The aim of this study was to apply the criteria of the World Health Organization (WHO) in the histopathological classification of canine lymphoma on cases diagnosed from 1996 to 2012 at the veterinary pathology laboratory of San Marcos University, Lima, Peru. A total of 1778 reports of canine neoplasia were revised and 16 cases with histopathological diagnoses of canine lymphoma were studied. The following types of lymphoma were identified: diffuse large B cell lymphoma (7/16) (immunoblastic subtype [4/16], centroblastic subtype [2/16], rich subtype T cells [1/16]), mantle cell lymphoma (3/ 16), peripheral T-cell lymphoma not otherwise specified (2/16), precursor B/T lymphoblastic lymphoma (2/16), anaplastic large cell lymphoma (1/16) and mycosis fungoides (1/16).

The case of an 8-year-old albino male Central America agouti (Dasyprocta punctata) bred in captivity in San Martín, Peru, with the presentation of a well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma on the skin is reported. The appearance of a scabby skin lesion with macroscopic granulomatous characteristics was evidenced in the right temporal region recurrently after symptomatic treatment based on amoxicillin, dexamethasone, vitamin K and anti-myasis. The lesion rapidly evolved into an exophytic, expansive, haemorrhagic, and ulcerated infiltrative tumour mass. A cytological examination was performed, revealing a picture compatible with a malignant neoplasm of epithelial origin, and as a well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma at the histopathological level when performing the necropsy. This report describes the first case of a cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma, both its macroscopic and m...

The aim of this study was to determine the presence of ectoparasites in the gills of 73 adult tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) from seven ponds located in the Bello Horizonte Sector, Banda de Shilcayo district, San Martín, Peru. Sampling was carried out between January and February 2021. Measurements of size, temperature and pH of the ponds were recorded and the measurements of the ponds and fish density were obtained from fish farms records. The fish were taken to the laboratory for the dissection of the gills and the collection and fixation of the ectoparasites. Results showed that 35.6% (26/73) of fish were infested with one or more ectoparasites. The presence of monogeneans of the genus Chclidogyrus sp, family Dactylogyridae (28.8%) and the protozoan Trichodina sp (11.0%) (8/73) was determined.

Persistent Mullerian duct (PMDS) is a type of hereditary male pseudohermaphroditism observed in several dog breeds. Males have testes and XY chromosomes in addition to oviduct cranial vagina, uterus and bilateral Müllerian duct derivatives. In the present study is described the case of a 8-year Schnauzer dog, phenotypically male, with a history of anorexia, lethargy and tenesmus during the last two days. The pet had male genitalia but evident right lateral cryptorchidism; however, ultrasound examination revealed that the animal had remnants of the duct Muller (uterine body and horns) with an infectious process compatible with pyometra. The blood smear showed polymorphonuclear cells without corpuscles of Barr. A tumor mass was found cranial to the right uterine horn and corresponded to a testicular neoplasia of Sertoli cells. The left testicle was located in the scrotal sac and was hypop...

The aim of this study was to determine the evolution of infestation by monogeneans of the Dactylogiridae family in gills of tambaqui fry (Colossoma macropomum) raised in cages in an artificial and semi-natural aquatic environment. In total, 120 45-day-old fingerlings were evaluated with an average weight of 3.05 + 0.58 g, and an average total length of 5.23 + 0.51 cm. The fish were distributed in two floating cages (60 fingerlings per cage), the first located in an earthen pond in a semi-intensive breeding farm (artificial environment), and the second in a reservoir (semi-natural environment). Both groups received a similar diet. The qualitative degrees of infestation considered were mild, moderate and severe, according to the number of monogeneans parasites found in the gill sections evaluated by direct microscopy. The fingerlings were free of the parasitic infestation at the beginning ...

It is reported the case of an adult titi monkey (Plecturocebus oenante) parasitized with Prosthenorchis elegans, which died at the end of December 2019. The animal was in a wildlife rescue centre located on the banks of the Shilcayo Quebrada, the entrance gate of the national park "Cordillera Escalera", in San Martín, Peru. The animal, living in semi-captivity, did not show clinical signs, but it collapsed from a height of 5 m. At necropsy, abdominal exudate, perforation at the level of the small intestine, congestion of blood vessels and mesenteric lymphadenopathy, nodulations in the intestinal wall and a severe infection of white and round parasites were evidenced. The coproparasitological examination revealed characteristic eggs of the genus Prosthenorchis and the analysis of the adult parasite revealed the cranial hooks and characteristic structures of the species Prosthenorchis ele...
