In 500 patients with 168 EEGs were selected ; because they had major headache. In 40 they had with certain organic disease , 33 patients with epilepsy, and the remaining 95 with headache no demonstrable organic cause . This last group is mainly analyzed , and subdivided into banal headache 44 cases , atypical 34 cases migraine and typical migraine 17 cases , the percentage of abnormality in EEG based on each group is as follows : a) banal headache 36.3 % b ) atypical migraine 58.8 % c) 58.8 % The typical migraine overall percentage of electroencephalographic abnormality based on the total group is 48.4 % against 51.6 % in normal EEGs . The major abnormality is characterized by hipervoltaje , theta waves and synchronous e hypersynchronous paroxysmal slow , and asymmetry of the occipital alpha activity. Asynchrony is also moderate . It was also found asymmetry of the anterior frontal beta ...

Background Migraine, a common chronic-intermittent disorder of idiopathic origin characterized by severe debilitating headaches and autonomic nervous system dysfunction, and placental abruption, the premature separation of the placenta, share many common pathophysiological characteristics. Moreover, endothelial dysfunction, platelet activation, hypercoagulation, and inflammation are common to both disorders. We assessed risk of placental abruption in relation to maternal history of migraine before and during pregnancy in Peruvian women. Methods Cases were 375 women with pregnancies complicated by placental abruption, and controls were 368 women without an abruption. During in-person interviews conducted following delivery, women were asked if they had physician-diagnosed migraine, and they were asked questions that allowed headaches and migraine to be classified according to criteria est...

Objectives: To describe the safety of the use of acetaminophen in case of headache during pregnancy. Material and methods: It is a systematic review of research works, where the PRISMA recommendation was followed by searching for scientific articles published in: Science Direct, Elsevier, Ebsco, Pubmed, Redalyc, Scielo, Google academic, Latindex, Lilacs and Alicia, during the period 2018 to 2022. Results: From an initial of 447742 studies corresponding to the bibliographic search, without applying filters, the PRISMA format was used according to its recommendation, leaving a total of six scientific articles, of which five articles recommend the use of acetaminophen (paracetamol) in case of headache in pregnant women, they also...

Introduction: Intracerebral aneurysms are incidental findings in imaging studies performed for other diagnoses. Case Report: 35-year-old female patient, who presented syncope after severe headache without yielding to conventional treatment with NSAIDs; with a history of long-standing headache and sporadic treatment. On examination: neurological: awake, facial asymmetry, dysarthria, decreased muscle strength in both lower limbs, no meningeal signs; the brain tomographic report without contrast indicated: expansive brain lesions of etiology to be determined at both sides of the diencephalon: rule out glioma vs aneurysms; cerebral Angiotac with contrast, reflects bilateral intracranial internal carotid and middle cerebral (mirror) aneurysms. Subsequently the patient was evaluated by the neurosurgeon on duty, who indicated to refer to a center of higher complexity, for not having the necessa...

Introduction: headaches are a public health problem and the role of cervical biomechanics in their condition has been postulated. Objective: it was to evaluate the association between the presence of headache with cervical mobility and the alteration of the suboccipital space C0-C1. Material and methods: the design was case-control; the population was adults between 18 and 59 years old who worked in the administrative field. The cases were made up of workers with headache, controls workers without this symptomatology. Cervical mobility measured with the Cervical Range of Motion Instrument CROM3 and the measurement of the C0-C1 space by lateral teleradiography were evaluated. Results: 55 controls and 28 cases participated. A greater presence of cervical pain was found in the cases (p < 0.001); the cases presented a 64.3% of important or very severe impact of disability, an OR of 4.76 was ...

BACKGROUND: Suicide is a leading cause of maternal death globally, and suicide prevalence rates have been shown to be increased in those with migraine. No previous study has examined the association between migraine and suicidal ideation during pregnancy. OBJECTIVE: To examine the association between migraine and suicidal ideation among a cohort of pregnant women. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 3372 pregnant women attending prenatal care clinics in Lima, Peru. Suicidal ideation and depression were assessed using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) scale during early pregnancy. Migraine classification (including migraine and probable migraine) was based on International Classification of Headache Disorders-III beta criteria. Multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed to estimate odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (95%CI). RESULTS: Sui...

Migraine is the most frequently reported type of headache. It is characterized as a chronic and episodic neurological disorder associated with vomiting, photophobia, and sonophobia. The occurrence of a migraine headache episode is usually associated with an aura, which is clearly perceived by patients. Migraine headache crises lead to almost total disability in affected patients, so this condition is recognized as a health problem requiring adequate diagnosis and therapy.

A 40-year-old man, with a history of migraine, experienced a left occipital headache, tinnitus and photopsias. He was treated with analgesics at the emergency room with partial relief during 3 consecutive visits during the week prior to admission. At admission, general physical exam was normal as was the neurological examination. A lumbar puncture (LP) was performed, showing no blood cells but 100 mononuclear cells with normal protein and glucose levels. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) microbiological and virologic tests and brain imaging studies were not contributory. The pain was controlled after a trigeminal nerve block. Five days after admission and with the status migrainosus resolved, a second LP was performed which was reported as normal with resolution of the pleocytosis. Recognition of transitory CSF pleocytosis in the context of an acute migraine episode could serve to avoid unnecess...

Background Arboviral diseases are one of the most common causes of acute febrile illness (AFI) and a significant health problem in South America. In Peru, laboratory etiologic identification of these infections occurs in less than 50% of cases, leading to underdiagnoses of important emerging arboviruses. Aim To assess the prevalence of the Dengue (DENV), Oropouche (OROV), Chikungunya (CHIKV), Mayaro (MAYV) and Zika (ZIKV) viruses in patients with acute febrile illness from Puerto Maldonado (Peru). Methodology Serum samples were obtained from patients with AFI during January 2016 to March 2016. A total of 139 specimens were analyzed for the presence of DENV, OROV, CHIKV, MAYV, and ZIKV using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Results CHIKV in 9.4% and OROV in 8.6% were the most prevalent arboviruses, followed by DENV and ZIKV, with a prevalence of 6.5% and 5%, respectively. Among all patien...
