The aim of this study was to determine the presence of bacterial agents and to characterize the histopathological lesions in ornamental tetra bleeding heart (Hyphessobrycon erytrhostigma) fish from a commercial aquarium in the city of Iquitos, Peru. For the microbiological study 60 fish were used, samples were taken from spleen and kidney. Isolation was done on MacConkey agar, Trypticase Soy agar, Pseudomonas Aeromonas selective agar (GSP) and Cytophaga agar and the genus identification was done by Gram staining and biochemical tests. Another 60 fish were used for the histopathological study where the skin, eye, gills, stomach, intestine, liver, spleen, muscle, kidney and peritoneum tissues were analyzed. Seven bacterial genera were isolated: Pseudomonas, Aeromonas, Lactobacillus, Bacillus, Flavobacterium, Staphylocccus and Escherichia. Spores of Mixosporidium sp, hyperplasia and lamella...

The aim of this study was to detect parasitic agents and describe histopathological lesions in scallops (Argopecten purpuratus) from Ancash, Peru, during the summer and winter periods. In total, 360 mollusks were collected, in equal parts from aquaculture farms and wildlife, and in the summer and winter seasons (90 per group). The samples were preserved in Davidson's solution and analyzed by histology. The Chi-square test was used to determine possible associations between the variables. The histopathological findings in digestive glands and gills were similar, finding intracellular microcolonies of bacteria (ICM), hemocyte infiltration and tissue necrosis in all study groups. The prevalence of MCI was associated with the season of the year. Nephridial concretions occurred in all groups. The mantle was mostly affected by the presence of trematodes and hemocyte infiltration, especially in...

The aim of this study was to evaluate the presence of Perkinsus spp, a parasite that is mandatory to be report to the OIE, in samples of calico scallop (Argopecten purpuratus) from Ancash, Peru, using the PCR technique. In total, 56 samples were selected from those collected for a previous study in 2015. The selected samples were gill tissues with histological lesions suggestive of infection with the protozoan (hemocytic infiltration and necrosis). DNA was extracted from the samples and specific primers were used to detect Perkinsus spp by PCR. In addition, the detection limit of the technique was evaluated. All samples were negative. It was determined that 1.63 ng was the least detectable template DNA in one of the positive controls.

The aim of this study was the molecular characterization of segment 4 of the lake tilapia virus (TiLV) detected in farmed tilapia from the departments of Piura (Coast) and San Martín (Jungle) in an outbreak that occurred in 2017-2018. During this outbreak, 26 TiLV positive samples were obtained and five of them were selected. The diagnosis of these samples was carried out through a nested RT-PCR with primers directed to segment 3 and the PCR products were sequenced. For the amplification and analysis of segment 4 of the TiLV genome, an RT-PCR was performed where specific primers were designed. The sequencing was done by Macrogen (South Korea), by bidirectional sequencing using the automated Sanger method. The phylogenetic analysis was carried out from the aligned sequences by means of the Neighbor-Joining (NJ) method and the hypothetical protein characteristics of the gene was carried o...

The present research aimed at the biochemical characterization and molecular identification of pathogenic strains of Aeromonas sp, isolated from juvenile rainbow trout with clinical signs compatible with aeromoniasis in six fish farms in Junín (2), Pasco (2), Cajamarca (1) and Ancash (1), Peru. In total, 60 juvenile trout of 4-5 months were selected, with suggestive signs of outbreaks of aeromoniasis between 2017 and 2018. Euthanasia and necropsy were performed and the external and internal lesions present were recorded. Bacterial isolation of spleen and anterior kidney samples was carried out on TSA and GSP agar for 24-48 hours at 25 °C, bacterial colonies were characterized by biochemical tests and identified by conventional PCR using specific primers of the 16S rRNA gene (Aeromonas spp.), fstA (A. salmonicida) and gyrB (A. hydrophila), and sequencing was performed and confirmed by B...
