The aim of the present study was to determine the concordance between the indirect hemagglutination test (HAI) and the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) to detect anti-Toxoplasma gondii IgG in the diagnosis of porcine toxoplasmosis. Blood samples were collected from 407 pigs in the finishing phase, from pig farms located in the coastal strip of the department of Lima, Peru. The concordance of the diagnostic techniques and the corresponding seroprevalence were evaluated using the Kappa index and the McNemar test. The results indicated that the concordance between the HAI and ELISA tests through the Kappa index was 26%, considering the regular type, with values of 18.7 ± 3.8% by the HAI method and 14.7 ± 3.4% by the method of ELISA; while no significant differences were found by the McNemar test, which could suggest that both techniques are mutually replaceable. However, it is co...

According to the self-determination theory (SDT), leaders may adopt a controlling motivational controlling style (CMS) that forces employees to think, feel, or behave in a certain way to promote employee motivation. However, a scale has yet to be developed to measure CMS in the work environment. Usually, researchers use questionnaires adapted to different contexts or designed for another motivational style. However, whether these questionnaires capture the behaviors that represent CMS in the work context is little known. This research aimed to elaborate on and analyze the validity and reliability of the questionnaire on Controlling Motivational Style at Work (CMS-W). The study was based on a literature review of the types of controlling behaviors and a review of questionnaires used by SDT researchers who assessed the controlling motivational style in different contexts. A Peruvian sample...

In order to determine the relationship between uric acid serum levels, hemoglobin and hematocrit in highlander native fellows; 40 blood samples of apparently healthy native fellows from Cerro de Pasco (4380 meters over sea level) were analyzed; and as reference, 25 samples of native fellows from Lima (150 m) were also analyzed, of both sexes and 34 year-old average. The results stated that there is a significant correlation between the levels of uric acid, hemoglobin and hematocrit, demonstrating that in high altitude the higher values of uric acid found would not be due to any pathology, but rather it is a normal present condition with high levels of hemoglobin and hematocrit which iscommon in highlander native fellows.

Heart rnitochondrion ATPase activity, ADP:O ratio (P:O) and Respiratory Control (RCR) are compared between guinea pigs from high altitude (Morococha, 4540 m) (HA) and those from sea level (SL). The study comprised 60 male guinea pigs, 30 from each altitude level, with mean weight 400-450 grams. Heart mitochondria were obtained by differential centrifugation at 4°C. P:O ratio and RCR were measured polarographically by Tyler method, and ATP hydrolysis was done by Holton et al. Method. Mean values obtained for heart mitochondria at SL and HA, expressed in mmoles oxygen uptake/mg protein/hour, were, with Glutamate + Malate as subtrates, respectiveIy: P:O 2.90, RCR 6.02 and P:O 2.93, RCR 6.0; and, with Pyruvate + Malate as subtrates, respectively P:O 2.60, RCR 5.0 and P:O 2.70, RCR 4.80. ATPase activity was at SL and HA, respectively: 57.50 and 64.50 mmoles P /mg protein/hour. The results su...

Background: Malaria remains a serious health threat in the Amazonas Region of Peru and approximately 95% of the cases, mainly Plasmodium vivax, are found in native communities of The Rio Santiago District, Condorcanqui Province. In 2019, more than one thousand malaria cases were reported, with an unusual number of Plasmodium falciparum autochthonous cases. The present study aims to report this P. falciparum outbreak while describing the epidemiology of malaria and the risk factors associated in the native communities of Amazonas, Peru. Methods: The DIRESA-Amazonas in collaboration with the Condorcanqui Health Network and the Institute of Tropical Diseases of the UNTRM carried out a malaria Active Case Detection (ACD III) between January 31st and February 10th of 2020. A total of 2718 (47.4%) individuals from 21 native communities grouped in eight sanitary districts, were screened for mal...
