The meaning of a type of theatrical representations on the preHispanic past –which have become quite popular all over Latin America in recent years– is explored in this paper as one of the main attractions for cultural tourism in the region. In Peru, these representations are known as “raymis” (the Quechua word for “festivals”). Son abundantes los estudios que han abordado el modo en el que los pobladores andinos experimentan su paisaje, habitado por una variedad de seres supraterrenales, resultado de la superposición de tradiciones diversas profundamente singularizadas en este contexto. Los cerros, los mojones y los santuarios naturales son algunos de los símbolos inscritos en un territorio que "tiene el poder" de decidir sobre el destino o "suerte" de los runas (Bastien, 1978; Harris, 1982; Allen, 1988; Valderrama y Escalante, 1988). Temeoroso del poder que puede ejercer a veces de forma caprichosa, siempre inapelable, los runas entablan una relación de reciprocidad con un territorio profundamente antropomorfizado.
