Wetlands are globally valuable ecosystems, mainly because they provide ecosystem services. In Peru, these ecosystems are governed by regulations that have been in place for the last 60 years. However, these have not been critically assessed to date. This paper compiles and analyzes the regulations related to Peruvian wetlands, evaluating the penalties they impose and their consistency with the legal systems protecting these areas. As a result, 44 documents were found, which include laws (13), decrees (11), resolutions (8), strategies (6), regulations (3), protocol (1), declaration (1) and the constitution. Eighty-five percent of these documents (37) do not set forth any sanctions; seven established penalties. Among the latter, we find penalties punishing pollution (4 documents), overexploitation of resources (3), poor management (3), accumulation of debris (1), the presence of drains (1)...

Fires have become a recurrent menace to wetlands of the central coast of Peru. However, the scientific knowledge of its impacts is scarce and does not allow adequate prevention measures. This study evaluated the current state of knowledge of fires recorded for wetland Los Pantanos de Villa Wildlife Refuge, as well as the species affected by these events. In the last ten years, four fires have impacted the Pantanos de Villa, affecting 3.51% of the surface of the wetland. The rushes were the plant community most impacted by the fires. We identified 34 species frequently affected by these disturbances, 12 belonging to flora and 22 to fauna, including vulnerable species as well as species new to science. These data show the need to strengthen scientific studies that quantify the effects of fire on the tropical coastal wetland. Finally, we discuss the problem of recurrent fires in this protec...

The wetlands of Callao have a variety of aquatic flora and fauna. These oases (Ventanilla Wetlands Regional Conservation Area (ACRHV), El Mirador Municipal Ecological Park and the Poza de la Arenilla-HCPA Coastal Wetland) are a great attraction for tourism and bird watching. However, there is only one wetland with protection status: Ventanilla Wetlands Regional Conservation Area (ACRHV). Although the other two wetlands are not protected, there are initiatives for their conservation. The importance of this article lies in identifying the bird species that these wetlands harbor, as well as having accurate information on the resident and migratory birdlife. The Jaccard similarity index was calculated to 1) determine the similarity in species composition between the three wetlands: ACRHV, El Mirador and HCPA, and 2) determine the similarity between the same seasonality categories for ACRHV +...
