6Al-4V, CoCr alloy, and AISI 316L. ANSYS Mechanical software was used to perform the static analysis, evaluate deformations and stresses, and perform the transient analysis to simulate dynamic loading conditions. In addi-tion, a fatigue analysis was conducted to determine the resistance to repetitive load cycles.
