Aedes aegypti is an important vector of tropical diseases like Dengue, Zika, Chikungunya, and Yellow Fever and affects mainly countries located in tropical and subtropical zones, including Peru. Synthetic insecticides are used to control this vector, but they also cause a residual effect on the environment, whereas the vector has developed resistance to these compounds, so there is a current need to search for new control alternatives, such as the use of abundant natural resources. Therefore, this work aimed to evaluate the biocidal activity of extracts and oils from Cymbopogum citratus, Rosmarinus officinalis, and Minthostachys mollis on adult Aedes aegypti, as well as to evaluate their quality parameters. Furthermore, the chemical profile of the three species was assessed by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The results showed that ...

Temephos and deltamethrin insecticides have been widely used to control Aedes aegypti in Bagua Grande district, Utcubamba, Amazonas, Peru. For this reason, the enzyme profile related to temephos and deltamethrin resistance in A. aegypti from Bagua Grande were evaluated. To determine the resistance status, bioassays were conducted with temephos using larvae and with deltamethrin using adults. Enzymes profile were evaluated by biochemical assays of αEST, βEST, GSTs, and remaining AChE in survived individuals to selective doses of both insecticides. Esterase patterns of larvae and adults were observed by native-PAGE. The population showed temephos susceptibility, with RR 50 = 3.06 and 83.95% mortality, and deltamethrin resistance with a mortality equal to 1.21%. Enzyme assays revealed highly altered levels of GST and AChE in larvae and altered levels of αEST and highly altered levels of ...

Bartonella bacilliformis is the etiologic agent of Carrion's disease, which if endemic to Peru. Studies on antimicrobial resistance genes from clinical isolates of this pathogen are scarce, and the molecular characteristics of these genes and their region resistance-associated are currently unknown. In this work we made the molecular characterization of the quinolone-resistance, and establish the region (QRDR) for the topoisomerase IV, which is encoded by the parC and parE genes, as well as develop an antimicrobial susceptibility test for B. bacilliformis. 65 Blood samples from La Libertad, Cusco, Ancash and Piura were processed on Blood Agar plates and incubated at 30 °C, 5% CO2. The antimicrobial susceptibility was determined, then the genomic DNA extracted, aforementioned genes amplified, their sequence determined and it analyzed using bioinformatics tools. Six positive cultures were...
