The aim of this study was to determine the type and frequency of parasites in gamitana gills (Colossoma macropomum) and to describe the associated histopathological lesions. Thirty specimens were taken from a fish farm in Iquitos, Peru. The left branchial arches were placed in Petri dishes with distilled water to observe the presence of parasites and the right arches were fixed with formalin 5% for histopathological studies. Besides, water quality of the pond was analyzed. Three types of ectoparasites were identified: monogeneans, members of the Family Dactylogyridae, Subfamilies Anacanthorinae and Ancyrocephalinae (100%, 30/30), ones protozoan, member of the Family Oodinidae, genus Piscinoodinium (36.7%, 11/30), and one arthropod, member of the Class Maxillopoda, Sub-class Copepoda (20%, 6/30). Among the histopathological lesions, the most common were inflammatory disorders: presence of...

Citrus, one of the most important fruit crops in the world and also they are sensitive to salt stress. The negative effects of stresses often lead to reductions in fruit yield and quality. To assess the effects of salinity on some growth traits, a greenhouse test was performed with the cultivars ‘Mihowase’, ‘Primosole’ and ‘W. Murcott’ as grafted on ‘Cleopatra’ and ‘Swingle citrumelo’ as rootstocks. The experiment was conducted at the Agrarian Experimental Station of National Institution for Agricultural Innovation in Donoso-Huaral, ubicated 90 km north of Lima. The plants were irrigated with water plus NaCl with an Electrical Conductivity of 0.5 or 4.5 dS/m as salt stress. The variables under evaluation were leave losses, fresh and dry weight of stem, leaves and roots as well as relative water content in the plants. The results showed that the rootstocks ‘Cleopatra...

The objectives of this study were to determine the pathogenicity of a strain of Yersinia ruckeri, from an outbreak of yersiniosis in Huaraz and to characterize histopathological lesions in various organs of rainbow trout fingerlings (Oncorhynchus mykiss). One hundred fingerlings with an average weight of 7.25 g were used, divided into 5 groups of 20 individuals (four experimental and one control), kept in 30 L ponds. Experimental groups were inoculated via i.m. with 0.1 ml of the bacterial strain in concentrations of 1x104/ml (G1), 4x104/ml (G2), 1x108/ml (G3) and 4x108/ml (G4), and the control group with PBS. Clinical signs, external and internal lesions, morbidity and mortality were recorded for 12 days post-inoculation. Samples of liver, intestine, spleen, kidney, muscle and gills were collected for histopathological analysis. All fish inoculated with Y. ruckeri showed signs and lesio...
